The blurb…

Dylan is living his dream: fighting fires and saving lives. Bruised ribs call for a doctor visit and he meets Zach. The sexy ER surgeon tempts Dylan, with more than the casual one night stands he usually indulges in. However Zach’s life means long hours and pressure. He’s left wondering if he can cope.

Zach meets the gorgeous young Dylan, who is the answer to his silent prayers. The hardworking Firey is beautiful, smart and funny. What more could he ask for?

But these two shift-workers have no relationship experience. Will their lives get in the way of their new love or could their incredible passion conquer all?

So what did I think?

I read this last month and didn’t do my review then – shame because a bit of time has passed and the book had faded a bit in my memory – maybe that’s a sign that it was only so-so?

Anyway, I’ve read through my notes and they consist of mainly highlighting parts where I found inconsistency in the use of language. The book is set in the US based on the cars, restaurant address and cities mentioned but the language and slang is very Australian and I found this distracting – mum, arse, trackies, grog, mate…There were also some sentences that just didn’t make sense.

I also thought the plot was a little thin and that the men breaking up over one missed date was very shallow and intolerant. Mind you, the characters admitted this too….“I’m sorry I broke up with you over it, especially because I do weird and crazy shifts too. I was pretty stupid.” Yes, it was! There were also a couple of other things that I didn’t fully understand the significance of in the story (e.g. Dylan’s nightmares).

All in all, I think this story had potential but didn’t quite follow through. 3 stars because it contains a doctor and a fireman!
