Length: 200 Pages

Release Date: 27th April, 2015

Blurb: Corbin Ford, aka the Nightwatchman, named for the antique pocket watches he leaves behind at jobs, has been in the cat-burgling business for years. His father was. His grandfather was. His mother is still one of the most renowned thieves. Corbin likes his high-profile heists, priceless paintings from private collections, artifacts from museums, but his favorite? Jewels. Sparkly, beautiful jewels. If they’re famous, better yet.

Interpol agent Luke Eldridge has one goal and one goal only: to catch the Nightwatchman. Luke’s been after him for months, but getting the slip time and again is getting embarrassing. Luke has never even laid eyes on the bastard, but he’d happily strangle him. And then arrest him.

When Luke meets Corbin, the man of his dreams, he falls hard and fast… only to catch Corbin red-handed with his hand in a jewelry case at the scene of the highest-profile murder that’s rocked the international world in years.

Character Interview

Um, Hi. I’m Luke Eldridge. I’m American but I live and work in London. Sometimes I think I’ve been here too long… I said whilst the other day. It just slipped out. I said I’d answer a few questions but I have to make it quick. My boss is on my ass to get these reports turned in.

What’s most important to you?

My work. I honestly love what I do. Bringing thieves to justice and returning what they stole to the rightful owners. I love my family too. I don’t see my parents very often, they live back in the states. But my best friend and his wife and kids are my surrogate family. I make time for them as often as I can.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I want to be in charge of my own division. I’ve been working toward that ever since I joined the agency. I probably shouldn’t tell you too much about it. My job isn’t exactly a secret, but I’m not supposed to talk about the cases I’m working. You understand, right? I guess it would be nice to have a family of my own… but not likely.

What makes you envious?

Not much… but sometimes when I’m riding home late at night after a long case and it’s raining and I’m alone, I look into the bright cheerful windows of houses and I find myself wishing I was in there. Not enough to, you know, do anything about it. But it’s a thought.

What makes you happy?

Sleep. I’d really like to get some sleep. And pizza. Especially if it’s warm and I don’t have to rush out the door and eat it cold the next day.

Explain your job

I really shouldn’t… but okay. So, I tell most people I meet that I work in international banking, but we all know what that means. Government, agent, right? I’m interpol, started my career as FBI but I wanted to try something new. I work in a London office and we track jewel and art theft.

I hear you’re on a frustrating case

Don’t get me started. This guy has been leading me around by the, well… let’s just say we son’t have many leads. Everything about this guy tells us that he’s The Night Watchman, a thief who dropped off the face of the earth years ago. But somehow, I don’t think it is. I just — . Yeah. I don’t think this is the same guy.

Why not?

I really shouldn’t tell you much more. Waterman, my boss? He likes to be the one to interview with the press. Bit of a diva, that one. All I can really say is it just feels…different. I studied the original Night Watchman back in school. This guy? There’s something playful about him. It’s the game, not the prize. I have to admit, I’m fascinated… but I really do have to go. It looks like we just got another call.

Luke, who you just met, is one of the main characters in  my newest book Family Jewels. I hope you liked getting to know him:) Stay tuned for the next stop on the blog tour (there’s a calendar on my site). There will be prizes and more about Luke. There’s a little bit more about the book below!

MJ O’Shea

London, March.

“We’ve got something you need to see, Luke. You’d better get over here now.”

Luke Eldridge sighed into his phone. He glanced at the slices of pizza he’d just picked up from a food cart down on the Camden Lock. Looked like there was more cold pizza in his future. Typical. Irritating, but typical.

“Where are you?” Luke asked. He dragged himself off his soft leather couch. It made a disgusting squelching sound. Luke turned and halfheartedly wiped the seat off. He was tired from the run he’d forced himself to take, wet, and starting to chill as heat escaped through his damp T-shirt. The last thing he wanted to do was get back into a suit and go out in the cold he’d just escaped from.

Rob, one of his oldest friends from his days in the FBI academy, rattled off a very upper crust Kensington address.

“Jesus. Is this one going to make the morning press?” Luke asked. People who lived at addresses like that tended to make the news. His job was always harder when he had a ton of panicking socialites breathing down his neck guarding their beloved possessions. He didn’t need them or the news vans outside his crime scene.

“Probably. I’ll try to put it off as long as I can, but you know how it works. Just get your ass over here. Waterman’s on my dick already.”

“Sounds unpleasant.” Luke chuckled under his breath. “Does that surprise you?”

“Not really.”

Didn’t surprise Luke either. Their division chief within Interpol Art Crimes was all about the high profile cases. Art, jewelry, anyone with a Lord or Lady attached to their name. Even the odd Sir here and there. Cases like that were good press for the agency, he always said. Probably more like good for getting his face on the camera. Waterman was a media whore extraordinaire. Usually Luke didn’t care, but when they were in the middle of trying to open a case, it kind of pissed him off.

Luke felt it would be better to deal with the press after they had some solid leads, or, you know, someone in custody, but far be it for him to correct Waterman. He’d spent the last eight years trying to overcome the hereditary American-ness Waterman deemed a deep character flaw. If he started correcting the guy now, he might as well sign his own pink slip.

“I can be there in fifteen minutes. Waterman won’t even be done fixing his hair for the cameras,” Luke told Rob. He was already in his suit pants and shaking out his dress shirt. It felt a little stale from a long day, but he wasn’t going to put on a new one for a late evening call. If all went well, Luke would be back in his sweats and on his couch in less than an hour.

“Try to make it ten. I’m not in the mood to get my skin pulled off a strip at a time.”

He sounded like his typical sarcastic self, but the tone of his friend’s voice was different. Worried, maybe. “What’s going on, Rob? What are you leaving out?”

“There’s something weird about this one. Might cause us a lot of shit in the near future if I’m right.”

“Are you going to tell me or play guessing games?” Luke wasn’t in the mood to play anything. All he wanted to do was eat some still-warm pizza, crawl into bed, and sleep for days—or at least until his alarm went off at six. He’d gotten way too little sleep lately. He hadn’t gotten enough sleep in years.

Rob cleared his throat nervously. “You need to see this for yourself. Just get here, man.”

Luke disconnected the call. He finished dressing, shoved one piece of his pizza on a paper towel, and grabbed his keys. He could eat it on the way without ruining his suit. Even if he spilled, fuck it. Luke wasn’t going to sacrifice one more decent dinner to the cause.

It had rained earlier, and the London streets were still slick and dark, half frozen in the early spring chill, but at least it was quiet. The air was close to freezing, too. Unseasonably low temps, but sadly not by much. After all the years he’d been in London, the winters still got to him, cold and wet, the kind that seemed to creep all the way into the center of his chest—nothing like his childhood home in South Carolina or even Virginia, where he’d lived and worked his first few years out of the academy. Sometimes Luke missed the old optimistic years at Quantico. These days it seemed like the cold was impossible to shake. It seeped into his bones and camped out until nothing he did could warm him through.

I’m getting old.

The stone row houses slipped past, nestled together, dark on the outside like everything else, interiors shining and cheery against the insidious, creeping chill. Everyone who knew better was inside somewhere, enjoying dinner, relaxing with the people they loved. They didn’t look alone. He’d figured long ago his hopes for being one of them had probably passed. Luke loved his job, it was his life, but some nights he wouldn’t mind a break. Luke bypassed their unit’s Westminster offices in favor of going straight to the scene. He didn’t need anything but what he had on him. Hopefully he’d be in and out in time for the late news.

About the Author

Author PicI’m Mj O’Shea 🙂 I grew up, and still live, in sunny Washington state and while I love to visit other places, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.

I spent my childhood writing stories. Sometime in my early teens, the stories turned to romance. Most of those were about me, my friends, and our favorite movie and pop stars. Hopefully, I’ve come a long way since then.

When I’m not writing, I love to play the piano, dance, cook, paint pictures, and of course read! I like sparkly girly girl things, own at least twenty different colored headbands, and I have two little dogs who sit with me when I write. Sometimes they comes up with ideas for me too…when they’re not busy napping.

GIVEAWAY & R-rated EXCERPT: Fourth and Long by Michele M. Rakes

Fourth and Long Cover large

Irus Beaumont, cornerback for the Highlanders, has an issue with his nemesis: wideout for the Pirates, Jackson McCoy. Partly jealous over Jackson’s skill and ability to scrub coverage, Irus also struggles against an unbearable attraction to the receiver. Firmly ensconced in the closet, Irus also has a no football player rule, leaving his desires for Jackson unfulfilled. Anti-gay sentiment in the league keeps Irus closeted, even though he’d rather be out and proud.

When Jackson McCoy suffers a gay bashing at the hands of his team mates after winning the national championship, he finds himself traded to the Highlanders. Spring training brings out Jackson’s competitive nature, eliciting the aggression of his new team’s cornerback, Irus Beaumont.

In practice, Irus hurts Jackson badly. The injury places Jackson on the reserve roster. Jacks has plenty of time to contemplate his life, career, and his attraction to the sexy cornerback. Off to Orlando for the best rehab where guilt inspires Irus to call him every evening, Jackson can’t stop thinking about Irus, or what the season holds for his team.

Fourth and Long banner long

Irus moves up to me, slipping his strong arms around my body, his solid chest pressed to mine. “I’d never hurt you, Jacks. I want this to be for the long haul. If I’m gonna throw my ‘no football player’ rule out the window, I want to know it’s not for a one-night stand. You feel me?”

Relief spreads through my body. I nod, not sure I can respond verbally. He grabs a handful of my hair, tipping my head back so he can devour my mouth. He drives me up the stairs, his tongue dominating our kiss. I stumble backward. My jeans slip below my ass. I’m afraid I’m gonna tumble, but Irus has me. Somehow we make it to my bed. Irus stops just short of pushing me onto the mattress.

He shoves my shirt up my stomach, his palms flat on my belly as he slides the material across my chest. It’s over my head and on the floor in a second. The heat in his dark brown stare sends more blood rushing to my dick. He’s checking me out; his gaze rakes over my body along with his hands. I like the contrast of his black fingers exploring the ridges of my white skin, the grooves of my abdominals.

My cock twitches. I confess, I do it on purpose to get his attention. Irus glides his fingertip over my slit, spreading my leaking fluid, closing his palm around my shaft. I groan into his neck, nipping as I thrust into his hand. He smells like game day. I don’t even know if he showered. The idea turns me on, and I inhale his scent, licking his skin, tasting the saltiness.

The mellow light from the living room silhouettes Irus, making him look formidable. I’m only about four inches shorter, just enough to make me tip my head back to kiss him. I like my men bigger than me. I don’t know why.

I lean back to let Irus take control, and it’s like he knows what I want. He takes his time stripping me of my clothes. He touches me, explores every inch of me with his hands and tongue, tweaking my nipples, making my whole body flush with heat. The tingles go straight to my dick.

“You like that, Jacks?”

“Yes,” I whisper. He holds me with one arm, teasing my nipples until my knees buckle, and he lays me on the bed.

I watch him loosen his tie, his black fingers working the knot from the silken fabric, and then he slides it down his front to wind up on the floor. The buttons on his shirt are next, the tails already hanging out from my earlier assault. Luscious abs come into view, his dark skin so sweet I have to lick him some more.

He groans as my tongue slips into his belly button, trails along the hard-cut valleys of his abdomen. With a handful of my hair, he guides me to his dick jutting from his trousers. As I suck him, he unfastens his pants, letting them slide to the floor. He’s not wearing underwear. Fuck me. I don’t stop. I can’t. The joy of his cock in my mouth is what I’ve dreamed of since the first time he ever tackled me on the field.

REVIEW: A Pirate’s Life for Me by Tricia Owens

This is book one in the series and was FREE at time of drafting this post.

A pirate's life for me

A Pirate’s Life for Me

Book One (A Pirate’s Life For me #1) by Tricia Owens

After breaking up with his girlfriend, Lucas joins the cast of a pirate show on a tropical island. What he doesn’t know until too late is that there are two shows, one gay and one straight, and he’s just joined the cast of the wrong one. He wants badly to stay on the island but he faces two obstacles: the show’s sexy, alpha captain and his obnoxious but good-looking boyfriend. Lucas has to convince them he can play ‘gay’, but might end up learning more about himself than he’s prepared to.

Oh. My. Stars. What a story!  I simply love where and how  it was set in a totally unrealistic setting so please do not look for logic in the story….just enjoy reading it. Seriously, Everyone in this story is lovable, sexy, funny, and quirky.

The plot was really fun and refreshingly different. Once I let go of looking for something realistic in this story, I was captivated by the dialogue, and sexual tension. Believe me, the sexual tension in the story is so thick, you could almost slice it and hand around as if it was a slice of decadent gateaux.

What made this story 5 stars for me was the constant bantering and bickering between two characters. OMG, those two made me laugh often. The sensuous scenes were so erotic, my eyes were like saucers, I am sure. When the story finished at the most “interesting” part, I almost screamed “Noooooooooo…”. I asked for the second part to read and review, but couldn’t wait so I ended up purchasing the story. I couldn’t wait a minute, let alone a day or more to hear from the writer….I highly recommend you to read this story if you want or need to read something for escapism to have a great time and get ready to giggle, and turn red and the rest…..

Brilliant story, Ms Owens! I can’t wait to read your next MM story. 5 stars.

I loved RJ Scott’s Sanctuary Series so it’s exciting to see French and Italian readers will have translations of Guarding Morgan, available to them. Plus it’s in Audio book. Woo hoo!

Sanctuary 1 Guarding Morgan

The Book

Morgan Drake witnesses a murder in an alleyway. He is the only person who can give evidence in prosecuting the cop responsible for the crime. When the FBI safe house where he’s being held is compromised, he follows the instructions of his agent in charge and runs.

Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary, a foundation that offers witness protection when FBI security is questionable.

When Morgan’s handler sends him to Nik for safety, neither Morgan nor Nik could imagine that two weeks alone in a cabin in the woods could start something more. Something way more than just trying to keep Morgan alive. Something that makes their heart race more than danger…… Love.

Title: Secret
Author: Kindle Alexander
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: Summer 2015
Tristan Wilder, self-made millionaire and devastatingly handsome CEO of Wilder-Nation is on the verge of a very lucrative buyout. With tough negotiations ahead, he’s armed with his acquisition pitch, ready to launch the deal of a lifetime. There’s just one glitch. The last thing he expects is to fall for the hot business owner he’s trying to sway.
Dylan Reeves, computer science engineer and founder of the very successful social media site, Secret, is faced with a life-altering decision. A devoted family man with three kids and a wife, Dylan has been living a secret for years. Fiercely loyal to his convictions, his boundaries blur after meeting the striking owner of the corporation interested in acquiring his company. For the first time in his life, reckless desire consumes him when the gorgeous computer mogul makes an offer he can’t refuse.
a few minutes of staring at Dylan, who hadn’t looked his way since he entered
the conference room, Tristan cleared his throat, stopping the flow of the
presentation. “Can you all give me a few minutes alone with Mr. Reeves?”
could feel every eye turned his way. Dylan was slower to respond. He’d been
reading from the contract and lifted his head, business clearly on his mind.
But the minute their gazes met, Tristan got why Dylan had avoided eye contact.
His gaze held a mixture of both heat and need. Sparks flew between the two of
them and Tristan smiled.

He clearly thought Tristan’s request hadn’t included him.
I need a private discussion with Mr. Reeves,” Tristan said, rising from his
seat at the end of the table. Landry came immediately to him, standing in front
of him, blocking Dylan from seeing or hearing anything he said.
don’t think that’s a good idea,” Landry whispered so quietly Tristan barely
heard him. “We almost have them, I can see it.”
cut his eyes over to Landry’s and motioned with his head for him to move along
out the door with everyone else. Landry’s brow furrowed and he started to shake
his head. Tristan stared at him with intense attitude until he finally left the
room. Tristan had no doubt he’d stand right outside that door. There wasn’t too
much of Wilder, Inc. that Landry wasn’t included in, and he certainly wouldn’t
like being put out of a meeting he’d orchestrated. Tristan moved to a chair
directly beside Dylan who hadn’t uttered a single word since his request for

means you’re coming with me tonight?” Tristan asked, his eyes still focused
directly on Dylan’s.

was just reading about the staffing…” Dylan started, but Tristan lifted a hand
to Dylan’s lips to stop his words. He let his fingers linger as he spoke.

decide how this sale goes, no one else, but before we do, I want to put

Will you please go with me tonight? I need to cancel some things if you’re not coming,”
Tristan added at Dylan’s skeptical look.
Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!
I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

GUEST POST, EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: In-Decision by Sue Brown

Indecision BT

In-Decision 400x600Title: In-Decision

Series: Left at the Crossroads #2

Author: Sue Brown

Length: 43,000 words/139 Pages

Release Date: April 15, 2015

Blurb: Little Mowbury is a sleepy English village deep in the Cotswolds. The kind of village where you’re only a local if your lineage can be traced back to the dinosaurs. Where you can find everything in the single village shop from morning newspapers to dry-cleaning, and getting your shoes mended. And, of course, where everybody knows everybody else’s business. It’s easy to find… you can’t miss it… just ask anyone and they’ll tell you… “It’s left at the crossroads.”

Eighteen months ago Jason Havers lost the love of his life and it’s time to move on. Applying for the position of chef in a sleepy country pub, a million miles away from his previous life, may well be the fresh start he needs. His new employers immediately take him under their wing and before long he finds himself with a passel of new friends and a job he loves. What he doesn’t expect is Tom, a gorgeous midwife, who stirs up feelings he’s not ready to deal with.

But when someone from his previous life turns up in Little Mowbury, will Jason be able to keep them from revealing the secret he’s been keeping from those he’s come to love?

Sue’s list of what not to say to an M/M romance writer.

“You write what?”

I’m faced with a table of lesbians, mouths open as they stare at me. Suddenly I know how it feels to be an insect under the microscope.

I smile sweetly. “Yes, I write gay romance.”

“But why?”

I give my usual answer. “Because I can.”

In fairness the ladies wanted to know why I didn’t write F/F, which is a change from most people who think I should write het. And I can see why F/F makes more sense to them.

Without trying to sound pretentious I write what’s in my head, and the voices talking to me in my head are guys, not girls.

I did try writing het. It wasn’t successful. I got a third of the way in and gave up. Some lovely readers  betaed it and they weren’t happy. I rewrote it and tried again. I failed miserably. They aren’t the voices that talk the loudest. If you can imagine living with Liam and Sam, or Luke and Simon, in your head, you’ll understand why I failed.

I want to be number 1 in Amazon. Of course I do. But if I achieve my goal I’ll do it with gay characters because that’s where my muse leads me.

Jason Havers drove down the narrow village street looking for the Thatcher’s Arms. The farmer’s directions to Little Mowbury had been clear enough, even if he had mumbled into his beard; turn left at the crossroads and keep driving.

“But when the hell am I meant to stop?” Jason muttered. He’d reached Little Mowbury and he still hadn’t found the bloody pub. He’d left plenty of time to find the place, not wanting to be late for the job interview, but there had been congestion on the motorway. The stupid satnav had given up with a mile and a half to go, leaving him cursing at the useless piece of technology and driving through unmarked country lanes for twenty minutes until he found a human who could give him directions. Now he had ten minutes to find the pub before he could kiss the interview goodbye. “It’s on the left,” he muttered. “On the left.”

Something out of the corner of his right eye caught his attention and he slammed on the brakes, missing the man who’d stepped out in front of him by a hair’s breath. The bloke actually had the gall to glare at him and give him the finger before he disappeared into one of the cottages.

His heart pounding, Jason sat back in the driver’s seat and stared after the arsehole. He shook his head in disbelief and said sarcastically, “Welcome to Little Mowbury, Jason.”

A loud honk behind him made Jason jump and he cursed as he stalled the engine before he finally managed to get the car started again. Waving his apology to the car behind, he pulled away and there it was, fifty yards down the road opposite the village green. A typical English village pub with a thatched roof, wooden tables outside and large hanging baskets everywhere.

Jason left the car at the edge of the green and jogged towards the pub. Then he stopped and squinted at the ridge of the roof, grinning as he spied the thatched duck perched on the top. He had three minutes before eleven o’clock. Not good but at least he wasn’t late. He paused in the doorway of the Thatcher’s Arms, his eyes adjusting to the dark interior after the brightness of the late morning sunshine.

“Come in, son. You’re making the place look untidy.”

Still blind from the sun, Jason moved towards the voice, which he discovered as he drew closer, belonged to an elderly lady who stood behind the bar.

“What can I get you?” she asked, looking at him expectantly. Her huge, dangling earrings rattled as she talked. Jason tried not to focus on them, but better to look at the earrings than her impressive chest which was really distracting, even for him.

“Uh… I’m Jason.”

She looked at him with a blank expression.

“Jason Havers. I’m here to interview for the chef’s position. We spoke on the phone?”

Her expression had moved on from blank to puzzled and Jason’s mind raced as he wondered whether he’d got the wrong day or time, or even the wrong fucking pub.

Then she beamed at him as she leaned on the bar. “Sorry, luv, I completely forgot. It’s been manic here this morning. We’ve only just cleared the breakfast crowd and we’ve got to get ready for lunch. Colin, he’s my hubby, isn’t feeling too chipper this morning and Rich, the other chef, has had to go to the dentist. I’m Maggie Mason.” She shook Jason’s hand. He resisted the desire to wince and flex his fingers as she let it go. For an elderly woman she had a bloody firm grip.

Jason looked around him. The bar was half-full but he could see the tables hadn’t been bussed and there were dirty glasses at one end of the bar. “Can I help? I can give you a hand with the lunch. That is, if you want me to, I mean….”

Maggie nodded and handed him an apron. “If you want a baptism by fire, you’re on. I’ll interview you as we go. Do you mind clearing the tables?”

“No problem.”

“Leave the dirty plates at that end of the bar and I’ll take ‘em through to the kitchen.”

Although Jason was a chef by trade, he’d done most of the jobs required in restaurants and pubs. He started at one end of the bar and worked down, removing the remains of the breakfasts and cleaning the tables. As Jason worked he was conscious of the other customers staring and whispering about him. Maggie grinned at him as he delivered the dirty plates.

“Are the locals giving you a hard time?”

Jason smirked. “They just want to know about the new boy in town.” He tilted his head at the two old gents sat in the snug. “Especially them.”

Maggie scowled at them but it was more affectionate than fierce and the old guys raised their pint glasses in response. “They’re the worst of the lot. Never tell them your business. It’ll be all round the village before you’ve had a chance to breathe.

“You’re the one who flaps her mouth, Maggie May.” An elderly man with an amazing amount of snow-white hair wrapped his arms around Maggie and tugged him against her.

She huffed but didn’t try to move away from him. “Jason, this is my husband, Colin. Ignore everything he says. I’m the one in charge.”

Colin shook Jason’s hand. “Pleased to meet you, Jason. We just let Maggie think she’s in charge—for a quiet life.”

“I understand,” Jason assured him then winked at Maggie, who burst out laughing.

“I like him. I think we’ll keep him.”

“You haven’t tried my cooking yet,” Jason pointed out.

Maggie looked at her watch. “You’d better get in the kitchen. Rich did the preparation before he left.”

Colin frowned at his wife. “I thought he was here for an interview?”

“We decided to make it a practical interview. He offered to help clear up.”

“Okay, son. The kitchen is all yours. I’ll show you round.” As Jason followed Colin he noticed the man shuffled one of his feet. Colin saw his gaze and shrugged. “I had a stroke the end of last year. I’m fine now but I still struggle walking any distance.”

“Is that why you’re looking for another chef?”

“Rich has been great. He’s picked up most of the shifts, but he’s found a girl in Southampton and he wants to spend more time with her. We agreed to split his shifts.”

Jason frowned. “So the job isn’t full-time?” He couldn’t afford to work part-time. Not now he was on his own.

“It is, but split over breakfast, lunch and dinner. You’ll have more than enough to do.” Colin opened the door to the kitchen.

“Wow.” Jason blinked as he looked at the stainless steel kitchen. He was hard put not to drool as he gazed around. “This looks new.”

“Almost,” Colin said. “We replaced it just before my stroke.”

“First orders, boys.” Maggie handed them to Jason, ignoring Colin’s outstretched hand. “Three mixed grills and hold the bacon on one of them.”

“Okay then.”

Colin limped to the fridge. “I’ll give you a hand if you want.”

Jason was about to protest he was fine on his own, but realised this was part of his interview. “Sounds good to me.”

They worked efficiently together with Colin holding back as Jason got the hang of the kitchen. Colin nodded in approval as he plated the order then Jason delivered the food to a family sitting in one corner of the bar.

He smiled at them all. “Who wants the no bacon?”

A teenage girl with soft curls and large eyes smiled shyly at him. “That’s mine.”

The man with her looked at his plate. “This looks amazing.” His stomach rumbled audibly and he blushed as his wife scolded him.

Jason grinned at them. “That’s what I like to hear. You’re my very first customers. Enjoy.”

As he walked past Maggie she handed him more orders. “It’s Thursday, so it’s liver and bacon day. Don’t forget the extra gravy for Deano Wells.”

Jason ruffled through the orders. “How will I know which one is his?”

“He’s usually the only one who orders liver and bacon,” Colin said drily.

Maggie shrugged. “We look after our customers.”

“Maggie has her favourites and they get whatever they want,” Colin said as they retreated to the kitchen. “I just shut up and do as I’m told.”

“Bollocks,” Maggie yelled behind them.

“I’ll make sure to do the same thing.” Jason deliberately raised his voice and smirked at Colin when Maggie responded with a loud snort.

“You’ll do just fine here,” Colin said.

Jason really hoped so because he hadn’t got nearly enough of this kitchen. “Tell me that at the end of the lunch session.”

Jason worked hard for a couple of hours until the rush died off. He was clearing up the last of the dishes when Maggie came in and handed him an envelope.

“What’s this?” He opened it to see a few ten pound notes.

“Your pay for today. You came for an interview, not to manage the kitchen. The job is yours if you want it.”

He cheered inside, but there were practical details to sort out. “I’ll need to find somewhere to stay. I couldn’t do this journey every day.”

Maggie pursed her lips before she said, “There’s a room upstairs if you want it. We used to run a B&B but after Colin’s stroke it became too much. There’s a room and a private bathroom.”

Jason hesitated for only a second. Although Maggie didn’t know it, this was the answer to his prayers. He had the chance to get away and make a fresh start. Away from David, and away from all the friends who looked at him as though he was broken. Those that had even bothered to stay.

“When do you want me to start?” He beamed at her and she grinned back.

“You can start Monday, but Saturday is Cricket Day for the village. Why don’t you stay Friday night and meet everyone before you start work?”

Jason opened his mouth to say it was too soon then closed it again. “Sure. I’ll drive over tomorrow evening, Mrs. Mason.”

Maggie held out her hand. “Welcome to the family, son. Call me Maggie.”

He dried his hand and shook it. “Thanks, Maggie. This means a lot to me.”

“You’re welcome. Now finish cleaning those dishes.”

Freeing His Mercenary

by Vanessa Sims

Series: Mercenary in Love #3

What would you do if the man you loved woke up and didn’t remember you?

Christian Storm was your normal kick ass bad boy, until his best friend admitted to having feelings for him.

One the heel of Rick’s confession, Christian gets his act together, and starts a relationship with Rick.

The case they’re working on together goes sour at the end and Rick is taken.

After a few days Rick is found broken and battered. When he wakes up in the hospital, Rick doesn’t know who he or anyone else is.

Now Christian has to find the man responsible for Rick’s abduction and attack before he strikes again. With his mind preoccupied with finding Logan, will Christian be able to convince Rick that they are deeply in love with each other? Or will Christian lose everything he holds dear?

Freeing His Mercenary is the continuation of Taming His Mercenary.

 Freeing his Mercenary Teaser corrected

Fuck they found him and it was all Christian’s fault. If he hadn’t come, Elliot would have been long gone.

“Go to your room,” Christian ordered.

“What the hell? I know how to take care of myself.” Maybe not against trained killers, but it was the principle of everything.

As he glared at Christian, something hit the wall behind his head. There was a slight sting making Elliot touch his ear, only to have the tips of his fingers come back bloody. One second he was staring at the blood on his fingers, the next his body was being pulled to the floor. The weight of Christian’s much heavier frame covering his as their assailant shot off a few more rounds.

“I’m going to distract him. I want you to crawl to the other side of the room, closer to the kitchen.” Christian whispered into his ear, and if his treacherous body didn’t pick that moment to go all soft and buttery, as if Christian were whispering sweet nothings into his ear and not trying to save his life. What the hell is wrong with me?

Putting that question to the back of his mind, Elliot started to low crawl to the other side of the room as Christian lifted up to return fire. As he settled behind the loveseat, he realized he was trapped because someone had just broken in through the kitchen door.

“Oh, fuck.”

Not giving himself time to think, Elliot stood up and charged the man that came through the door, tackling him to the floor. Sitting on the man’s chest, he delivered a right hook to the man’s jaw, knocking him unconscious. Scrambling off the man, Elliot quickly grabbed the discarded gun. Elliot wanted to take a break to give his heart time to slow down before it beat out of his chest. Before he could put that plan to action, he swung around with the gun pointed at the man that just entered the kitchen.

“Stop right fucking there!”

“Whoa. There’s no need to be hostile.”

“What the fuck? You came here to kill me and I’m the one that’s hostile?”

“Hardly. Christian come get your guard dog.”

At Christian’s name, Elliot realized that it had gone quiet in the living room. What the hell is going on? Was Christian okay? Why the hell did that matter?

“Killian when did you get here?” Elliot nearly jumped out of his skin at Christian’s words directly behind him.

“Not too long ago. There were two others out there waiting to get in. I took care of them.” Killian stated before looking pointedly at Elliot. “Are you going to tell him to put the gun down or am I going to have to take it from him?”

“Elliot, he’s good.” Christian stated calmly.

He wasn’t so sure about that, no matter how velvety soft Christian’s voice sounded in his ear. They could be waiting for him to let his guard down so they could kidnap him to get the information on Logan they needed. He could probably take one of them, but not both. Before he could tell Christian how not good he was, the gun was taken from him. He looked at Killian with shock and awe.

“I really don’ like guns pointed at me.” He said to Elliot, then looked over his shoulder. “I take it he had nothing to do with Rick’s condition?”

How to avoid the rejection blues and dealing with a bad review.

When I published my first book, I was scared to look at the first negative review. I knew everyone wouldn’t like my books, but that first bad anything is heartbreaking. I would tell my best friend. She would tell me all the things I needed to hear then I was happy again.

After a while I stopped reading them. Not to say that I don’t slip up a few times, but if a bad review tells me what I did wrong or what they didn’t like about the book, I try to take that into consideration when I write my next book. I know I can’t please everybody and that’s not just with books either, but to be honest you took the time to read my book, tell me what you honestly didn’t like about it. When it comes down to it you bought and read the book, so that’s a plus in my book.

I would like to hope that with every new book I publish that I get better with each one of them and hopefully I’ll only have a few bad reviews in the future.

A Story Is Born

My favorite part of writing is the tingle that starts in the back of your head as synapses come together to form an idea. Something – a random thought, a song you’ve heard, an image you’ve seen or that has just popped in your head – starts a tidal wave that grows and sweeps away everything. It’s then that the first faint flutters of a story take shape. As you stand there in awe, or walk down the street with music blaring in your ears, the skeleton is slowly covered by muscles and veins and skin, and once it’s all ready to take its first deep breath, its heart starts to beat. Tentatively at first, then stronger with every thump. Once it opens its eyes and lets you look inside, weaving threads together, dusting off hidden corners, making it all better, you know you’ve got another fictional baby to care for.

With a smile curving your lips and a certain delighted glint in your eyes, you rush to the first available keyboard or pen and paper and start writing it. As words flood the pages, the story becomes sharper, more defined, its population grows and it slowly finds its rightful way among the other tales you’ve created.

The sensation is always a little different, yet the thrill is just as powerful every time. So is the feeling of being grateful that your creative well is not dried up and still provides you with fresh nourishment. How will others see it? Will they love it as much as you? Will they understand the desperate rush to get it all out, to share it with them? If the story grips them, takes them prisoners while they read it, then they will.

As I am very visual when creating my stories, that initial phase when I sketch everything in my head, when the plot and characters step forward from the shadows, will always be my favorite. It’s like directing movies in your head with a bunch of very opinionated actors that sometimes demand you change the movie to take them where they were always supposed to be.

That does not mean I don’t enjoy every other aspect of writing: the struggle of doing justice to what I’ve seen, the cathartic moment when you write ‘The End,’ the editing and rewriting, the publishing, and the first readers sharing opinions. However, those first few pieces coming together in the beginning, giving spark to what will become my next story, will always make me the happiest.

NEW RELEASE: Own Me by Brina Brady

Own Me

by Brina Brady

Russian mobster Dmitri Dubrovsky SPANKS his new husband, former rent boy Brennen Brady.

Two husbands, deeply in love and lust, continue to doubt each other’s commitment and believe the worst. Dmitri’s possessiveness collides with Brennen’s jealousy and insecurity.

Brennen desires to fully submit and satisfy his husband’s every need, if only Dmitri would let him.

Everything is upended for the steamy couple when Dmitri’s ex-lover reveals a dangerous plot within the powerful Russian family’s organization. A series of events is set in motion that forces the pair to examine the depth of their devotion.

Dmitri’s secrets and lies, an effort to protect Brennen; lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. Through it all, the couple’s lust remains strong as they have blisteringly hot kinky sex at every opportunity.

Two husbands, still deeply in love and lust. Will that be enough when the family’s Russian enemies bring the fight to their door?

“Brennen Patrick Brady, strip down in the garage,” Dmitri yelled from the hallway as he placed the bag back into the closet.

“The garage?” There had been more attitude than question to his words. Calling him by his full name was never a good thing. Brennen’s stomach cramped, his palms moistened and nausea set in. He wiped his hands on his jeans. He didn’t believe the garage was an appropriate area for punishment. Not his punishment.

“Who’s in charge of your discipline?” Dmitri’s sharp voice, so sure of himself, sent chills through Brennen.

“You are.”

“Never question my orders. Unless of course, you want your punishment doubled,” he yelled from the hallway, and slammed the closet door.

“Yes, Sir.” He’s really being mean. Why not the fucking bed, so I’m more comfortable? This isn’t a good sign of things to come. He better not change his mind about his nasty belt.

Brennen lingered in the immaculate kitchen, standing frozen at the sink and looked through the window at the sparkling pool. Dmitri sprinted into the kitchen behind him. He nearly knocked Brennen over. He whipped around to face Dmitri, who was staring hard at Brennen with those piercing blue eyes.

“Don’t think I’m standing here ignoring the fact that you continue to disrespect me by not following my orders immediately and without question,” Dmitri said.

“Which garage?”

“The empty one. Kneel in the middle of the garage. Hands behind your back. Head bowed. Keep quiet. Think about your behavior.” Dmitri barked his orders.

Knots twisted in Brennen’s stomach. This would be the first punishment he would receive as a married man. Dmitri didn’t punish him frequently, but when he did, he displayed absolutely no mercy. Brennen had managed to stay in Dmitri’s good graces from the time they got married until now. All because of Viktor. His precious Viktor starts all this shit by coming to our home. Dmitri could have met him somewhere else instead of here. He knows exactly what time I come home. He wanted me to see them. But why?

I’ve waited so long for you.”

“Jon…” Ash wanted to be strong, he really did, but everything in his body fought with his brain, shouting at him to shut up and let this happen. “This is still wrong.”

“I know,” Jon whispered against his lips. “But nothing’s ever felt so right before.”
