EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Fallout by Meredith Russell

Happy Release Day!

Fallout (Flight HA1710 #4)

by Meredith Russell.

Can missing a fatal flight be the wake up call Harrison needs?

When Harrison Kelley is banned from getting on Flight HA1710, it seems to be the perfect ending to a crappy couple of days. Not only did he wreck a wedding, but he’s drunk way too much and been on the receiving end of the groom’s brother’s fists. Being escorted out of the airport by security was just the icing on the wedding cake.

Elijah Pettifer has lusted after Harrison from afar for years but Harrison never sees him as anything more than a friend. If he ever saw him at all. While attempting to defend what little honor Harrison has left, Elijah gets caught up in the wave of chaos surrounding his teenage crush. But missing his flight home because of Harrison’s mess might just be the luckiest thing to ever happen to him.

With a 24 hour ban imposed by the airport, and having only each other for company, the two men grow closer. But will the fate of the airplane they should have been on be the push Harrison needs to walk away from the toxic relationship of his past? And can Elijah make Harrison see exactly what he’s been missing out on because of it?

Flight HA1710 series

Harrison watched the bob of Elijah’s Adam’s apple as he drank. Old feelings resurfaced as he studied Elijah, his throat, his jaw, his glistening and wet lips, the way he flicked his tongue out after he lowered his glass. It’s like there was a memory trapped somewhere at the back of his mind, something about Elijah. Why did he feel like they’d done this before?

Harrison slid his glass onto the table. “When did you come out?”

Elijah looked at Harrison. “Pardon?”

“You weren’t out in high school. I just wondered—”

“Out in high school? You know I was the quiet kid. That would have been fun.” Elijah appeared tense as he sat up in his seat.

“It wasn’t so bad being out at school.” Harrison had come out in his final year. He had feared it, he remembered that, but when it came down to it, he found out who his real friends were and he remembered the feeling of freedom, to finally be who he was and be with who he wanted. Or at least as with as anyone could be when it came to Antony.

“Not for you maybe. We couldn’t all be Mr Popular.” Elijah shrugged. He probably thought he sounded bitterer than he had intended. “Whatever. It wasn’t the right time. Not for me.” He gave a faint smile. “Though I came close.”

Harrison studied Elijah’s face. Whatever the memory was, he was clearly remembering it fondly. “How close?”

Curling down his mouth, Elijah gave another shrug. “There was this one time I thought I’d outed myself.” He averted his eyes and chose to look toward the reception area beyond the lounge. “It was stupid really.”

“I doubt that.”

Elijah hesitated. Choosing his words carefully, he said, “There was a boy at school. I liked him, loved him, maybe.” He sighed and turned back to Harrison. “He didn’t even know I existed.”

“Are you sure?”

With a faint smile, Elijah lowered his head. “I’m pretty sure. We shared some friends and we were on one of the sports teams together so we’d end up hanging out, and would get invited to the same parties. And yet we were like strangers.”

Harrison pursed his lips as he remembered back to high school. “You did cross country, right?”

Elijah quirked an eyebrow. He seemed surprised. “Yeah.”

“I did that for a while. Dropped out though. I was better with short distances, track and field events. That and somehow I made it onto the lacrosse team. They must have been desperate.” Harrison laughed.

“Antony probably put in a good word.” Elijah didn’t say it with any venom, but the statement was clearly a dig.

Harrison didn’t rise to it, and switched the conversation back to Elijah. “So, who was he?”

“Who, what?”

“The guy you loved.”

Charlie Cochet reveals the beautiful cover art for the next book in her THIRDS series titled Against The Grain.

It releases on August 3, 2015, published by Dreamspinner Press.

As the fiercest Defense Agent at the THIRDS, Destructive Delta’s Ash Keeler is foul-mouthed and foul-tempered. But his hard-lined approach always yields results, evident by his recent infiltration of the Coalition. Thanks to Ash’s skills and the help of his team, they finally put an end to the murdering extremist group for good, though not before Ash takes a bullet to save teammate Cael Maddock. As a result, Ash’s secrets start to surface, and he can no longer ignore what’s in his heart.

Cael Maddock is no stranger to heartache. As a Recon Agent for Destructive Delta, he has successfully maneuvered through the urban jungle that is New York City, picking up his own scars along the way. Yet nothing he’s ever faced has been more of a challenge than the heart of Ash Keeler, his supposedly straight teammate. Being in love isn’t the only danger he and Ash face as wounds reopen and new secrets emerge, forcing them to question old loyalties.

When they arrived at HQ, the rest of their team was there in the armory getting dressed and gearing up. Cael pulled his extra uniform from his weapons locker, noticing how everyone seemed to be lost in their own thoughts. They were probably wondering along the same lines as him. This wasn’t a regular callout.

“Sloane, what’s going on?”

“I don’t know.”

Sloane looked troubled, and that wasn’t good. Why would Sparks not inform Sloane? Cael finished getting dressed beside Ash, straightening one of the straps of Ash’s tactical vest, when he heard familiar voices. Seb entered their armory, followed by his team. He was dressed in full gear, looking large and imposing, as always. He gave Cael a wink before walking past him to speak quietly to Hobbs, who was looking anxious. Calvin wasn’t kidding. Hobbs looked like he hadn’t slept in days. His shoulders were slumped, and he stayed as close to Calvin as possible. Seb let his head rest against his little brother’s, whispering something to Hobbs, who nodded and even managed a small smile.

Calvin closed his locker and turned to Seb. “Any idea what this is all about?”

“Yeah,” Dex pitched in. “And why are we meeting offsite?”

Seb released his brother and shook his head, his expression no less troubled or confused than the rest of them. “I know as much about all this as you guys. We better head out.”

They all finished suiting up and grabbing their gear before hurrying out of the armory and heading for their BearCats. Sloane, Seb, and Taylor did a quick recon before splitting up and leading their teams to their respective trucks. Hobbs climbed in behind the wheel with Calvin riding shotgun as usual. Cael sat behind his surveillance console when it struck him.

“Where’s the sarge?”

Everyone stilled.

“I’ll find out,” Sloane said, typing away at his smartphone as everyone took a seat on the bench and buckled up.

Cael fastened his seat belt as the BearCat roared to life when Sloane announced Sarge wasn’t coming.

“He’s not been called in on this.”
