Blurb

Dr. Mikhail “Misha” Budnikov takes one look at fellow fencer Ryan O’Connor and instantly knows his type. The undisciplined hothead is all ego with no finesse and even less control. In short, Misha’s pet peeves personified. To put the arrogant kid in check, Misha challenges him to a sparring match, which he predictably wins.

Not so predictably, Ryan asks him to be a mentor and show him how to fence. Startled by the moment of humility, Misha agrees.

What begins as fencing lessons becomes something much hotter, and before they know it, Misha is giving Ryan an entirely different kind of education. Dominance, submission, pain, pleasure—at the hands of an older, experienced man, a whole new world is opening up for Ryan.

As the trust deepens and their bond strengthens, though, Ryan retreats because that sham called love left him jaded long ago. Cynical beyond his years, he’s not letting his guard down, least of all for a thrice-divorced man twice his age.

Now Misha has to find a way to crack through those defenses…or accept defeat and walk away from the submissive who might just be the love of his life.

Author Bio

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…

The blurb…

Nate Bard is at his wit’s end. There’s something living—or not living, as the case may be—in his house, and if he ever wants to sleep again, it needs to go. Ever the skeptic, Nate balks at his sister’s suggestion of bringing in a psychic, but after another sleepless night, he’s desperate.
Enter Isaac Lane, the hot psychic who immediately senses both the ghost and the homeowner’s doubts.
Within minutes of Isaac’s arrival, weird things start happening. Though Nate hasn’t had a clue what’s been making this ghost so restless, now it seems the ghost is bent on getting the two men together. And neither Nate nor Isaac is able—or willing—to resist.

So what did Mishyjo think?

Ever since Nate’s boyfriend moved out, strange things have been happening in his house.  He is finally convinced to call in a psychic.  Enter Isaac.  Suddenly the sexual attraction between the two is overwhelming.  Though Nate is highly skeptical of psychics and Isaac wishes to remain the consummate professional, the aphrodisiac effect being caused by the ghost is overwhelming.

At only 31 pages the story was a bit rushed but it worked well.  It was a interesting take on the lonely ghost theme.  Both MCs were likable and believable.  I would like to have seen more of them together as a couple without the ghost’s supernatural sexual energy.  I would also like to have seen what happened with the ghost once he brought the two men together.

It’s Complicated by L.A. Witt

It's Complicated (Tucker Springs, #7)It’s Complicated by L.A. Witt

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb..

After their umpteenth breakup, Brad Sweeney and Jeff Hayden are living apart and starting over from scratch. The morning after a promising first date, they’re more optimistic than ever that they can make it work this time . . . until Jeff’s ex-wife and business partner calls to announce she’s pregnant with Jeff’s baby. Brad’s already competing with a demanding business for Jeff’s time. Now there’s a baby on the way, and worse, he’s afraid Jeff is still carrying a torch for the woman who’s carrying his child.

Jeff is desperately trying to keep his life together, but before he can even get his head around the news that he’s going to be a father, his ex announces that she wants to leave Tucker Springs. Now he either has to take over her role at the shop while ferrying the baby back and forth from Denver, or move the business—and himself—with her.

Brad and Jeff knew reconciliation wouldn’t be easy, but they’re rapidly running out of room for compromise. And sooner or later, something has to give.

So what did I think?

It wasn’t lying when this book was titled It’s Complicated! This is the story of trying to repair a relationship while dealing with a whole mess of issues.

I haven’t read many m/m romances which are focused on an established couple sorting through relationship issues – their ups and downs, arguments, hot make-up sex, stress and worry – so it was nice to read something a bit different for a change.

I’ve always enjoyed this series so was looking forward to getting a glimpse of some characters from the past books – although to be truthful, I wasn’t really taken with them and struggled a little bit to see the relevance to the story. The group played a role in enabling Brad to do something that Jeff wasn’t happy with, causing yet another argument, but what I really wanted was for some more interaction and support.

Brad and Jeff have been together for years but their relationship has been tested by their continual arguments. When the story starts, they are living apart but making an effort to get back together by slowly dating again and trying to sort out the reasons for their issues. But just as they start down this path, new obstacles are thrown in their way. The ramifications of one night Jeff spent with his ex-wife come back to haunt him – the resulting pregnancy has him facing some big decisions about his business, the baby, where he’s going to live and the role Brad will play in this life.

Overall it was an enjoyable story with lots of emotional discussions between the two men, interspersed with some sizzling sex and I appreciated the way Christine was portrayed. She had the potential to be one of those characters you just wanted to hate but she wasn’t.

If It Drives (Market Garden, #7)If It Drives

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The blurb…

If it flies, drives, or fornicates, it’s cheaper to rent it.

After driving James Harcourt, his wealthy banker boss, around for a year and a half, Cal isn’t surprised by much anymore. Not even James’s regular trips to Market Garden, London’s most elite gay brothel.

But when James leaves the Garden alone one night and turns to Cal instead, Cal’s floored. After crushing on his boss for ages, it’s his wet dream come true . . . until the awkward morning after. Cal still has a job to do, but he wants to offer more. Yet James doesn’t take him up on it; he keeps Cal at arm’s length and continues his chauffeured jaunts to Market Garden.

As Cal learns what James needs from the rentboys, he tries to fill that need himself. But there’s more to James’s penchant for rentboys than Cal realizes, and it may be one role that Cal can’t fill without overstepping his duty.

So what did I think?

I was privileged to receive an advance copy of this book for review and wow! I think this is my favourite of the series and I highly recommend you pre-order right now so you can get your hands on the book when it’s released in March!

Callum has been driving his boss, James, to the Market Garden and watched as James has brought home a number of the Market Garden rentboys. Cal has been watching James, seeing him in the lead up to his Market Garden visits and watching his reaction afterwards. Cal is pretty in tune with James’ emotional state and wants to take care of him. Sure, he lusts after James but there is something deeper, something that becomes more evident after a smoking hot one-night stand.

I loved to watch James and Cal together and the dominant/submissive coupling of a wealthy business man and his driver employee was intriguing. There is a real emotional side to the story as both men need to deal with the nature of their relationship outside the bedroom.

Unlike some of the other stories in the series, this one is full length and I loved it from beginning to end. I loved the characters, I loved the little glimpse of Nick and Spencer and that scene over the billiard table – hot!!!

Payoff (Market Garden, #6)Payoff by L.A. Witt and Aleksandr Voinov

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The blurb…

Tristan and Jared have got it made. When they aren’t raking in the cash together at Market Garden, they’re burning up their own sheets and getting closer by the day. But something isn’t right. Tristan’s on edge, and Jared doesn’t understand why.

Before they can hash things out, their services are requested by none other than Rolex. And Rolex doesn’t just want to be a bystander this time. He wants Jared while Tristan watches, and he’s more than willing to pay for it.

But Tristan’s reached a breaking point, and even that huge wad of cash might not be enough to keep tonight’s arrangement from crashing and burning.

So what did I think?

This review will have spoilers if you haven’t read the series yet! But if you haven’t read the series yet, get to it!

Market Garden is a club in London with an exclusive clientele with very hot and sexy rent boys to service their every need. The series has focused on different couples – some short stories that are hot and sexy, some longer stories, some focused on new characters and some giving us more of the characters we love.

Tristan and Jared are the original rentboys. In the first book, Quid Pro Quo, Jared has a crush on Tristan. Rolex (their client) requests to see them together making Jared’s dreams come true – heaps of sexual tension and passion! In the second book, Take It Off, it’s Tristan who can’t stop thinking of Jared. It’s hot and sexy with Jared in control and ends with Tristan and Jared acknowledging their interest in each other outside of Market Garden.

Books 3 (If It Flies) and 4 (If It Fornicates) focus on Nick and Spencer’s story while book 5 (Capture & Surrender) is about Frank and Stefan.

Payoff, the sixth book in the series, takes us back to Tristan and Jared. With a similar feel to the first books, it’s hot and sexy and short but manages to pack in a lot in those pages. Rolex returns but this time his request is something that Tristan finds really difficult to handle. Rolex wants Tristan to watch while he plays with Jared.

Filled with tension – an interesting combination of emotional and sexual tension – things finally come to a climax for these boys as they come to terms with how to balance working together and being together.

Hot and satisfying!

Enjoy the Silence by L.A. Witt

Enjoy the SilenceEnjoy the Silence by L.A. Witt

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Zander Lynch has his limits. He loves touring as the lead singer of his band, but sometimes, he needs a little peace and quiet. Just an hour of silence after a show with no one asking him questions or making demands.

Brad Reese needs this job. He’s recently been hired by the volatile, obnoxious lead guitarist…who is also Zander’s on-again off-again boyfriend. As much as Brad would love to get to know Zander, he’s not risking his job for someone who’s likely out of his league anyway.

But after a chance encounter, the attraction between the two men is undeniable. And though it means risking peace within the band—not to mention Brad’s employment—they might just be what the other has been missing.

So what did I think?

This was a fairly simple and quick to read story set in the world of rock n’ roll.

It has a focus on balancing relationship decisions with career choices as Zander has been staying with what (and who) he knows and making personal sacrifices so as not to rock the boat and upset the dynamics of the band.

Brad is selfless, loving Zander the man not Zander the rock star. “Maybe because I’d sat with him for a little while, shared a laugh and some smoke, and he hadn’t ruined his image by being a pretentious jerk or looking down his nose at me. He’d been human, and so seeing him now with all his stage dress and makeup, his larger-than-life effect was somehow more pronounced.”. Zander is attracted to Brad who sees the real person and wants what’s best for him. “Brad was a breath of fresh air in so many ways. He was so giving, so unselfish. He barely knew me, but still went out of his way to keep me sane.” Rick is the man who tries to manipulate them both.

It’s a short story with some steamy but very loving sex scenes, a bit of drama and a HFN ending.

After the Fall (Tucker Springs, #6)After the Fall by L.A. Witt

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

After years of saving every penny, Nathan has finally managed to buy the horse of his dreams. He’s looking forward to a summer of exploring the Colorado mountain trails above Tucker Springs with Tsarina. But on their very first ride, a motorcyclist makes a wrong turn, scaring Tsarina into bolting and leaving Nathan with a broken leg, a broken hand, and a ruined summer.

Ryan is a loner and a nomad, content with working odd jobs before moving on to the next town. Feeling guilty for causing the accident that leaves Nathan in two casts, Ryan offers to keep Tsarina exercised until Nathan heals.

Despite their bad start, Nathan and Ryan soon become friends . . . and then much more. But with a couple of nasty breakups in his past, Nathan doesn’t want feelings getting involved—especially knowing that Ryan will never settle down. But since when do feelings ever listen to reason?

So what did I think?

Once again it was nice to return to Tucker Springs, the town that has seen the start of some wonderful relationships. After The Fall is the story of Nathan and Ryan who meet after Ryan rides his motorbike into the path of Nathan’s horse, causing Nathan to fall and be injured. Instead of Nathan spending his summer riding the horse he has dreamed about and saved for, he finds himself falling for the man of his dreams – literally!

Ryan is the ultimate nice guy. From their first meeting, in less than perfect circumstances, his actions demonstrate to Nathan just what type of man he is and he gradually earns Nathan’s trust. The slow and steady build from friendship to more was very well done and it was a sweet journey.

In my Goodreads review I did have a comment here about a certain scene between Nathan and Ryan but as I have yet to master how to use spoilers on this blog, I have cut it out. If you are really keen, you can check out Goodreads! 🙂

The story is told from Nathan’s POV and it is interesting to see him deal with needing to depend on someone for his physical needs but also his fear of loving someone again. Ryan’s nomadic ways give Nathan a false sense of security that their relationship will be temporary so it comes somewhat as a shock to him when he discovers that love has crept up on him after all.

Combining some drama, a gorgeous horse, and two men who are both very likable, this story was a lovely addition to the Tucker Springs series.

Meet Me In The Middle by L.A. Witt

The Distance Between Us series

Meet Me in the Middle (Distance Between Us, #3)Meet Me in the Middle by L.A. Witt

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The blurb…

Fool me three times…

Dale Ramsey is looking forward to his twenty-year high school reunion except for one small problem. Adam O’Connor, his old friend—and old flame.

Twice before, Adam has disappeared from Dale’s life. Once after a graduation night fling, and again after a hot reunion years later. When Adam resurfaces this time, single and on the verge of retiring from the Navy, Dale wonders if he’ll want to mend fences…and maybe tear up some sheets.

The spark between them is alive and well, but Dale resists. After all, Adam only seems to come around when his life is in flux, and Dale is through being a placeholder until something better comes along. He wants his friend back, but not if he’ll be deserted a third time.

Inevitably, though, their attempts to rekindle their friendship wind up igniting something much hotter, and stirring up emotions too strong to ignore. Making Dale wonder if he should put his heart on the line…or if this time he should be the one to walk away.

Warning: Let’s face it, Dale’s been sitting quietly (well, kind of) on the sidelines since The Distance Between Us, and he waited patiently through The Closer You Get. Dude is seriously ready for some scorching-hot action, so keep a fire extinguisher and some ice handy. These boys are gonna need it…

So what did I think?

“For God’s sake, Dale, do you think I just wanted to use you?” “I don’t know if that’s what you wanted or not,” I said. “But it’s what you did. Twice.”

Dale and Adam were best friends in school but parted immediately after their first sexual encounter which happened at graduation. They met again at their 10 year school reunion but once again, Adam leaves Dale after making him promises which he doesn’t keep. Finally 20 years after their first encounter, they meet again at the school reunion.

I enjoyed this book but not the level of the previous two in the series. I found it difficult to warm to Adam, or to forgive his treatment of Dale. I found it difficult to accept his reasons for leaving Dale each time and I found it really difficult to understand how Dale maintained his desire for Adam after so many years and so much heartache.

All that aside, it is a nicely told tale with some sizzling sex and some romantic moments, definitely redeemed by the grand romantic gesture – I LOVE big, public romantic gestures!

The Blurb…

“The virgin isn’t the only one with something to lose… ”

Self-described manwhore Kieran Frost is loving the single life. Two years after moving to Seattle, he still has his friends with benefits, Rhett and Ethan, plus a never-ending supply of gorgeous, available men wandering through the bar where he works. A relationship? Spare him the drama and heartbreak. He’s got no complaints about his unattached lifestyle.

When Rhett’s daughter introduces him to newly-out-of-the-closet Alex Corbin, Kieran’s interest perks up. After all, the quiet ones are always the freaks in bed. But Alex isn’t just shy and reserved. He’s a virgin in every sense of the word, having never even kissed anyone else.

Kieran is no one’s teacher, and his first instinct is to run like hell in the other direction. But his conscience won’t let him throw the na ve kid to the wolves for someone else to take advantage of. The plan is to introduce Alex to his own sexuality, pull him out of his shell, then go their separate ways.

It’s the perfect, foolproof plan…assuming no one falls in love.

Warning: This sequel to “The Distance Between Us” contains a curious virgin, a shameless slut, a trip to a sex shop, and one stubborn heart. Oh, and a dildo.

So what did I think?

When I finished the first book in this series The Distance Between Us, I was left feeling slightly disappointed because I wanted to see Kieran get his happy ever after. Obviously this was a common feeling amongst readers according to the author dedication: “To everyone who said Kieran deserved his own story: I agree. This one’s for you.” Thank you L.A. Witt!

I didn’t fully understand Kieran’s actions in The Distance Between us and exactly what he was getting out of the relationship with Rhett and Ethan. It was good to get insight into Kieran and greater understanding of his feelings about the relationship. I was reassured to find out that he didn’t feel used!

The premise of this story is fairly simple – Kieran, self-declared slut “Some people said that made me a slut. Hey, if the shoe fits… finally meets the man who breaks down his barriers, the man worth risking a relationship. Alex is a virgin in every sense of the word – he hasn’t kissed a girl or a boy and really has led a very sheltered existence.

“The manwhore and the virgin. Wow, this is crazy.”

Told from Kieran’s point of view, we see how Kieran educates Alex, taking him under his wing. I could appreciate how slowly Kieran moved, how considerate he was for Alex’s feelings, not wanting to rush him and wanting to make sure all his experiences were good ones. It was so obvious that Kieran had developed deep feelings for Alex, even if he couldn’t acknowledge it himself.

Some of Alex’s ‘education’ was quite amusing as Kieran explains the workings of dating and sex, taking him to sex shops and experimenting together. “I guess I always thought…um…toys were more for women.” “Depending on who you ask, the same could be said for cocks,” I said. “but as far as I’m concerned, what’s good for the goose…”. At other times it was just sweet and gentle.

The shift from sex to love is gradual. Kieran needs to address his fear of long-term relationships and the hurt that can be caused. He is also mindful that Alex hasn’t had a chance to experience more of the world, to date other people but luckily Alex is wiser “Maybe that’s why fate made me wait so long. So my first could be my only.”

There is definitely an extra star given for the totally romantic epilogue!

The Blurb…

From money pit to windfall…or is it a pitfall?

After ten years together, Ethan Mallory and Rhett Solomon are calling it quits. They’re more than ready to dump their heavy emotional baggage. The only thing they can’t seem to unload is the house. They’re stuck living as roommates with a hefty mortgage hanging over their heads…at least until they can bring in some extra money to pay it down. Solution: rent out a room.

Enter Kieran Frost. Suddenly, the only thing Ethan and Rhett both want more than getting away from each other is getting close to their single, young, hot roommate. Complicating things is the fact that Kieran doesn’t mind the attention from both, and he certainly doesn’t mind sharing.

Their combined chemistry ignites something else that Ethan and Rhett had thought was long dead—the mutual attraction that drew them together in the first place. Except bitter jealousy over Kieran could only push them even farther apart…

So what did I think?

Rhett and Ethan have grown apart over the last ten years are separating. Unfortunately circumstances mean they must continue to share the house they own and take in a roommate to speed up the house repayments. The sooner they can gain more equity in the house, the sooner they can sell and get on with their lives.

Despite Ethan’s declaration that he couldn’t stand the sight of Ethan, and both of them agreeing that the sooner they were able to get out of each’s way the better, it is obvious there is something unresolved.

An interesting scenario develops with new housemate Keiran. Both Ethan and Rhett become involved with the man, first separately but then together. And through this, Ethan and Rhett discover new found passion for each other. But although he can’t deny the attraction to Ethan and how well they work together in bed (and the sex IS hot and passionate!), Rhett realises that ‘ex-sex’ may not be the answer….
“That brief taste of something good made the cold colder, the quiet quieter, and the bitterness bitterer. And I couldn’t do it anymore. I had to end this arrangement with Ethan. No matter how hot it was, it couldn’t go on because I couldn’t stand the cold.”

In many ways Keiran becomes the trigger that leads the men to finally starting to communicate. They start to understand why their relationship started to fail and exposed their true feelings towards one another.
[“I never stopped loving you.”
I smiled and kissed him again, then whispered, “I never stopped loving you, either.” I thought I had. there were times I thought I hated him.
Never in my life had I been so glad to be wrong.”

(hide spoiler)]

Some of the story puzzled me. There was emotional fall-out from one of the sexual encounters between the three men (“It was a mistake because it happened for all the wrong reasons”). Kieran seemed to be the one getting the raw deal. I couldn’t fully understand why Kieran would be receptive to the offer to participate again or why Rhett and Ethan would want to continue involving Kieran. “This is probably one of the most unorthodox solutions to one of the most unorthodox situations I’ve ever heard of.”

What I really wanted was for Kieran to also find happiness and not be the outsider. So this is what I am hoping for in book 2, The Closer You Get.
