EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

Matthew left Shane’s flat, took the lift down and soon found himself on the street. He started walking back toward his home in Chelsea. It was a couple of miles, but the walk would do him good. He could get rid of all the frustrations and guilt he was carrying.

How the hell could he do something like that to Shane?

He could still see the hurt in the man’s eyes as he’d put the money down on the table. He’d truly thought he’d get decked.

Even in that Shane had been the better man. Matthew felt a shame in his soul the likes of which he’d never felt before. He stopped, considering whether to go back and apologise. He decided things were too raw. Better to wait until both of them were less emotional. Matthew stood against the railing on the river bank, staring out across the water at the twinkling lights of the other side. He’d had the best night he’d had in a long time. He’d got laid by a man who had taken his needs into consideration, he’d had the best couple of orgasms he could remember, and then he’d treated another human being like dog shit.

He wanted this whole thing to stay superficial, non-committal. And somewhere deeper he knew it might not end up being that way with this man.

THE MEN OF LONDON

From London to Flam,

there’s no escaping love.

WITH BOTH HANDS

Brawny, beautiful, complicated and sexy as hell, eco-warrior Mango Manning is everything performer and London nightclub owner Ryan Bishop wants in a life-partner. But Mango has been loving and leaving him for the past two years, and Ryan’s had enough. That’s why he’s moving on. Ryan’s the monogamous type—which means now he’ll be alone at the worst possible time.

Mango Manning knows he’s screwed up and has commitment issues. That’s why he’s been so on-and-off with Ryan these past two years. He’d thought he found a safe haven, a place to hide from the losses of his past, but there are other demons you just can’t escape. Like Ryan’s health. If Mango is to put things right, he must man up and discover a way back into Club Delish and the heart of its owner. Only then can they look to the future together, come what may. True happiness will slip through their fingers…unless they both grab on and hold tight.

Excerpt

“You have got to be fucking kidding me.”

Ryan gulped down the remains of his Heavenly Hawaiian Kona Coffee and stormed over to his front door. He was as pissed off that he’d wasted a mouthful of expensive and exclusive coffee as he was with Mango, who stood at the entrance to his building being an insistent pest.

After the first buzz of the doorbell, Ryan had checked the security camera to determine who his visitor was. When he’d seen it was Mango, he’d ignored the bastard. Mango obviously didn’t have the keys he’d been given for Ryan’s flat and Club Delish in case of emergencies.

The buzzer had gone again. And again. Each time Mango lay on the bell longer than before. The fourth time it sounded, Ryan was ready to commit murder. The overwhelming desire to punch Mango’s lights out was, however, accompanied with an instant body tingle at the sight of his lover. Ryan knew this moment had been coming but he still wasn’t prepared for what he needed to do.

He flung the door open and put his hands on his hips. “You’ve got a fucking nerve,” he growled as Mango smiled hesitantly at him.

Review clips

What people are saying about the series so far-

Men of London is a series about different men, from all walks of life, living in London and living their lives. They all have nothing in common with each other but the stories are interconnected in one way or another.

I’m loving this series, I really am! Eddie, Gideon, Taylor, and Draven all play a part here, and for that I am eternally grateful! I love we get to catch up with them as well as delving into the fashion and porn world.

Soooooooo awesome. Seriously, you can never go wrong with Susan’s books. They’re like a romp through a broken heart’s dreams and then kisses to make it all better.

Another terrific pairing of two mismatched but ultimately destined to be together Men of London. This series just gets better and better…

Susan Mac Nicol has a way with words, and her Men of London are just another reason I want to jump in a plane and plan a trip…….I want to find these guys and hug them all, and never let go. Thank you Susan for writing such a wonderful book, one that will be read over, and over again.

I love that this series intersects the lives of these couples. You fall in love with them and even though you don’t get full information you still get little snippets of their lives in the next book.

Men of London brings new and interesting relationships with every instalment. Yet somehow, your favorites from previous books are all there and their circle of friends keeps expanding. It’s a smart way to link the series and keep fans close to their earlier character crushes.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Double Alchemy by Susan Mac Nicol

DA tour banner

Double Alchemy

Powerful yet tormented modern warlock Quinn Fairmont must initiate the silver-eyed Cade Mairston into the world of witchfinders, Withinners, and what can happen when two men fall truly, madly, deeply in love.

THE WORLD IN SHADOW

In modern London there lurks a warlock, Quinn Fairmont. Dangerous, powerful, tortured, sharing his body with the soul of an ancient Welsh sorcerer, Quinn is never alone—and never wholly himself. He fights against all those who would exploit his kind. He takes pleasure where he can find it.

In the forest of Hampstead Heath, Quinn’s hometown, Cade Mairston appears to him like a waking dream. Lithe, lean and silver-eyed, he evokes feelings in Quinn unlike any other: lust with true affection, immediate and shocking. Cade is clearly more than he seems. And yet, if a man of the world, Cade is innocent. He knows nothing of warlocks, witchfinders or Withinners. He knows nothing of what he is, what he might be, or what he might feel. For him, the story is just beginning. Magyck, peril and passion await.

Double Alchemy Excerpt

In the men’s room, Cade stood with wide eyes in a pale face, his trembling hands clutching the sink basin. The only other patron in the bathroom glanced at him curiously but said nothing. The stranger finished at the urinal, zipped himself up and left the room with a nod at Cade who gave a distracted half smile back. What the hell is wrong with me? How can I feel this way about a man I’ve just met? It’s insane. I have the boner the size of China and my arse is begging for the man to fill it. I’ve never felt this way before. Ever. He could hardly be still, the sensation in his groin overpowering. Whilst Cade had been watching Quinn speak, all he could think about was biting his bottom lip and ripping that white tailored shirt off his shoulders. The attraction was so extreme he’d thought he was going to be sick. Cade leaned down, drinking some water from the tap, taking a handkerchief from his pocket and wetting it, then patting his forehead. The sensation had partly gone and he was a little more back to normal. But in Quinn Fairmont’s presence, he seemed to be nothing more than a bag of screaming lust with a throbbing hard-on between his legs that he couldn’t control. He took a deep breath before leaving the bathroom. He started as he saw Quinn leaning against the wall, elbows folded, a brooding look on his face, his blond hair looking as if he’d just run his fingers through it.

Christ, the man looks like pure sex on legs.

“Do you make a habit of this, Mr. Fairmont?” Cade said grimly, wanting to take some control back. “This is the second time I’ve found you lurking around.”

Quinn smiled lazily and unpeeled himself from the wall. “You seemed a little distressed. I wanted to see you were okay. Again. I told you I have a Sir Galahad complex.”

The corridor was empty of people, leaving Cade feeling exposed. He tried to move past him but Quinn blocked his way, moving closer to him than he could stand.

“I’m not some shrinking violet,” Cade sneered as he tried to push past. But just the smell and the feel of the man’s body as he brushed past was intoxicating and his head swum. “I’m a big boy and quite able to take care of myself.”

Double Alchemy: Climax

Powerful modern warlock Quinn Fairmont found ecstasy with the silver-eyed and not-quite-human Cade Mairston, but to know true happiness the pair must best both the shadow of a long-ago lover and an ancient enemy who seeks to destroy love, light and all they hold dear.
A BLINDING LIGHT
It begins with a Book of Shadows discovered by a London coven. The grimoire is as dangerous as it is rare, which is why it evokes modern-day warlock Quinn Fairmont’s desire. He collects objects of great power and beauty—like his lover, Cade Mairston.

Against all odds he and Cade found each other, but their perils have just begun. First is the ex-lover who once held Quinn in thrall. And, someone has been killing warlocks. Could it be one of his own kind? There are those too who would challenge Quinn’s power in their quest to overthrow him as Grand Master. Or is the danger something darker, something invoked inadvertently, rising from the shadows, building from the very inside of a man until it brings an end with a quick flash of light? Of the truth, the surface has only been scratched. Now Quinn and Cade must go deeper and find both answers and an end. They must learn what lurks in the hearts of men…and whether it seeks to love or destroy.

Susan Mac Nicol’s 2 Year Anniversary Celebration

banner

I love Susan Mac Nicol’s books so it was wonderful to be asked to participate in her Two Year Anniversary celebrations. CONGRATULATIONS, SUSAN! ❤

It got me thinking about Susan’s books so I thought I’d pull a review from the vault and share with you. Here’s my review from November 2013, for one of my favourites, Saving Alexander.

Saving Alexander

The blurb

Punishing himself for a horrific past that is not his fault, bestselling author Alexander Montgomery seeks redemption and love—and perhaps he will find it.

Famous author though he may be, Alexander Montgomery is not someone you take home to meet Mother. Seriously flawed, damaged by a horrific past, he’s trying hard to claw his way back to normality. But how can anyone respect what he truly is? His therapy involves regular sessions at Study in Scarlet, an exclusive S&M club.

Then comes Sage. Tall, with black hair and blue eyes, an up-and-coming actor with impossible charm and boy-next-door good looks, he’s the perfect choice to play the leading man in a TV adaptation of Alex’s last best-seller. Even more, he is a man you introduce to your family. Which Alex would do—if he weren’t taken by another man who offers the punishments Alex prays will wipe away the past and make him the person he wants to be. Yet, perhaps there is another path to redemption. If only the solution would reach out and touch him.

The review

It feels a little strange to be saying how much I loved a book about a man punishing himself for the sins of others but I so much enjoyed this story! Susan Mac Nicol tells a wonderful tale as she pairs a very broken man with the one man who can deliver him a future.

It was heartbreaking to read of Alexander’s torment, of his traumatic past and the way he viewed himself due to the actions of others.“I’m so scared I’ll never be able to have a proper relationship, that I’ll always be on my own because no one wants damaged goods.” As well as seeing a professional psychologist, he chooses to punish himself physically during regular S&M sessions with Eric. These ‘therapy’ sessions are violent and savage and provide a direct contrast to the physical relationship that Alex shares with Sage.

Sage is gorgeous. He is also caring and very compassionate. He is so accepting of Alex’s situation, seeing the man behind the emotional and physical scars. He does make the perfect saviour.

Jealousy does play a role in the story as Sage battles with Alex’s dependency on Eric and there are ramifications as a result of Alex’s changing needs.

The plot is unique with the romance between Alex and Sage paralleling Alex’s involvement with Eric, while events occur putting lives at risk, all set against a backdrop of a TV series film set.

From my heartbreak for Alex, my pure hatred of Eric and my admiration and respect for Sage, this was an emotional journey. Highly recommended!

Do check out the book trailer!

Excerpt

Sage moved toward Alex swiftly and Alex flinched as if he expected him to hit him or worse. Instead, Sage pulled him close, kissing him with a hunger that he hadn’t ever felt before for a man. Alex stiffened at first and then finally relaxed into him, his arms wrapping tightly around Sage’s neck, his mouth devouring Sage’s in a kiss that seemed to swallow him whole. Alex’s hands wound themselves tightly into Sage’s hair as he ground his mouth against his, pressing his body against Sage’s, leaving no doubt how the man felt.

Alex seemed to want to meld them together as one. Eventually they needed to come up for air and when they did, they were gasping at the intensity of their passion for each other.

“Jesus, Sage, I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t think you’d want me after that story,” Alex breathed against Sage’s mouth, driving him even crazier with desire.

Sage thought he might explode there and then. “Does this feel like a man who doesn’t want to be with you?” His voice was low as he ran his hands over Alex’s hips, pressing himself against him.

Both men moaned at feeling their hardness against each other’s stomachs. Alex reached down to caress Sage’s groin.

“God, don’t do that,” Sage groaned. “I’m barely holding it in as it is.”

Alex’s low chuckle made Sage’s control even more difficult as Alex reached out first to turn out the light Sage had originally come to switch off, then to pull Sage over to the two -seater couch in the corner of the office. The room was now pitch dark with only the dim streets lights from outside shining through.

“It’s not the Ritz but it’ll have to do. I so want you to fuck me, Sage. It’s all I’ve been thinking about for weeks,” Alex murmured, unzipping his jeans, tugging them and his silk boxers down over his hips.

His erection sprung out, ready and glistening with moisture. Sage couldn’t take his eyes off it as he yanked down his own pants. Alex reached out and pulled Sage’s shirt over his head, then slid a hand through his chest hair and his shoulders. Sage closed his eyes at Alex’s touch, feeling himself stiffen even more, his breath ragged and deep.

“Christ, Alex,” Sage murmured, knowing his limits and conscious that he’d reached most of them. “I’m not made of bloody steel, and you’ve been driving me crazy for weeks as well.”

“I have to leave my shirt on, Sage.” Alex’s voice was filled with resolve. “I’m not ready to take it off yet.”

Sage nodded. “If that’s what you want.” His hands stroked Alex’s back through the fabric, feeling the play of the man’s muscles beneath his eager fingers. He pushed Alex back onto the studio couch, covering him with his own body, so the men’s cocks were sandwiched together, skin to skin, slickness to slickness.

“No foreplay needed,” Alex whispered in his ear, his breath tickling the sensitive skin . “I just want to feel you inside me. It’s all I want right now.”

Excerpt, book trailer and giveaway: SUIT YOURSELF by Susan Mac Nicol

SYS Tour Banner Blogs OK

Scarred both physically and emotionally after a motorcycle accident, twenty-five year old ex fashion model and porn star Oliver Brown is about to be stripped bare by flamboyant twink Leslie Scott—and they’ll rebuild love from the bottom up.

BARING THE BEAST

Twenty-five year old Oliver Brown is addicted. Two years ago, he was at the height of his career as “Nicky Starr,” fashion model, porn actor, partier without peer. Then came the accident. Hiding his scars, both emotional and physical, he’s gone into hiding. But fine clothing is some solace. A new suit by Debussy? Better even than a ride on his motorcycle Hulk or all the things he used to give and take on camera.

Enter Leslie Scott, the flamboyant, dark-haired, heel-and-tiny-short-wearing twink sent to deliver Oliver’s newest fix. A firecracker, Leslie is dapper, generous, in touch with his feminine side but all man, and as gorgeous as any garment ever made. He makes Oliver dream of ending his reclusion, of recapturing a future forever denied him. But for that to happen, Leslie would have to strip him to the bone. Only then will they rebuild life from the bottom up.

Excerpt

Oliver’s arrived home horny and needs to relieve the tension…

The film, titled The War Whore, started and Oliver wondered if he was a narcissist watching his own movie. However, he wanted to see Adam in action, imagine it was Leslie above him, see those cobalt blue eyes staring into his as he fucked him. His cock rose and Oliver sighed in satisfaction as his hands got busy. There was something to be said about living alone and having the privacy to jack off in your own living room using the lube that was scattered around the place.

Through lazy eyes, he watched himself lying on a medieval divan, dressed in an opened leather waistcoat, chest hair showing. He remembered that those pants had been the most uncomfortable leather ones he’d ever worn. They were opened to show his cock upright and purpled, already glistening and definitely ready for the slave who stood in front of him. Adam smiled invitingly on screen and dropped his tunic to reveal an impressive dick and a slim, muscled body. He also had a backside that you could bounce coins off. The man’s arse had been bite-worthy, and Oliver’s mouth filled with saliva as he imagined what Leslie’s would be like. From what he’d seen today, the man had a tight, bubble arse and Oliver really wanted in.

Languid strokes to his cock made his pulse race; his mouth opened and his heavy breaths echoed in the room. He watched the events playing out on screen, as Adam straddled him and then rammed down on his cock with a fierce battle cry and began to bounce up and down like a yo-yo. Oliver closed his eyes and imagined that scene, but with Leslie in the slave role. Black bangs over blue eyes framed a face that was pale and delicate, yet with the strength of a man’s jaw and square cheekbones that made no mistake about the gender of the person currently riding Oliver’s cock.

Men Of London Series #3

Suit Yourself

by Author Susan Mac Nicol

Release Day, May 21st 2015

Scarred both physically and emotionally after a motorcycle accident, twenty-five year old ex fashion model and porn star Oliver Brown is about to be stripped bare by flamboyant twink Leslie Scott—and they’ll rebuild love from the bottom up.

BARING THE BEAST

Twenty-five year old Oliver Brown is addicted. Two years ago, he was at the height of his career as “Nikki Star,” fashion model, porn actor, partier without peer.

Excerpt- Suit Yourself

“Fuck, you look so hot,” Oliver said as he leapt onto the bed and straddled Leslie’s calves. “You have the perfect arse, you know that? Tight and just waiting for me.”

Leslie shivered, those words causing goose bumps to form on his over sensitive skin. “It could be the heel-wearing,” he mused. “I like to exercise my butt muscles when I wear them and dance. They say it’s a good way to tone up.” A hot body covered his and he closed his eyes in bliss.

“You wear heels?” Oliver’s tongue licked at his ear. “That is fucking sexy. I love that image.” His voice was husky, full of desire. “Will you wear them for me one day? Let me fuck you in them?”

Leslie’s heart filled with joy. He had a picture of himself on his phone in a corset, hat and heels. He’d have to show it to Oliver one day and get his engine even more revved up.

“Oh, God yes,” he exclaimed as Oliver’s tongue trailed down his shoulder blades and back. He gripped the bed sheets tighter at the sensation. “I have this pair of red ones you’ll like, and…oh, hell yes…” His voice tailed off in pure pleasure as Oliver parted his arse cheeks and lapped at his hole. Then the bliss of having fingers inside him, opening him wide, rendered him speechless. He gyrated and made little mewling kitten noises as Oliver proceeded to probe his hole, pushing his tongue inside him with wet, sloppy sounds that made Leslie’s cock throb.

He lost himself in the feeling of being explored, dominated and well and truly prepped. When he felt the cool dribble of lube at his hole and between his cheeks he sighed in relief and pushed his backside toward the man currently taking him to such pleasurable heights. When his hips were pulled up and Oliver’s cock nudged his entrance, Leslie pushed back and groaned as it sank deep inside him.

INTERVIEW

Hi Susan, Thanks for joining us today and congratulations on the release of Sight and Sinners, the second book in your Men of London series. I’ve had the pleasure of reading the book and loved it!

I’d love to know a little more about your writing process and habits so I hope you don’t mind answering some questions.

Do you find it more challenging to write the first book in a series or to write the subsequent novels?

Susan: It’s a challenge to write a series and something I’ve had to spend a little time getting my head around. When you write a standalone novel, it’s just the main MC’s and the support characters. In a series, you need to introduce the next characters, give them enough believability in the preceding book without giving away too much detail, and do a lot of foreshadowing to create an interest in them. You also have to remember what you said, what they looked like, how old they were, what their situation was etc so you can follow it through. It’s fun but as I said, challenging.

On a typical day, how much time would you spend writing? What are you doing the rest of the time?

Susan: I used to spend close to four-five hours writing , then another two or three doing promotional work, writing blog posts and generally getting the word out about my books. Now I’ve slowed down, I’m not sure why. It’s as if the initial creative spurt I had writing close to ten full length books in the space of 18 months has come to an end and I’m now in slow motion. It frustrates the crap out of me, to be honest. I want those days back, when I could sit down and write for hours even while holding down a day job. I honestly don’t know why my writing has slowed down. I guess life has gotten more in the way than I thought.

Describe your writing environment.

Susan – I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to write anywhere. The last twelve books were all written in my old home in Bocking, you can see my writing space in the picture. Now I write at my dining room table, or at work in my lunch time when I’m at my desk. I enjoy the noise around me, and am not fond of locking myself away in a study on my own to write. I wear my earphones, switch on the music and simply ignore everyone. They know not to bug me when I’m writing. My daughter tells everyone ‘not to poke the bear in the cave’ for fear of having limbs torn off.

Susan's Writing Environment

Draven or Taylor? Does one of these men hold a special place in your heart?

Susan – Draven is probably one I identify with the most in this story. He has a situation in his life with his little brother Jude, similar to one I had with my younger sister, Carol. She was in hospital for a long time, wasting away.  She was an alcoholic, determined to end her life and there was nothing we could do to save her. She was simply made comfortable in hospital during her last few months and then slipped away one day. I can totally empathise with Draven and the choices he faced in the end.

What else can we expect from the Men or London series? Are there any secrets you can share with your readers?

Susan – Oooh, well, let’s see. You are already personally privy to the next book in the series, which is Leslie’s story and how he meets Oliver Brown aka Nicky Starr, retired porn actor 🙂 You share a name.. I think you might be pleasantly surprised at what’s in store with Nicky.

Without giving away too much, also getting their own stories is Clay, who you’ll meet in Sight and Sinners, a cross dresser called Laverne (real name Lenny ,who you’ll be introduced to in Leslie’s story) , and the high flying Maxwell, air steward extraordinaire. He and Oliver are occasional f*** buddies so they have a bit of a history…

I’m honoured to have my name appear in one of your books. Thank you. ❤

What book is currently on your bedside table?

Susan – Currently it would be a huge tome called ‘Spangle’ by Gary Jennings. It’s a sweeping epic of life in a circus, not an M/M romance or any sort of romance, just a historical saga. I read it in between my M/M reads, absorbing the wonderfully atmospheric story little by little. There’s a reason I’m reading it; it’s all to do with another book I’m plotting.

THE MEN OF LONDON
From Charing Cross to Waterloo, there’s no escaping love.

SEEING THROUGH…

28-year-old Draven Samuels has a tragic past, but as an investigator with a high-profile London company he now gets what he wants. Tough, sarcastic, and sceptical, he has no patience for lies and even less for people who waste his time. Even if they’re as beautiful as the wild and dark-haired Taylor Abelard. Especially when they’re talking over the body of a murder victim.

THE DARKNESS

Psychic Taylor Abelard is used to people calling him a freak. He can see past events and feel the ghostly vibrations of people close to him who’ve passed on. It’s why he doesn’t get too close to the living. But this time, against his better judgment, despite Draven’s mocking rejoinders, Taylor will get closer than ever before. The mystery surrounding a dead friend will lead the two men down a dark and seedy trail of blackmail and lies. Add in the heartbreak of a family tragedy, and events lead them straight into each other’s arms. By the end of this night, all their demons will have risen—and been banished with the dawn.

Excerpt

The man Taylor was blowing definitely didn’t know how the hell to keep quiet. Taylor’s lips were wrapped around his dick, while above him a man stood, panting and moaning, turning the air blue with his curses. Taylor stopped what he was doing, causing the blowjob recipient to groan in dismay, and glared at the sweaty face above him.

“For Christ’s sake, Georgie, can you stop it with the fucking porn noises?” He glanced around him nervously. “This is where I work, damn it, and if anyone hears you they’ll come outside to see what all the fuss is about.”

Georgie’s wide eyes cast a quick glance around the deserted alleyway behind ‘Music Mayhem’ where Taylor was employed, then looked down at Taylor kneeling between his legs.

“Sorry, mate, it’s just that you’re so damn good at this and it’s been a while.”

Cover Artist: Boroughs Publishing Group

Blurb:

The search for a serial killer, Detective Anthony Parglietto and Flynn Parker learn that every man must make a choice: to kill, to live, to love.

FROM DARKNESS AND LIGHT

Someone is leaving a trail of bodies throughout London, and Detective Anthony Parglietto is determined to end the violence. Then he’ll return to the man he loves.

Tough, street-savvy, and used to dealing with lowlifes, Flynn Parker is the last person Anthony thinks he has to protect. Then the Bow-Tie Killer strikes close to home and the world turns upside down. Right is wrong, black is white, and a policeman might become a monster. But in the name of love, justice must be served. In the name of love, pain can be endured. In the name of love, a man can taste the very essence that defines him.

LoveBanner300x250Blue

Excerpt:

Anthony walked down the hall. He reached the bedroom and gently pushed the door open. He saw Flynn framed in the light of the lamp shining from the lounge. He lay, apparently asleep, on the leather and wood divan Anthony had brought over from Italy. Its dark burgundy colour contrasted with what Flynn wore, which was nothing but a black thong lying stark against his pale skin. The divan was under the window. The bed covers were rumpled, as if Flynn had been sleeping. His robe was draped across the foot of the bed. Anthony moved towards the gleaming body of his supine lover.

Flynn’s face was turned away towards the back of the sofa. His dark hair was tousled and his arms stretched above his head to the right. He wore a blindfold. Anthony felt a stir in his groin seeing those lean, hairy legs stretched out wantonly, inviting him to run his hands up and over his groin. Even appearing asleep, Flynn had the power to excite him, to make Anthony hard and ready. He stepped towards him, watching the rise and fall of Flynn’s chest with their already hardened nubs. Anthony wanted to run his tongue over that chest, with its smattering of fine hair, to take Flynn’s nipples in his mouth and suck them until Flynn groaned in pleasure. As he got closer in the dim light he saw the hands with their bonds of silk. Green bonds lay dark against Flynn’s wrists, fastened to the wooden struts of the upright chair arm. His hands were tight fists. Anthony chuckled softly, a noise that sounded loud in the stillness of the room.

“Been waiting long?’ he whispered as he took off his jacket. ‘I tried to get home as soon as I could.”

Anthony knew the bonds would be loose so Flynn could break free if needed but he also knew he wouldn’t. It was the way the game was played.

Review:

★★★★

I do enjoy a good serial killer novel and Love and Punishment really worked for me. I enjoyed the chase and the little POV from our killer.
The story grabbed me from the beginning; much the same way Flynn Parker is grabbed by the bowtie killer (BTK) on the first page.   But Flynn isn’t to be the next body found he’s just the perfect pawn BTK needs to taunt DI Anthony Parglietto as he continues to leave bodies all over London. Anthony is determined to stop BTK but how far is he willing to go to make that happen, will he cross that line between hero and villain?  How far will Flynn go to protect his lover, Anthony, from BTK once he is threaten with keeping secrets from Anthony.
One of the things I really liked about the story was that our MC’s were already in an established relationship; instead of falling into insta-love while tracking a killer.  Those types of stories always make me go huh, you have time to get busy and fall in love while tracking down a killer? This was more like getting home and falling into the arms of your lover to give you strength. That statement holds for our killer as well.
I also liked the fast pace of Love and Punishment even with the sex breaks (and there were quite a few of those) the story maintained it’s flow.  Oh and I really liked the last part of the book were we see how Anthony tries to come to terms with his actions.
About halfway through the story Flynn’s role kind of takes a backseat as BTK’s POV and lover’s POV become more of the focus and Anthony trying to figure it all out.  This almost made it feel like you were getting a bonus book/story.  How would you know you are dating a serial killer and what would you do if your lover found out you were a serial killer?  Makes you look at your significant other and think hmm did they really go to work or were they killing someone…
Some of the actions by the police officers in this story really didn’t ring true to me but I’m sure it was done to push the story in a certain direction.  And some of the editing got really choppy toward the end of the story.  But overall I really enjoyed this story the suspense was always there bubbling under the surface and I liked that a lot.

Enjoy

Worth KeepingWorth Keeping by Susan Mac Nicol

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Abused horrifically as a boy, Nick Mathers has come to terms with his existence as a man. Mostly. Other days life seems a little much. Especially when Nick knows he’ll always be alone.

On those days his thoughts turn black. He walks the Norfolk coast and considers the frigid embrace of the waves. And then, one stormy night, he finds someone who’s tasted just that. The beautiful stranger on the beach is near death, and Nick rushes him home to slowly nurse back to health. As he does, he finds a love unlike any other. Owen Butler’s body is as warm as the sea was cold, his heart as big as an ocean. And Owen is a man who swears to repay the favor. Nick can yet be saved from himself, and he will see that he is indeed a man…
WORTH KEEPING

So what did I think?

When Nick rescues Owen, the man he finds washed up on the beach, he doesn’t realise that he has saved the man who will end up saving him. Nick is a broken man, haunted by the horrors of his childhood. He has fears and nightmares and even after years of therapy and with the love of his adopted father, has yet to find peace.

“He’ll be all right, Socks,” he whispered. “He has you and me and Don. We’ll get him right. Damn man won’t stand a chance against a force like us.”

Nick is used to being on his own. The one and only time he trusted anyone enough to let them in, he found himself the victim of further abuse.

“I know I push you away. I’m not used to having anyone knowing about me still accepting me for what I am. Sometimes you might just have to fight for it. Please fight for me, Owen.” His voice trembled.

Nick is lucky to have found Owen, someone who can see past the scars to the man within but also sees the scars as a sign of the strong man Nick is.

The scars on his body made him even more beautiful in Owen’s eyes. They were badges of survival and perseverance, emblems of the man’s courage and his past.

Owen has had his own share of heartache and Nick gives him a second chance at life and love.

This story has it’s dark beginning and Nick’s tale of childhood abuse may upset some – it is upsetting but I believe handled well – and the issues of self harm and suicide may not make easy or comfortable reading for some. It is emotional, heartbreaking and absorbing, showing both the darker side of life but also showing that where there is love there is hope.
