He placed the single key on the table and slid it across the laminate surface until it sat directly in front of Josh.

Josh stared at the key for a moment before looking back at Charlie. He tilted his head to one side and his brows came together.

“I want you to have a key to my house. Not just because of Andrew, although I want you to know you will always have somewhere to go, but because I want you to be a part of my life. I want you to be able to come and go as you please.”

Happy release day for Out of the Blue by RJ Jones

Some of you may know that RJ is a co-owner here at Two Men. Some of you may even know that her debut novel is being released today. Take a closer look…

The Blurb…

When everything happens Out of the Blue…

Lt Cameron Cooper has been with the San Francisco Fire Department for fifteen years. He’s seen and dealt with a lot of horrifying situations. He’s always considered himself mentally tough, but when he attends a multi-vehicle accident and sees a dead boy with features remarkably similar to his long-time boyfriend, his mental health takes a hit.

All Jake Montgomery wants is to propose to his boyfriend on their ten-year anniversary. He’s already bought the perfect rings, but when Cameron struggles to look at him after a tragic accident, he has doubts about their future. Cam is withdrawing, and Jake doesn’t know why.

With heated arguments and cold shoulders, Cam and Jake’s life starts to fall apart. Just when Cam thinks he can overcome his issues and finally talk to Jake, memories from Jake’s past threaten to push them apart forever.

 The Excerpt…

“Jesus, Jake, you need to do something,” she blurted one night.

“Like what?” I snapped, instantly on the defensive.

“I don’t know. You’re miserable without him. Call him, talk to him. See someone else.” She paused for a long moment. “Here, give me your wallet,” Caroline demanded as she held out her hand, and confused, I pulled it from my pocket and gave it to her.

She plucked a small foil square from her purse, placed it inside, then slapped the wallet into my hand. “There. Now you can go and find someone else.”

The thought of being with someone other than Cam made me shudder, but if Cam and I couldn’t fix us, what then? I’d have to move on eventually, but Cam not being in my life hurt too much to think about. I missed him like nothing else. I missed the way we used to be, the feeling of his arms around me and the sense of safety they’d bring. I missed his shining amber eyes and the love I would see in them, just for me.

Caroline was right. I was miserable without him, to the point I didn’t recognize myself anymore. The man staring back at me in the mirror had pale sallow skin and huge sad eyes. His features were lined and haunted.

My shoulders slumped, and Caroline’s voice softened. “I know you’re hurting, and it hurts me to see you like this. Yes, Cam screwed up, but he needs you and I know you need him.”

“You’ve spoken to him.” It wasn’t a question. I knew she had, but she never mentioned the calls.

“Yes. He’s called me a few times to check on you, make sure you’re okay.”

“What, he’s checking up on me now?” Aaand… I was back on edge.

“Oh for god’s sake, Jake. You’re his life, he wants to make sure you’re okay.”

I crossed my arms.

Caroline threw her hands in the air. “Oh, for crying out loud. He’s worried about you. He always worries about you whether he needs to or not.”

“So… what? You’re taking his side now?” I couldn’t believe she’d do this, and my face flushed with my boiling blood. How could she take Cam’s side when he was the one in the wrong and she was my best friend?

“No, I’m not taking his side. I’m not taking your side either. I’m on Jake and Cam’s side. If two people were ever meant to be together, it’s you two. I saw it from the start back in college. Christ, don’t you see what you two have? You can’t throw that away. If you can’t make this work, then what’s going to happen to me?” she yelled, wiping away angry tears.

My anger fled and confusion took its place. “What do you mean? Nothing’s going to happen to you, or to us. We’ll always be here for each other.”

“You idiot, we’ll be fine,” she snorted through her tears. “I mean what will happen to me? How am I ever going to find my one and make it work if you and Cam can’t figure it out? Don’t you see what you’ve got? You found the love of your life, your other half, and you can’t tell me you’re not feeling his absence. I can see it written all over your face. You miss him.”

Seth and Casey by RJ Scott

Seth & Casey

Seth Wild is a fire fighter who has lost everything. Nearly dying in a building collapse, he is scared and angry and chases away the only good thing in his life—school teacher Casey McGuire.

When a sudden and violent snow storm hits their town he receives a message Casey and ten kids are trapped in an education center with no way out. There is no one else who can help, he’s the last fire fighter in town with his bum leg and his icy heart.

He doesn’t hesitate. He always promised he would be Casey’s hero, but will he ever again be Casey’s love?

He pushed the door shut against the howling wind and snow and stamped off his feet coming face to face with a terrified looking probie.

“We have school kids and a teacher trapped up at Shorefields,” Seth snapped out. Probie blinked at him. He recalled the guy’s name was Evan or Eben or something. And it seemed like Evan/Eben was in complete panic mode and meltdown. He glanced worriedly from side to side, like some kind of divine intervention was going to answer Seth’s statement.

“There’s no one here,” Evan/Eben said.

Seth waited for a second then exasperated that there wasn’t more of an immediate reaction he pushed past Evan/Eben and into the main area. Both trucks gone.

“I said, they’re not here, ladder one didn’t come back in from the interstate, and engine two went out to Middleton Springs. There’s been a building collapse. It’s just me.”

Seth rounded on the guy and was so close he could see the panic in blue eyes.

“Get on to other stations and call this in—“

“I can’t. Sir, we have nothing. No comms, no Internet, nothing.”

“Give me a sitrep. What’s your name? Evan? Eben?” Seth ordered.

The probie blinked at him then visibly pulled himself together. He was new since Seth had been put on leave. He’d had training, but this was probably his first real situation.

“Evan sir, Evan Pritchard. Uhmmm… Both engines out, reports of major incidents, last said the storm has taken out power. I’m alone here…” He paused. “And sir, I’m not sure what to do.”

Seth considered what he’d been told. Ten kids, Casey, Shorefields, trapped in the bus, which meant they had maybe managed to get away from Shorefields itself and had no way of getting back. He doubted they were set for extreme weather.

“Okay. I want you here. You’re not to leave and you’re to keep your eyes on comms, see if we can get more intel. I need supplies in a bag from the kitchen, water, energy bars.”

“What are you going to do?”

Seth looked directly at him. Evan needed to know where he was going. “There’s a bus load of kids trapped up at Shorefields and I’m going to help. I’m taking the Land Rover.”

He didn’t leave room for discussion, simply presented the facts a done deal. He should wait for a team, for backup, but there was nothing stopping him from getting to Jamie and the kids. And Casey.

“Yes, sir.”

They split, Seth checking the truck he was going to use, a modified vehicle capable of getting through most of the shit life could throw at it. It was equipped with most of the things he could need. Then as an afterthought, he grabbed coats from the supply room. He knew the kids would be dressed warm. After all, the whole day had been a winter experience in a beautiful place.

He was supposed to be there with Casey. He’d said he was staying at home. Time is not right to start thinking I’ve fucked up.

What did I think?

I really enjoyed this story. It appealed in a number of ways. Firstly, it was the perfect read-in-a-single-sitting book. The story was engaging and made more appealing by focusing on an existing couple. I usually find myself reading about men falling in love. Less books seem to focus on men who have been together for a while or men who have broken up. It was refreshing to read a story where the characters aren’t perfect. Life has thrown up obstacles. Emotions have run high. Relationships have suffered. While Seth and Casey deal with a huge life-threatening snowstorm, they start to open up about their feelings. I thought the reconnection of the two men was very well done.

★★★½ Orgasmic Texas Dawn by A.J. Llewellyn and D.J Manly ★★★½

Orgasmic Texas Dawn

A.J. Llewellyn and D.J. Manly

The blurb

Canadian cop Kieran Fox has fallen from grace after a disastrous romance with the wrong guy — the head of a drug cartel. When Sheriff Dillon DePriest moseys on up north — begging Kieran to come to his town of Lone Trail, Texas to help him deal with a gang of murderous drug dealers — he says yes, if only to get away from the scene of his own crime. Kieran soon learns that the tough little Texas town is knee-deep in an escalating mystery.

There’s a cross-dressing Cher impersonator, a killer missing some gold teeth and his…er…dangly bits. Then there’s Kieran’s growing attraction for Lone Pine’s sexy U.S. Marshal, Jubilee Mason, that he neither wants nor needs…

Our thoughts

I liked this but I didn’t love it as it feel like a cross between plot driven and character driven. Yes there was some instant attraction for both men but the ‘I love you’ came far too soon for me. Some parts felt a little confusing and there were times that I couldn’t make out who’s POV it supposed to be.

They’re are the only negatives I have. I enjoyed the plot with the murders and drug running and all the little ‘small Texas town’ idiosyncrasies.  Jubilee is firmly in the closet and Keiren is determined not to mix business with pleasure again – but of course they end up in bed anyway.

“I don’t think I could crawl into bed one more time without you in it. I want you so much, I ache all over. I can’t sleep for thinking you’ll grow tired of waiting for my sorry ass. I almost died thinking something would happen to you. How the hell have you been able to weave such a spell over me in this short a time”

I liked the relationship between Jubilee and the town’s Sheriff Dillon, they didn’t work that well together and kept important case information to themselves, even though they were working on the same case. But outside of work they got on well and were even fishing buddies.

I liked Keiren, trying to keep the local ladies away without being too much of an ass, especially when Jubilee’s sister invites him over for a dinner date – with Jubilee there too. Was not a comfortable situation.

There are currently 13 books to this series but I don’t think that they’re all about Jubilee and Kieren – although I think most of them are.  Will I continue with the series?  I’ll definately read book #2 as I’d like to see where these two hunky men go.

The blurb

Jesse can do the math: Ezra’s perfect, he isn’t, and this relationship is doomed. Until the accident forces Jesse to recalculate.

Jesse has never had a real boyfriend before. He’s a firefighter, and that’s all that anyone’s seen before—a quick and thrilling screw, and a story for the future. So when he lands Ezra Pryce, the most beautiful man in the whole of Brighton, Jesse can’t quite understand why Ezra is still here eight months down the line.

Not that he’s going to complain. Ezra’s sexy, sarcastic, and doesn’t treat Jesse like he’s stupid, but Jesse can do the math. Ezra is nothing short of perfection; and Jesse falls a very way short of it. Jesse isn’t going to be enough for someone like Ezra in the long run, and he is living—and loving—on borrowed time. When a disastrous weekend in Norwich introduces Jesse to the staunch disapproval of Ezra’s family and the six-pack of his ex-boyfriend in one fell swoop, Jesse’s fate is sealed. He cannot hope to live up to an ex who has every intention of getting Ezra back, and all the looks and charm to do it too. Jesse is not enough for Ezra and he’s never going to be.

Our thoughts

This was my first time reading this author and I have to say I am really glad I gave this book a try.  it was unique in that it started with an already established couple which I though was a nice change.  When the story starts Ezra and Jessie have been together 8 months.  Ezra is a school teacher and Jessie is a firefighter.  They have a stable relationship but are not yet living together.  Despite their stability both men are struggling with issues of their own.  Ezra has a mother and a sister who have not accepted his homosexuality and Jessie’s background still effects his self image and self worth.  As the story unfolds the two men are forced to deal with their issues and try to strengthen their relationship along the way.
What I really liked about this book was not a lot happened and yet I couldn’t put it down.  Don’t get me wrong, things happened, but no big, dramatic, angst filled events.  Just, for the most part, normal events.  The strength to me was that the author showed me two people working through every day life events and every day struggles and he still kept me up late turning the pages.
I loved both Ezra and Jessie’s characters and I thought they were really well done.  All of the side characters were also well done and I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a character as much as I did Ezra’s sister.  What a vile creature.  The romance felt real and while the sex scenes were minimal it worked for this story.  I found myself rooting for these two and their happily ever after.
Overall I though this was a really well done book.  The writing was strong, the characters drew me in and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.  I would recommend this book to others and I will definitely be checking out more of this author’s work.

Hope you enjoy – Alisa x

BLOG TOUR, EXCERPT and GIVEAWAY: Diversion by Eden Winters

Diversion (2nd Edition)

by Eden Winters

Publisher:  Rocky Ridge Books

Cover Artist:  L.C. Chase

The Blurb…

There are good guys, bad guys, and then there’s Lucky.

Former drug trafficker Richmond “Lucky” Lucklighter flaunts his past like a badge of honor. He speaks his mind, doesn’t play nice, and flirts with disaster while working off his sentence with the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau. If he can keep out of trouble a while longer he’ll be a free man–after he trains his replacement.

Textbook-quoting, by the book Bo Schollenberger is everything Lucky isn’t. Lucky slurps coffee, Bo lives caffeine free. Lucky worships bacon, Bo eats tofu. Lucky trusts no one, Bo calls suspects by first name. Yet when the chips are down on their shared case of breaking up a drug diversion ring, they may have more in common than they believe.

Two men. Close quarters. Friction results in heat. But Lucky scoffs at partnerships, no matter how thrilling the roller-coaster. Bo has two months to break down Lucky’s defenses… and seconds are ticking by.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00023]

The door flew open and Lucky made a grab. He rammed Bo’s back against the wall, setting off an automated hand dryer. Lucky ignored the hot air wafting over his arm, slammed his mouth hard against Bo’s, and shoved his leg between the man’s thighs. They devoured each other’s mouths, no hesitant tender kiss, but a release of tightly coiled passion. Tongues intertwined, each man sifted fingers through the other’s hair, tugging closer.

Below their belts their bodies followed suit, Lucky rutting against Bo’s firm thigh in an old-as-time mating rhythm. I’m going to blow in my jeans and I don’t give a fuck.

Lucky’s overwhelmed brain yielded up a single clear warning: someone might walk in. Mouths joined, he danced them toward a stall without breaking contact. A condom machine hung on the wall at an awkward angle. A handwritten sign proclaimed, “Out of Order.” Damn it!

At this rate, he wouldn’t last long enough to wrap his meat anyway. He wrestled them both into a stall, and slammed and locked the door behind him.

★★★★★ Continental Divide by Laura Harner and Lisa Worrall★★★★★

It’s Throwback Thursday so you might want to check out this oldie but a goodie!

Continental Divide

Laura Harner and Lisa Worrall

First Published March 2012

The blurb…

Detective Remington frickin’ hates the missing persons detail, but a cold fury builds in the pit of his stomach when he realizes that over the past three months six boys have disappeared from the smaller communities that surround the greater Phoenix area. All reported to be runaways looking to escape their shitty lives, but Remy’s starting to put together a different picture and he doesn’t like it one damn bit.

Inspector Jamie Mainwaring stares at the six reports, willing them to make sense. Six boys, six months, all from just outside of London, which meant six different investigations. All of the boys were between the ages of ten and fifteen, all purportedly runaways from dysfunctional families. Something was rotten in Denmark.

There are always runaways. Every small town loses them—every big city collects them. Kids look for freedom and discover they have more to lose than they ever thought possible. London and Phoenix, culture and cowboys, nothing linking these two sprawling metropolitan areas. Nothing except a hit on a computer data search.

Two cops, one a cowboy, the other a Lord. A secret government agency, human trafficking, and a blazing hot mutual distraction.

What the hell have Remington and Mainwaring gotten themselves into?

So what did Robyn think?

I really enjoyed this. It was a bit similar to the Cut & Run series in that two alpha cops team up and hate each other on site but end up fucking anyway. That was about the only similarity.

They both fall for each other but Remy won’t ever admit it. He’s does anonymous fucks and never face to face. Remy has a story but we don’t know about it. It’s hinted that he was sexually abused and lived on the streets, probably selling himself for food, but its only hinted at. Maybe his story will come in the next instalment. Jamie on the other hand knows what he wants. He wants Remy.

When they come together it’s sweet and hot but of course Remy basically does a runner – emotionally at least. Remy realises he has these feeling for Jamie but being the alpha male he is never says anything. And of course neither does Jamie. Their relationship is full of no talking angst. But I guess if they spoke about their feeling and what they wanted then there wouldn’t be story.

The crime bit was quite well done. You always know who’s behind it so it’s no mystery but it was well played out.

Be warned though, there is no HEA here. Not even a HFN. This makes me mad and sad at the same time.

I heard that there were going to be 4 books in this series, but only 3 released so far. I’ve read the reviews for the next two and I know that if they ever get their HEA (coz lets face it, these two just belong together) it doesn’t happen until the forth. Now the question is – as a lover of HEA’s, can I wait FOUR books to get it? Or do I abandon this series now? I will probably read the next instalments but will wait until I can read the review for book 4.

Hope you enjoy – Robyn x

BLOG TOUR with GIVEAWAY and excerpt! Secret Fire by Morticia Knight

Secret Fire (Uniform Encounters 5)

by Morticia Knight

Cover Artist: Posh Gosh

Publisher: Totally Bound

The Blurb

Police officer Zach and Fire Marshal Daryl would be perfect together—if they would ever quit fighting long enough to find out. A devastating fire and the secret behind it almost keeps them from getting what they really need—each other.

Mesa police officer Zach is a fun-loving guy. Now that he’s hit the big three-oh, he’s looking to stop the hook-up train and find someone he can get serious about. When a mutual friend suggests Fire Marshal Daryl, Zach assumes he must be joking. The surly marshal has given cranky a new meaning. It’s unfortunate, though, since he is one fine-looking man.

Daryl has sworn off relationships ever since he caught his ex-partner cheating. He’s always taken everything in life seriously—from jobs to relationships—and is afraid he might be alone in that regard. Certain he can’t risk love again, he panics when he sees his secret crush Zach approaching him at a police versus firemen softball game. He’s nervous, as he is socially challenged with a tendency to blurt out the wrong things. It gets worse when he realises their shared buddy gave Zach a push. He assumes that Zach is only talking to him out of pity.

Zach has been pissed off at Daryl ever since they got into a verbal sparring match at the park. Yet, when Daryl comes to his aid during an explosive fire, Zach wonders what secrets might be hidden beneath the layers Daryl has built to protect himself from the world—and love. A night of passion turns into the possibility of something more as they struggle to find their way to one another. But all of that is threatened when there is a devastating fire that causes many people to lose their lives. As they work together to uncover the truth, someone thinks they’ve asked too many questions—and plans to stop them before they can ask any more.

An Excerpt

Daryl picked at the blanket, relieved that Zach had enjoyed it, but there was still something nagging at him.

Daryl glanced up to see Zach staring, his lips pursed.

“I know you, Daryl. What’s bothering you?”

Daryl cast his eyes down.

“Daryl, look at me. Talking, remember?”

He met Zach’s eyes again. “Yeah, we should talk about this. At one point when I put the ice on you, you yelled for me to stop. I wanted to keep going anyway because I knew what the pay-off would be.”

“You’ve had that done to you before?”

He frowned. “No, I just figured the sensations would be incredibly intense.”

“Yeah. That’s for sure.”

“But what I’m getting at is that I kept going and you had no way of stopping me since I had you tied up. I don’t want to go too far, or do anything that you hate. I think we should have an agreement as to how I would know to really stop if you wanted me to.”

He watched as an expression of understanding crossed Zach’s face.

“Oh, my God. You want me to have a safe word? No way. I thought you said you weren’t a Dom.”

Daryl scowled at him. “This has nothing to do with being a Dom or anything like that. It’s about you feeling comfortable with me so that you can relax and enjoy yourself. It’s about you knowing there’s always a way to stop me even if you can’t physically do it. I think that would enhance things between us even more.”

Zach rolled onto his side and moved in to kiss Daryl. It was soft and sensual, and Daryl thought he might be able to happily drown in it. Zach broke their connection and rubbed his nose against Daryl’s. He drew back enough so that Daryl could see the expression in his eyes.

“I…” Zach swallowed as if he had just caught himself. “You’re an amazing guy. I’m very lucky to have you in my life.”

Daryl grunted. “I’m the lucky one. However, I’m serious about this. Think about what word you would use and before I tie you up again I want to know what it is, okay?”

“Yes, Master.” Zach snickered.

“Knock it off, will ya?”

“You’re not the only one who likes to tease.”

★★★★★ Private Dicks (Private Dicks #1) by Katie Allen ★★★★★

It’s Throwback Thursday so you might want to check out this ripper!

Private Dicks

Private Dicks

Katie Allen

First published April 2009 by Ellora’s Cave

The blurb:

Ex-cop Isaac Rhodes is a tough and intimidating private investigator with a talent for kicking in doors and knocking bail jumpers’ heads together. His only soft spot is for his partner, Nate Washington—though Wash makes him anything but soft. He’s silently lusted after Wash for a year, until his desire drives him to finally come out to his partner.

This confession leads to Wash admitting a few secrets of his own, unleashing needs that result in hot, sweaty, sexy, man-on-man intimacy. Rhodes is elated…until Wash admits he’s unsure if he’s willing to endure the often prejudice-filled life of an outed gay man. Crushed, Rhodes backs off. But one missing child—and a gun to Wash’s head—convinces Rhodes to do whatever it takes to get his man.

So what did Robyn think?

Given the title and cover you’d be mistaken thinking this was a PWP (porn without plot)  It’s not. It’s freaking perfect!!!

Think about this:

  • Two hot MC’s? Check
  • A crimey type plot? Check
  • Enough sex to cover the storyline without going overboard? Check
  • Just a hint of angsty romance? Check
  • Humour to boot? Check and double check.

Fantastic!! I loved both MC’s immensely, especially Wash coz he was unapologetic with everyone. I didn’t like what he did to Isaac initially but he made up for it in the end. Poor Isaac was a bit here and there with Wash but I understood him not wanting to appear desperate and needy. The crimey plot was well done too. Not over the top action, just enough realism for this to be a fantastic light read.

Recommended to all.

Hope you enjoy – Robyn x

A Reason To Stay

A Reason to Stay

by  R.J. Scott

My rating: 4 stars

The Blurb…

When SEAL, Viktor Zavodny, left small town America for the Navy he made sure he never had a reason to return for anything other than visiting family. He wanted to see the world and fight for his country and nothing, or no one, was getting in his way. He fights hard, and plays harder, and a succession of men and women share his bed.

But a phone call from his sister has him using his thirty day down time to go home instead of enjoying his usual thirty nights of random sex and sleep.

What he finds is a mystery on the Green Mountains and the only man attempting to make sense of seemingly unrelated deaths. His childhood friend and first love… Lieutenant Aiden Coleman, Sheriff.

There were reasons Viktor left his home. Not least Aiden Coleman with his small town innocence and his dreams of forever. Now Adam and Viktor need to work together to save lives and prove there is a hero in all of us.

When it’s done, if they make it out alive, can Aiden persuade Viktor that he has a reason to stay? Maybe forever?

So what did I think?

I thoroughly enjoyed a A Reason To Stay which has set the standard for another great series by RJ Scott.

There are a couple of elements to this story.

Firstly, it is a mystery. Something strange is happening up the mountain and Viktor, Navy SEAL, is going to find out exactly what it is and why his nephew ended up in a coma in hospital. His family is at risk and he will do everything and anything to protect them.

It is a romance, a story of second and third chances. Viktor and Aiden (who is now working in law enforcement) knew each other in high school, where Aiden had long term expectations. Years later when they reconnect, he still loves Viktor. But Viktor is a man haunted by his belief that as a SEAL he can’t offer anything to anyone. He runs. It takes the threat to his family to bring Viktor and Aiden together again as they put their lives at risk to solve the mystery.

This is a story with lots of drama and action– murder, villains and true hero moments– but also soul searching as Aiden and Viktor fight their attraction to each other. The sex is super hot and the ending fabulous– i just love big moments that make people face the truth!

I enjoyed the blend of mystery and romance and the pacing of the book. Sure, at moments Viktor annoyed the hell out of me but the happy ending for these heroes was definitely worth it.

I am now very much looking forward to the second book, Last Marine Standing, due to be released in June, which gives us Sam’s story.

A copy of this book was received from the author with no expectations of a review.

Happy reading,
