I love him…but he’s forgotten why.

A lot can happen in six years, and Ash and Pete have seen their world flipped upside down more times than most. Being parents to Pete’s young nephew wasn’t in their plan, but life happens to them and they roll with the punches. Or at least they did, until new heartache rocks their hard-won happily-ever-after.

Ash loves Pete as much as ever—more, in fact—but Pete battles alone with a burden that weighs heavily on his heart. Ash is no stranger to dark clouds, but the secret Pete keeps from him is a storm that could break them.

Despite the fierce love that once buoyed them, they’re both drowning until a new friend throws them a lifeline. His wisdom offers insight—for better or worse, real love is rarely a smooth journey. For Ash and Pete to come full circle once more, they’ll have to hit the road and chase it.

Excerpt

Okay, so feline-themed clubs were definitely not my bag, but I couldn’t deny that it felt amazing to be out and proud with Ash. I sank into a couple of beers, and the dark cloud that had become my constant companion lifted a touch, chased away by neon lights, glitter, and the swathes of naked man skin all around us.

Not that I took much notice of any man but Ash. He was never going to take his shirt off in public, but he didn’t need to. The fucker turned heads wherever he went, and the fact that he had no idea made me love him even more.

Made me want him even more.

We didn’t dance. Ever. But clubs had always made us horny in the past, and this one was no exception. The music ramped up and the heat seeped into us. The crowds thickened, pushing us ever closer. I pressed myself tight against Ash, so absorbed in him that I forgot to glare at anyone who dared look his way, and backed him into a nearby wall. “I like this club.”

“Yeah?” Ash hadn’t touched any booze, but his face was as flushed as mine felt, his eyes as hooded, and his skin jumped when I slid my hands beneath his T-shirt and over his chest. He licked his lips. “Do you think we’re gonna be here long?”

I doubted it, and it wouldn’t be the first time we’d cut loose early to run home and bang. But we weren’t at home now, and as I kissed Ash, it occurred to me that we’d never fucked anywhere that wasn’t our home. If tonight went the way most of our club adventures had before, where would it end? Would Ash fuck me in a hotel? I honestly had no idea. And whose fault is that? If I’d come with him when he’d first started traveling two years ago, I’d know, and perhaps would have even persuaded him that we could fuck anywhere we damn well pleased.

We kissed for hours in the club. The fact that Ash made no move to hustle me out clued me in to how he felt about banging in our hotel room, but I didn’t let that stop me enjoying him. Because, fuck, I’d missed him, even though he’d been right there from the moment I’d met him. Ash was my home, my family, my everything. We didn’t need to screw for me to know that.

Levi Ramone entered the gay porn market for one reason, and one reason only: he needed the cash to pay his momma’s spiraling gambling debts.

Seven years later, he’s a veteran with a reputation as one of Blue Boy Studio’s most ruthless tops, and when his boss suggests it’s time for a change, he finds himself staring down the barrel of a gun. Figuratively speaking, at least.

Enter Sonny Valentine, a go-go dancer at Blue’s sister club, Silver’s. Levi has secretly admired Sonny from afar for years, but there’s a problem. He can’t stand Sonny and the feeling is entirely mutual. When Levi learns Sonny is to play the third part in a scene he already considers his worst nightmare, he figures things can’t get any worse.

But when preparations for the scene from hell collide with tragic events in his personal life, he finds his fast-growing, red-hot attraction to Sonny just might be the only thing left between him and a bullet.

INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Garrett Leigh

Thanks for joining us today, Garrett. We are excited to have you here as you celebrate the release of Rare on audio book.

GLBanner300x250

Can you share with us a little bit about the process of having a book made into an audio book?

Garrett: To be honest, I didn’t have much to do with the production, bar auditioning the narrators, which was horrible. Let me explain, you see, hearing your sex scenes read out by anyone is a skin crawling experience, but it’s far, far worse when it’s the wrong voice doing it. It took a very long time to find the right dude for this series, especially as the books are told in dual POV, so I had to find a voice that suited Ash AND Pete. It was hard, really hard, but I’m glad I persevered and Andrew Grey at Dreamspinner was so patient with me. I think it helps that he’s an author himself, so he understood why I was being such a pain in the arse 😛

I was reading a review of Rare and the reviewer made a comment that the book was a rollercoaster of emotion “Fear. Hope. Frustration. Love. Grief. Loss. Anger. Joy.”  Were you concerned this emotion would be difficult to capture in the audio version of the book? With this in mind, how did you select your narrator?

Garrett: For me, the tone of the narrator was very important. I auditioned about fifteen guys, and only the last one…a dude Andrew Grey thought of at the last moment (when I’d pulled most of my hair out) had the right depth. You see, I wanted a deep voice, but not so deep that it made the characters sound too old. I had to constantly remind myself that Ash and Pete are both relatively young.

We’ve just started a new year. Do you have anything special that you’ll be focusing on this year? What can your readers expect next?

Garrett: This year, I’m hoping to add to my Heated Beat series, and perhaps write another military novel. I also want to explore the MMF genre too. And perhaps a little dabble in YA. This year seems to be full of ideas for me, I just need to write the fuckers down.

Do you listen to audio books yourself? If so, can you recommend a favourite?

Garrett: I haven’t actually ever listened to an audio book, not even my own. I’m pretty sure I’d cue one up and immediately fall asleep. I know some folk listen to them in the car, but I’m a terrible driver as it is. Can you imagine trying to reverse park during a smexin’ scene? *shudders*

Thanks so much for joining us, Garrett. I’m actually a fan of audio books so I’ll definitely be checking this one out. I’ll just make sure I don’t do any reverse parking! 🙂

Blurb

Paramedic Pete Adams lived through the year from hell watching his lover, Ash, fall apart, and the precarious balance between work and home is becoming more strained. His heart is always home, with Ash, but the dark side to his job is weighing him down.

Tattoo artist Ash Fagin is recovering from a nervous breakdown triggered by revelations about his traumatic childhood. His battle with mental illness is far from over, but with Pete by his side, he’s feeling good again, so good he doesn’t notice something missing until it walks right into his living room.

Ash believes he’s had enough coincidence in his life, but when a voice from the past comes looking for him, it takes the devastating injuries of the one he loves most to convince him to let a ghost become the family he never knew he wanted.

Excerpt

PETE HAD been busy while I’d been gone. I stood in front of the shiny new door to his apartment and wondered for a moment if I’d come home to the right place. Then I remembered the coarse message he’d sent me a few days ago, telling me in no uncertain terms what a bitch the new door had been to fit. A separate message—perhaps an afterthought—told me he’d left a key on top of the frame.

I reached for it and turned it over in my hand. It was silver and shiny. The old one was battered brass, bruised and familiar. It felt heavy in my pocket as I slid the new key into the lock. I considered the fate of the old key now that the door it belonged to was no longer there. Pete said I pondered the strangest things.

The new door swung open with a whisper. It felt odd after two years with a door that crunched like a gearbox. The new door was like a ghost, all shimmery and silent. I wasn’t sure I liked it.

A wry grin crept over my face. Really? Four days without Pete and you’re worried about a door? I took a tentative step forward. The door closed with a quiet click, and this time, I paid it no heed.

I glanced around the apartment. It was quiet and still. No TV, stereo, or signs of life. That was no surprise. I was a few hours early. Despite hating every moment of the flight between Chicago and Philadelphia, I’d caught an earlier plane home. Pete wasn’t expecting me, but I could feel in my bones that he was home. The invisible cord between us pulled me along, and a minute later, I found him passed out in our bed. He was asleep on his stomach, something he only did when he was alone or too tired to notice. It used to make me uneasy—sometimes it still did—but not today. Today his bare back was exactly what I needed to see. I sat down by his head and brushed my fingers over his stubbly jaw. He didn’t stir, even when I leaned down and breathed in the clean smell of his skin.

⌚⌚ Time for a coffee and a quick read? ⌚⌚

Need something quick to read? Below are a couple of short stories, that can be read in under 30 minutes or so. And they cost less than your cup of coffee! I hope you enjoy!

Gypsy RainGypsy Rain by Garrett Leigh

My rating: 4.5  of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Cornish fudge maker Seb Wright is anticipating and dreading the upcoming tourist season with equal measure. The cash injection is more than welcome, the long hours in the sticky, vanilla scented kitchen less so.

A few days into the first tentative sparks of summer a shadowy Good Samaritan catches his eye. Vagrant Dex is a new face in town…a beautiful, sullen enigma, and yet with each busy day that passes, Seb finds himself becoming more and more attracted to the mysterious, young man.

A young man who seems destined to become the heartbeat of a summer he’ll never forget.

So what did I think?

Short but oh, so sweet! This is a beautifully written story.

It is a gentle story that provides a glimpse into the life of Seb, who owns a fudge shop and Dex, a young man who enters his life for a short time.

The author does a wonderful job of describing the setting for the story. It is beautifully descriptive and makes it so easy to imagine the small town of Padstow in Cornwall. There is a real sense of the place and people. Likewise with Seb – although a short story, there is a real feel for the type of man Seb is and of the life he leads.

Seb is intrigued by the quiet and vulnerable Dex and over many weeks they develop a unique friendship. We don’t learn a lot about Dex and even at the end of the story he is still a mystery. “Dex was like a short summer rain: heady, unexpected and all too rare.”

There is no happy ending in the traditional sense, more a reinforcement that some people can enter your life for a short period and touch deeply. “….and as the fast-breaking dawn light crept into the sky, he felt blessed, like he’d been touched by an angel.”

I also adored the cover of this book. It is gorgeous! The author is obviously very talented as she is credited with being the cover artist too!

I will definitely be checking out more work by this author and would love to see a full length novel. Perhaps Seb could get his HEA?

The Blurb…

In this short story, David and Sam are scientists working together on a cure for cancer while struggling to keep their personal lives and relationships intact. When they make a massive breakthrough, they find there are forces at work who don’t want the research to proceed. Facing a choice between his life’s work and the man who has stood at his side, what will David choose to protect?

So what did I think?

This was a freebie so really can’t complain too much! This was one of those stories that had so much potential but didn’t quite follow through.

The story revolves around a scientific research team who are working on a cure for cancer. Leading the team is David and his assistant is Sam. Sam is secretly in love with David. David has a girlfriend who he eventually breaks up with but has no idea that Sam is interested in him. There is some scientific espionage which adds the drama element.

There is a lot packed into a short story but somehow things lost their way as the story came to it’s conclusion. For example, one of the researchers is suddenly revealed to be undercover cop but with no real shock to the revelation and it doesn’t seem very believable. David’s reasons for being with his girlfriend are all over the place. And when David and Sam get together it just happens quickly with no real discussion, just a sudden dropping of pants – one minute talking, the next minute sex!

Maybe this story would have been better as a full length novel, with proper time devoted to the complexities of the story. But I liked it enough to want to check out some other stories by this author.
