Collars & Cuffs #6

by  KC Wells

Blurb

Anyone who frequents Collars & Cuffs knows Dorian Forrester is built for pain, including Dorian himself. But everyone has it wrong. For six years, Dorian’s chased a feeling that remains tantalizingly out of his reach. Unteachable, Dorian can take anything and everything a Dom can throw at him. Still, it’s not enough. Dorian needs… something more. Something he won’t find at Collars & Cuffs.

Dorian’s search takes him out of the safe environment he’s known for years, out of his depth, and into a realm of deep, dark trouble.

Alan Marchant has been watching Dorian with interest for a while and knows there’s more to Dorian than his label of “pain slut” suggests. When Dorian disappears, Alan and his friend Leo set out to find him. But the disoriented young man discovered cowering in a hotel room is not the Dorian they know and love. That Dorian is shattered. It’s up to Alan to pick up the pieces and show Dorian there are better ways to fly.

They may be off on a new journey together, but their destination will rock them both to the core.

Exclusive Excerpt

Alan had given the matter some serious thought as he’d lain there in the early morning light, Dorian’s even breaths the only sound in the quiet hotel room. It hadn’t taken him long to reach a conclusion. Once they got back to Manchester, Alan had a job to do.

He was going to help Dorian put his life back together.

But there was a way to go before he could accomplish that. Alan had seen enough in his life to recognize the signs. Experience had taught him that there were five stages to go through when dealing with loss or grief. And Dorian was dealing with loss. Whatever had happened to him at that party had robbed him of something vital. The spark that was pure Dorian was missing, and Alan wanted it back.

Dorian was at stage one, that of denial. Okay, so speaking clearly brought him pain, but even without that physical hindrance, Alan knew instinctively that Dorian did not want to talk or even think about what had taken place. And he knew what came next—isolation. Not that he intended to let Dorian get far with that.

I’ll be damned if I’ll let you crawl into a corner and shut me out, boy. The fact that he’d cuddled up to Alan’s back during the night had filled him with hope. Since they’d got up, however, Dorian had kept himself at a distance, shying away from any attempt to get physically close to him. That was nothing new. At the club, Dorian wasn’t into displays of affection. Alan had racked his brains, trying to remember if he’d ever seen Dorian in anyone’s embrace. It was something of a shock to realize he’d never seen anyone hold the lad. Then he thought about Dorian’s manner with people, the way he kept them at arm’s length.

Why don’t you let people in, Dorian?

There was obviously a lot more to the submissive than met the eye, and Alan felt like an archaeologist who’d surveyed a promising outcrop and realized there was definitely something of interest below the surface. And Alan had every intention of painstakingly removing the earth, layer by layer, until he’d revealed what lay hidden.

I want to see the real Dorian. Because he was convinced no one had even glimpsed the treasure that lay buried beneath that facade.

Excerpt:

How the hell did Jeff get under my skin so quickly?

I found myself worrying about the boy. What was he doing at that moment? And was it something that could get him hurt?

Late that afternoon, the heavens opened and the rain came down in a deluge. I left my chair and my warm fire and stood by the window, watching the rain hit the pavement with such force it bounced up a few feet. Jeff was out in this somewhere. I hoped to God he had sense enough to duck indoors. But as the evening wore on and there was no sign of Jeff, I resigned myself to the fact he wasn’t coming back.

I made myself dinner and then sat down by the fire, a glass of wine in hand. I glanced at the chair where Jeff had sat. Had it only been twenty- four hours since he’d been brought here? I tried not to look at the clock, but my gaze kept swiveling in its direction. The sound of the rain grew louder. It was a miserable night.

Six o’clock arrived. The TV was silent, my laptop on but closed. I hadn’t had the heart to do any work.

Just get on with something. And don’t think about what he’s doing out there. You gave him a chance, didn’t you?

Parker Williams:

Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family.

Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

Love and the Real Boy

(Coming About #2)

by

J.K. Hogan

Cover Artist: JK Hogan (KHDGraphics.com)

Publisher: Wilde City Press

Blurb:

How much heartache can one man take before he breaks? Rich Langston asks himself that question every day.

A Seattle advertising exec who uses his designer suit and showy car like a suit of armor, Rich refuses to let the world get to him. His traumatic childhood has ruined any faith he had in people, friendship, and love. After a meltdown that led to him alienating everyone in his life, Rich agrees to help with the restoration of an antique sailboat as a form of penance.

Roped into heading up with the boat repair by his mother, marine restorer Patrick O’Dowd finds himself having to babysit a moody, spoiled rich boy with absolutely no carpentry experience. His easy-going nature is sorely tested, but he quickly realizes that things are not always what they seem; sometimes a fancy suit is nothing but an elaborate deflection from what’s real.

Through unavoidable personality clashes and fierce attraction, both Rich and Patrick explore their hidden pain and inner demons, and they end up finding with what really matters—love.

Hogan600x600Banner

Excerpt:

Rich forced himself to relax. Why shouldn’t he give his brain a little mini-vacay? He was of a stressful nature—he had to constantly stress over work, over making enough money to keep himself in suits and expensive toys to remind himself he wasn’t homeless anymore, that he wasn’t going to end up like his mother. He stressed over the wrong people finding out he was gay, while stressing that he might just go mad from lack of companionship—and that was just the tip of the crazy-berg.

Underneath it all sat his pent-up grief, anger, and guilt from his stolen childhood, cowering like a beast in the dark, a sleeping monster. That was Rich’s biggest, most constant fear—that one day he would no longer be able to contain it. What would happen then? Would he lose his mind?

So all things considered, why shouldn’t he just let it go for one night? What was wrong with letting a big, burly Irishman take him in hand—heh—and drive the boat for a while.

Excerpt

Damian

I LOVED it when it was evening and all was quiet and peaceful. No traffic noise intruded into the house, and in the lounge, the only sound was the slow ticking of the clock on the mantelpiece. Give me a mechanical clock any day. Not that I had anything against more modern timepieces, but there was something soothing about the sound. The clock had been my grandmother’s, and I took loving care of it, making sure it was oiled and wound. Right then my evening was perfect: the tick of the clock, a glass of Cabernet on the table next to me, and a worn, hardcover Sherlock Holmes novel in my hands. I’d lost count of how many times I’d read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but re-reading a favorite book was a warm, comforting experience. The wine created a warm glow inside me. I took another sip.

And then my phone rang.

The temptation to ignore its clamoring call was huge. I was happy, comfortable, and anyone ringing me at home during the evening had to want something. All my friends knew my routines, especially since Oliver….

I closed my eyes. I could almost hear that edge of amusement in his voice. “You going to answer that, Sir?” And yes, I could see the gleam in his eye as he awaited my reaction, tense in nervous anticipation. Brat loved pushing my buttons. With a sigh, I picked up the call.

“Damian? It’s Leo. We need your help.”

I placed the wine on the table. “What can I do for you?” My interest was piqued immediately. It had been quite a while since the co-owner of my BDSM club had called me at home.

“Sorry to disturb you, but you were the first person I could think of. We have a boy. He’s nineteen, and he needs help.”

Final Exam

(Learning to Love #4)

by

K.C. Wells

Cover Artist: Paul Richmond

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Blurb:

One house, three couples, and one year left until their final exams….

Evan and Daniel want to take their D/s relationship to the next level. When Daniel suggests conducting a little research at a BDSM club, Evan is more than up for it. Trouble is, one of their housemates isn’t happy about this.

Finances tighten for new couple Josh and Chris. Wanting to ease some of the pressure on Chris, Josh starts as an agency nurse. But tackling a heavy workload at medical school and working late-shifts leaves little time for the couple. Something’s gotta give.

In Spain, Sean was diagnosed as suffering from migraines. But after the medications have no effect and he starts suffering from other complaints, he decides to get a second opinion without telling Michael. When Michael finds out, Sean’s usually laid-back husband’s reaction shocks everyone. But Michael needs to get his head sorted fast, because Sean needs his strength.

As their school career comes to a close and the one person who holds them all together starts to fall apart, the final exam is a true test of friendship.

FinalExam600x600Banner

Excerpt:

SEAN WAS getting really fed up with his housemates.

Ever since he and Michael had got back from Spain, the four men had turned into mother hens. Sean was constantly aware of them watching him. At least, it felt like they were. When he’d brought it up, Michael had said he was imagining things, but then again, Michael was guilty of the same thing in Sean’s book. He knew Michael was keeping a close eye on him. Sean hadn’t said a word. These days, he didn’t trust himself to do so without biting Michael’s head off, and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

Okay, so I’ve had a few migraines. Why the scrutiny all the time?

He loved his housemates to bits, but recently he’d found himself snapping at them on occasion, and that just wasn’t like him. He could see the same thought in Michael’s eyes and that hurt. He hated it when Michael worried, especially if he was the cause.

He wanted to scream at them all.

Look, I’m fine! It’s just a few fucking HEADACHES, that’s all!

He wouldn’t, of course, tempting though the idea was. And besides, there was that tiny voice in his head that wouldn’t go away.

What if it’s more than just headaches? What if there’s something else wrong?

At first he’d pushed the thought aside. He’d been to the doctors in Spain, hadn’t he? The doc had been perfectly happy with his diagnosis of migraines

Only now the headaches were occurring more regularly, which was worrisome. The fact that his bloody pills were useless wasn’t helping either.

Then DO something. Get another opinion.

Now that made sense.

Sean picked up his phone and scrolled through his contacts to the clinic where he and Michael got tested every few months.

The sooner he got this sorted, the happier he’d be. And maybe then his housemates would stop mothering him.

He listened for a moment. Michael was downstairs in the kitchen with Chris, Evan, and Daniel. Josh was at the hospital. If Michael knew he was making an appointment, he’d only worry even more.

So that meant only one course of action—Sean wasn’t going to tell him. He’d go see another doctor, see if there were any tests they could run, and maybe get some medication that actually worked. He glanced at the notice board where his and Michael’s timetables were pinned. Being on the same course had its drawbacks, especially if he wanted to book an appointment when Michael wouldn’t be around. The only time available was when Michael saw his personal tutor. At least the clinic was on campus, but he might have to book it a week or two in advance to be sure of getting the slot he wanted.

And if he were completely honest, Sean was starting to get concerned. He rarely got sick, he ate healthily—Michael made sure of that—he didn’t smoke, and his alcohol intake amounted to a couple of glasses of wine per week. So putting up with headaches was pissing him off.

Make the call, Sean. While Michael’s not in earshot.

Sighing, he pressed Connect.

What did we think?

I’ve always enjoyed this series so have a definite soft spot for the characters. This is one of those books that really feels like it has been written for the fans. The series has followed the journey of three couples who share the same house. This book, gives us a little something about everyone so if you have a favourite couple, you’ll get to spend more time with them here.

As with the earlier books, the story has some drama – in this case, I saw this one coming 🙂 – plus lots of loving. This is the  sweet and supportive kind of loving with lots of sex thrown in! Things wrap up nicely for the characters and you get a definite sense that these guys are all going to be okay.

There’s some nice cross-over with K.C. Wells other series which is a nice touch for fans of those series too (Collars & Cuffs + Love Lessons Learned). You can find other reviews for books from these series on the blog.

If you enjoyed the earlier books in the series, you’ll really enjoy this one.

A Dance with Domination

by K.C. Wells

Cover Artist: Paul Richmond

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

The Blurb…

DancewithDomination[A]LG

Recently returned to the UK after living in the States since he was eleven, Andrew Barrett is determined to keep busy and make a new life for himself. He works full time as a copywriter and strips at a club on Canal Street on weekends. But it still leaves him too much time to think. Then he finds the BDSM club, Collars & Cuffs, where at twenty-nine, he is their youngest Dom. Young doesn’t mean inexperienced, however. All this activity keeps him focused with no time to dwell on the past. But the past has a way of intruding on the present.

It’s been four long years since Gareth Michaels last set foot inside Collars & Cuffs. But when he finally summons his courage and steps back into his former world, he finds the man who drove him away is still a member, and what’s more, he wants Gareth back. Two men in pain need the freedom they find in each other, but it takes another man’s horrific plans to make them see it.

An excerpt…

Gareth has just gone back to Collars & Cuffs for the first time in four years.
GARETH’S HEART quaked as he watched Craig approach. The Dom had changed very little in the intervening four years, except that maybe there was a sprinkling of more gray hair at his temples. His black shirt stretched tight across his wide frame, and at five feet eleven, arms thick with muscle, eyes the color of stone, Craig was still an imposing figure.
Gareth held himself very still as Craig came to a halt in front of him. Those eyes perused him, no warmth in them.
“You’re back. It’s been a while.” The words were delivered in a flat tone. Gareth thought bitterly that no one hearing them would ever guess at the relationship that had once existed between them. Well, I thought you were a cold-hearted bastard four years ago, and you haven’t improved with age.
“Yes, Sir,” Gareth said quietly. He kept his back straight, unwilling to give Craig the satisfaction of seeing him shiver. Just looking at Craig brought back so many memories, and not all of them pleasant.
To his surprise, he felt Leo slip an arm around his shoulders and squeeze lightly. “Yes, it’s really good to have Gareth back with us, isn’t it?” Gareth leaned into him, grateful for Leo’s strong presence. To his left, Pietro stepped closer, so that the two men flanked him. Gareth suddenly realized what they were doing. Warmth flooded through him at the thought of the Dom and the sub who were closing ranks, supporting him, and he felt the tension in his body ease.
The unmasked look of surprise on Craig’s face was unexpected, as was his reaction. He backed away with a curt nod to Leo and one last intent look at Gareth. Leo’s arm was still tight around him, and Pietro’s hand encircled his. Gareth inhaled deeply.
“Are you all right?” Leo asked, his voice low.
Gareth nodded. “Yes, thank you, Sir.” He gave Leo a weak smile. Leo released him with a nod. A burst of applause broke through, startling him, and he looked toward the stage. The demonstration had evidently finished. The crowd around the stage parted as the level of noise grew, and Gareth saw Andrew walking toward Leo. Gareth knew the second Andrew caught sight of him. The Dom froze. Their eyes locked.
Gareth couldn’t breathe. Andrew’s eyes grew wide, his lips parting.
“I meant to ask, why come back now?”
It took a moment or two for Gareth to realize that the words were directed at him. He turned to Leo, who was regarding him quizzically. Leo looked toward Andrew and then back to Gareth. A slow smile crossed his face. “Oh, I see.”
Gareth’s cheeks grew hot. By the time Andrew reached the little group, they were almost on fire. He lowered his gaze, unwilling to look Andrew in the eye. Gareth had seen Andrew naked on stage countless times, but somehow, seeing him in this setting, those tight leather pants, his chest bare, was much more stimulating.
Come on, let’s be honest here. Andrew the Dom is hot.
“Andrew, that was wonderful,” Leo congratulated him. “We’ll have to have you do another demonstration another day.”
“That would be fine,” Andrew replied. Gareth could feel the Dom’s eyes on him.
“Andrew, I believe you already know Gareth, one of our members who’s been away for a while.”
Gareth’s cheeks were scorching hot. He took a peek at Andrew’s face, to find him smirking.
“Yes, we work together.” Andrew deliberately looked him up and down. “You’re looking very well this evening, Gareth.” The smirk widened. “It’s nice to see what you look like with clothes on. It’s not often that I get the chance.” Those dark, dark eyes danced with amusement.
Gareth couldn’t miss Leo’s snort. He was sure his whole face was red-hot by now.
“You’ll have to excuse me,” Leo said, “but I need to go and speak to Thomas about something.” He gave Andrew a brief nod and then gazed at Gareth with a fond expression. “It is so good to have you back.”
Gareth flushed. He turned to find Alex and Pietro talking animatedly with Andrew about the demonstration he’d given. Gareth watched his friend with amusement. Pietro hadn’t changed, thank God. Gareth smiled to himself when he caught Miles looking at the sub with an identical expression on his face.
“Leave the poor man alone,” Miles said to Pietro with a grin. “He’s just performed brilliantly, and here you are, bending his ear. Besides, I need you. You can come help me tidy up the group room.” Miles caught hold of Pietro’s hand and held it. Pietro looked up at him, eyes glowing. Miles speared Alex with a look. “You too, pup. That’ll keep you out of mischief ’til Leo comes back.”
Alex gasped in mock horror. “As if I’d misbehave, Sir. The mere thought hadn’t even considered the possibility of crossing my mind.” He smiled at Gareth. “It was good to meet you.”
“Same here,” Gareth said warmly. He’d taken a liking to the tall young man with the wicked chuckle.
Alex grinned and then followed Miles and his boy toward the group room.
It was then Gareth realized he was standing alone with Andrew, who was regarding him steadily. And suddenly he couldn’t keep still. It was as if his limbs took on a life of their own.
Andrew clicked his fingers. “Focus, boy.” He spoke quietly, but the tone in which he delivered the instruction made it clear he expected Gareth to comply. And Gareth found himself doing exactly that without thinking. He saw how Andrew waited, eyes focused on him.
What the hell do I call him?
“Yes, Sir.” Gareth focused on feelings of calm, letting his body relax, until he stood still, hands by his sides. It wasn’t easy. Seeing Andrew as a Dom, rather than his fellow dancer, set off a fluttering in his stomach. He felt hot. The look of approval in Andrew’s eyes, however, made him swell with pride.
“I think we need a drink.”
Gareth realized he’d left his pint at the bar. “I already have a beer.”
Andrew smiled. “In which case, I definitely need one.” He led the way to the bar area and pointed to a quiet corner with one empty table. Gareth sat, his back to the corner.
Ben appeared at their table a moment or two later, carrying Gareth’s beer. “I believe this is yours,” he said with a grin as he placed it in front of Gareth. He turned to Andrew. “What would you like to drink, Andrew?”
“A Manhattan for me, thanks, Ben.”
“I’ll bring it right over.” Ben walked off to the bar. Before long, Andrew’s drink appeared on their table, and Gareth took a long sip of his beer, trying to cool his warm face. He looked out across the club—and froze when he caught sight of Craig. The Dom was deep in conversation with two other men.
Gareth dropped his chin to his chest. Cold spread throughout his body, and he tensed. You can’t let him get to you like this.
“You need to tell me what’s going on between you and that Dom.”
Gareth jerked his head up.
Andrew flushed. “That was rude. Forgive me. I had no right to speak to you like that. But it’s clear there’s something wrong.”
Gareth stared at him, unable to speak for a moment. Andrew said nothing, but waited, a patient air about him. It was clear he wasn’t about to give up until he got what he wanted.
Gareth looked back to where Craig stood. “Master Craig,” he began and then stopped to draw in another deep breath before continuing. He met Andrew’s gaze. “He was my first master when I was eighteen.”
Andrew’s expression softened. “Go on,” he urged.
Gareth swallowed. “When I was twenty-one, I left him.” God, it still hurts. How can it still hurt me after all this time?
“Was that a mutual decision?”
If he’d thought it hurt before…. “No, not exactly.” The words were barely a whisper. Gareth couldn’t continue. His throat seized up.
Andrew narrowed his gaze. “I think there’s a lot more to this story, but now’s not the time. And to be honest, after that demo, I’m exhausted.”
Gareth gave him a keen glance. Now that he said it, the fatigue was evident. “Then maybe you should rest… Sir.” There was that feeling of confusion again. He expelled his breath. “Look, this feels weird. You’re my mate, and yet right now, I haven’t got a clue how to address you, how to act around you.”
Andrew regarded him steadily. “It’s okay, Gareth,” he said quietly. “We’ve just added another dimension to our friendship, that’s all. I know it’s confusing.” Gareth nodded. “I think we should get together and talk some more. We just need to figure this out.”
Gareth’s heart sank. As long as I don’t have to talk about him.
Something must have registered on his face, because Andrew smiled gently. “How about a bite to eat before Bliss on Friday?” He studied Gareth intently. “I won’t bite, Gareth.” That smirk was back.
It was clear Andrew wouldn’t be letting go of this anytime soon. There was nothing for it but to go along with him.
“Yeah, okay,” he said resignedly. Andrew’s pleased expression brought a brief swell of contentment.
“Good boy.”
Gareth felt a pang as the words registered. Okay, Andrew was a mate. But right now, those words sounded so good. It had been a long time since someone had said that to him, and if he were completely truthful, he’d missed it. Nothing had filled the void left behind when he’d stopped coming to the club. But in the first few weeks after Craig had…. Yeah, there’d been no wayGareth could have walked in here, not with the very real possibility of running into him.
Andrew finished his Manhattan and then smiled at Gareth. “Then we’ll call it a night. I look forward to seeing you on Friday. I’ll give you a call when I’ve worked out where we’re going to meet up.” He got to his feet, and Gareth joined him. Andrew gazed at him for a moment in silence, until Gareth itched to know what was going through his mind. Andrew’s smile widened. “It’s really good to see you here, Gareth.”
The sincerity of his words was unmistakable, and Gareth responded wholeheartedly.
“Yeah, same here.”
As he watched Andrew walk away from the table, it occurred to him that his relationship with Andrew at work might have just changed. To what extent, he’d have to wait and see. He hoped this dinner on Friday would make it really clear where the lines were drawn. Because right now, he didn’t have a clue.

What did I think?

This book is slightly different from the other books in the series. Where it differs is that it’s not primarily a BDSM story in the true sense of a dominant/submissive relationship and does not feature a heavy D/s relationship between the main characters.  Instead this is the story of a relationship building between two men who work as strippers at a club. Andrew is a Dom and Gareth is submissive but this isn’t the crux of their relationship. There are some D/s scenes but they are primarily not between the main characters of Andrew and Gareth.

The plot follows Andrews integration back into life in Manchester after many years of living in the US. He works as a stripper to supplement his income and allow him to afford membership to Collars & Cuffs. In the early part of the book, we see Andrew’s early exploration into the scene at the club (Collars & Cuffs) plus meet the guys who work as strippers at Bliss. It’s not until the mid-point of story that Gareth works his magic with a sexy pole dance, that they finally get together.

Throw in some time spent with characters from the previous books plus a dash of drama as the bad guy comes out to play (there’s a clue in the excerpt!), and it’s a nice continuation of the series!

Love Lessons Learned by K.C. Wells

Love Lessons Learned (Love Lessons Learned, #1)Love Lessons Learned by K.C. Wells

The blurb

John Wainwright is having a momentous day. To start off, he lands his first teaching job. Then his brother, Evan, and Evan’s husband, Daniel, take him out to celebrate in Manchester’s gay village. An encounter with a sexy man forces John to admit what he’s been denying for too long—he’s gay. His coming out proves he’s supported and loved by his family and roommates. What more could a man want? There’s just one small problem: John’s dishy Head Teacher, Brett Sanderson, and John’s gigantic crush on him. Too bad Brett is straight.

Brett Sanderson leads a double life. At thirty-three, he is the Head Teacher of a primary school. But for seven years now, during every school holiday, Brett has fled to Brighton, where he becomes ‘Rob,’ a man who has a different guy in his bed every night but has never had a relationship.

Once he’s back in school, Brett is firmly back in that closet, until his newest staff member starts prying open the door. When John pulls out all the stops to get Brett’s attention, neither man is prepared for the consequences.

So what did I think?

Love Lessons Learned was typical K.C. Wells and reminiscent of the cross-over series Learning to Love – this story focused on John, brother to Evan from Learning to Love: Evan & Daniel.

It is very similar in style which was perfect because I was looking forward to some nice and sweet characters. It was also nice to get the little peak at Evan and hear how the boys from the previous series were doing.

In this story, John is venturing out into his first real job, as the teacher at a school in a disadvantaged area. John has just acknowledged his own sexuality and has no experience with a man but he falls heavily for Head Teacher, Brett.

Brett, at 33, has just discovered he wants more out of life than the anonymous sex filled holidays he takes a few times a year. He wants a real relationship but the fact John is the new teacher he is mentoring takes him out of the equation for Brett.

In this story, they first need to take the steps to get together, face the ramifications of a relationship at work and deal with a number of other obstacles thrown their way. Along the way there are good friends, aggrieved co-workers, and some dramatic moments. There is hot sex and there is romance. The characters are sweet and nice and emotional.

This was a 4 star for me, mainly because I needed a good dose of sweet with happy endings.

Personal Secrets (Personal #3)Personal Secrets by K.C. Wells

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Blake Davis and husband Will are delighted when Ed Fellows turns up at the hospital the night their daughter is born—even if he is covered in mud from playing rugby and drunk out of his skull. Team-mate Colin is the Good Samaritan who drives him there, and when Colin takes Ed home, Colin finds himself on the receiving end of a blow-job. He has no problem with that whatsoever. He’s been in lust with Ed since Ed joined the rugby team some fourteen months ago. Only thing is, Colin’s assumed up ’til now that Ed is straight. Except the man sucking him off certainly didn’t seem straight….

Talk about the morning after the night before…. Ed awakens to find a nearly-naked Colin asleep on his sofa. The problem is that for some reason, he can’t get Colin out of his mind. Okay, so it wasn’t the first blow-job Ed’s ever gotten from a guy—or given, for that matter—but that was a long time ago, right? And why does Ed now want more?

With friends Rick, Angelo, Blake and Will to advise him, Ed finds himself on a completely unfamiliar road, as he struggles to accept that maybe the line he is walking isn’t as straight as he’d first imagined…

So what did I think?

This is the sort of story that I love to curl up in bed with, knowing I’m in for a treat – the story will be sweet, the sex will be hot and the ending will be happy – and Personal Secrets did not disappoint.

For a start, how could you not like Ed? He’s big, he plays rugby and he’s discovering that he likes – really likes – Colin. I loved Ed and Colin’s journey as they discovered how compatible they were sexually but how both were a little unsure of the whole emotional involvement as their relationship headed that way. There is focus on Ed’s insecurities as he wonders whether he is ‘gay enough’ to keep Colin. It was sweet to see how insecure he was about his own attractiveness although Colin obviously thought he was gorgeous.

This is a story of finding out what the heart wants and the challenges to be faced. For Colin, coming out to the rugby team is relatively easy. He doesn’t advertise but he doesn’t hide who he is. For Ed, the story is very different and I loved to see his coming out journey – coming out to himself, to his team mates, to his closest friends, to his work colleagues, him mum and the rest of his family. It was emotional without being over the top dramatic.

There was some drama that had a slight soap-opera feel, particularly with Blake’s new PA but this could be forgiven in the overall scheme of the story. It was wonderful to see appearances of the characters from the previous books, particularly Blake, Will and their little baby.

This was warm and sexy and a nice end to the series.

★★★★ Someone To Keep Me by K.C. Wells & Parker Williams ★★★★

The Collars and Cuffs series:

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

Someone To Keep Me (Collars and Cuffs, #3)Someone To Keep Me by K.C. Wells & Parker Williams

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Eighteen-year-old Scott Keating knows a whole world exists beyond his parents’ strict control, but until he gains access to the World Wide Web, he really has no idea what’s out there. In a chat room, Scott meets “JeffUK.” Jeff loves and understands him, and when he offers to bring Scott to the UK, Scott seizes his chance to escape his humdrum life and see the world. But when his plane touches down and Jeff isn’t there, panic sets in.

Collars & Cuffs favorite barman and Dom-in-training, Ben Winters, drops his sister off at the airport and finds a lost, anxious Scott. Hearing Scott’s story sets off alarm bells, along with his protective instincts. Taking pity on the naïve boy, Ben offers him a place to crash and invites him to Collars & Cuffs, hoping his bosses will know how to help. Scott dreams of belonging to someone, heart and soul. Ben longs for a sub of his own. And neither man sees what’s right under his nose.

So what did I think?

I was always going to like this story – I enjoyed the first two books in the series and I love the authors – and I wasn’t disappointed. Was it perfect? No. Was it hugely enjoyable? Yes!

This is the story of Scott and Ben. Scott is very young and extremely naive and innocent, having lead a sheltered life in the US. He heads across the globe to Manchester, without money or clothes, to meet up with Jeff, a guy he met online. When Scott is stood up by Jeff, Ben just happens to be at the airport in Manchester and takes him under his wing.

At first I was worried about Scott’s youth and whether he was being taken advantage of. Although eighteen he had been home-schooled and had no life-experience. He did not go out much, had not friends and didn’t even watch television. But the story handled him very sensitively and the development of his relationship with Ben was a slow journey.

Ben is a barman at the Collars & Cuffs club and he is supporting his mother by paying for her to be in a home for the elderly. He has limited money which makes him reluctant to look after Scott. I liked the way this lead character was not the typical rich Dom but rather a ‘real’ everyday-type character. I must admit that Ben didn’t seem very Dom-like at first but he really was a wonderful match for an innocent such as Scott. This is not heavy BDSM with only a few scenes including some exhibitionism.

I’m not a huge fan of the first person but I liked the alternating POVs. There were a few plot holes or events that were unexplained or unlikely but this really didn’t bother me. I just enjoyed getting stuck into the story and waiting for Ben to wake up to himself – he was infuriating at times – the events at the 90% mark were surprising!

Highly recommended, particularly if you’ve read the earlier books in the series as the characters from these books feature in Someone To Keep Me.

Personal ChangesPersonal Changes by K.C. Wells

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

The sequel to Making it Personal…

Rick Wentworth has had enough of one night stands and quickies in clubs. It takes a night of uncharacteristic hedonism to make Rick admit what he really wants – someone to love him. But for that to happen, he needs to make some changes. Rick can do that. After all, what’s the alternative? And when he meets a guy who ticks all his boxes, he can’t believe his luck. His boss Blake Davis, and Blake’s fiancé Will Parkinson, however, aren’t convinced. They want to know more about Mr. Perfect, and their instincts are keener than Rick’s. Both men want to protect him. As it turns out, they needn’t have worried. Rick has a guardian angel…

When Angelo Tarallo sees Rick for the first time, it’s a match made in Heaven, as far as he’s concerned. And when he rescues Rick from danger, it gives him the opportunity to get to know the man who has captivated him. Before long, it’s plain to both men that this could lead somewhere. But when Angelo’s traditional Sicilian family finally discover what he’s been hiding from them for so long, an ultimatum spells heartache for the lovers – and worse.

So what did I think?

You know when you read a book and you really, really like it, so when a sequel is released, your expectations are really high? And you hope and hope that the sequel is just as good? Well, this sequel is even better!

This story has all the elements that make it a true page-turner. From Rick’s desire to find true love, his regret at his casual sexual exploits, attempted rape, good friends, finding love, intolerant families, loving families, ultimatums, violence, love and lots of hot sex.

The story starts with a bang (menage and dp!) and from these early scenes, it’s clear that Rick has a very low opinion of himself. He is vulnerable as he searches for love and this vulnerability allows him to be taken advantage of. Luckily he has good friends Will and Blake to look out for him and bolster his spirits.

Angelo is from a traditional Italian family with traditional beliefs that don’t include them having a gay son. He experiences his own heartache when he needs to make some very important decisions but he receives some very wise advice. “You decide for yourself who you are going to gift your heart to, and see that love returned.”

I really enjoyed the journey as Rick learns that he is worthy of love and Angelo makes life changing decisions to follow his heart. There are scenes of smoking hot sex and moments of beautiful tenderness and a fabulous romantic happy ending!

A copy of this book was provided by the author in return for my honest review. Thanks K.C.!
