Sapphire Cay 6 Forever In The Sun

Blurb

Feuding families, unearthed secrets, and a violent storm threatens the Cay. Will the idyllic island with her cast of characters make it through unscathed? It’s time for the circle to close on the story of Sapphire Cay, and on the men who have lived and found love on her beaches.

Join characters old and new as we celebrate Dylan and Lucas’s wedding and delve into the history of Sapphire Cay.

Connor and Shaun are directly related to Peter and Alfie, a couple whose clandestine lover affair was overshadowed by old prejudices and a world war. Shaun Jamieson is a writer, a romantic and needs to pen the story of the affair’s final secrets; Connor French’s family wants to stop Shaun.

When the two men step onto the sands of Sapphire Cay, they find more than just the secrets of an old love. They find hope and comfort in each other. But with the past hanging over them, can they ever have what Peter and Alfie could not? Or are they just as ill-fated as their ancestors?

Excerpt

“Don’t show us up. You got that?” Dylan stood under the shade of the trees at the edge of the beach and looked down at Mutt. The dog looked back up at him, before twisting his head from side to side in an attempt to snag the blue ribbon, which held the small pale gray doggy waistcoat in place.

Dylan watched Mutt for a moment. He imagined the dog felt as overdressed and out of place as he did. Dylan didn’t do suits and ties, not like this anyway. He stood tall and smoothed his hand over the material of the gray suit he wore, a similar shade to what Mutt was wearing. Why had he let Edward talk him into this?

We could always dress Adam, Scott, and Jamie in bridesmaid dresses and have them follow you down the aisle, Edward had said far too seriously.

Mutt had seemed the lesser of two evils. Besides, the dog was family now. Their boy, their baby.

With a smile, Dylan affectionately stroked Mutt’s head. He stopped when he heard music echoing from the beach. “Looks like it’s time.” He patted Mutt on the back and encouraged him forward with a pull on his leash.

Emerging from the trees, Dylan stopped where tufts of long grass made way for hot white sand. He glanced along the aisle. Guests were standing in front of their seats, waiting for him to make his way to the front. The lady registrar stood on a platform, beneath an arch of blue and white flowers. He wrapped the leash around his hand, keeping Mutt at his heel, as they made their way to the stage.

Dylan glanced from side to side, remembering to smile whenever he met anyone’s eyes. He was relieved when he reached the front. Focusing on the area to his right, he aimed to where Scott was waiting. He handed Mutt’s leash over to Scott, then took his place in front of the registrar.

Anticipation turned over his stomach and he stared back toward the trees. He wanted nothing more than to see Lucas, to touch him, to kiss him, to catch the slightest of glimpses of the man he would call husband from today. This morning had been close to torturous. He had never been one for traditions or following the rules, but Tasha had insisted they shouldn’t see each other until the ceremony. He might have missed waking up with Lucas but it meant each touch and every kiss, when he did see him would be all the better for it.

The music faded into a second piece. As the instrumental recording rose in volume, so did the swell of emotions within him. He didn’t think he’d ever felt so happy, nor had he ever loved someone as much as he did Lucas. He looked at his lover and couldn’t help but smile.

EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Just Jack by Meredith Russell

Just-Jack 400x600

Blurb

When the line between fairy tales and magic, and the real world become blurred, can love really conquer anything?

Leo Marsh is having a bad day. He just caught his boyfriend cheating on him, and not for the first time, then he falls, quite literally, for a man who has to be too good to be true….

When Leo slips and falls on some ice in front of Jack, Jack sees something all too familiar in Leo’s eyes. For over fifty years, Jack has existed in a solitary life of ice and bitterness. Just like Leo, he was betrayed by a man he loved, and swore no one would ever break his heart again: he gave up on love, and it seemed love had given up on him.

But if by fate or magic, Jack and Leo find their paths crossing for a second time, and with a little guidance from friends, dare to take a chance on each other. The problem is, Jack isn’t the charming and uncomplicated guy Leo thinks he is. When Jack gave away his ability to love, he became something else, someone cold and unloving. He became Jack Frost.

As Jack and Leo get closer, Jack is left torn and confused. Jack yearns for anything that reminds him of his humanity, but the truth is, he feels nothing, not warmth, not love, and he knows he might never be able to love Leo the way he deserves to be loved.

Excerpt

He glanced up and down the sidewalk and settled his gaze on a man walking toward him. The man stood out from the other people on the street. He didn’t rush like the people around him, who looked as if they were running from the cold in search of a hiding place. In fact, he seemed to enjoy it. He wore a short coat open over a pale blue shirt and dark jeans. His skin was fair, even more so set against his dark hair, and softened by the trimmed growth across his jaw. Something familiar leapt in Leo’s chest, but he was sure he had never seen the man before. He watched as blue spirals seemed to dance around the man, then their eyes met ever so briefly.

Clearly, Leo was imagining things, because the icy cold that had gripped his heart since leaving Mac’s apartment made way for sparks of heat. This didn’t happen to him, not like this. Sure he’d ogled plenty of handsome men, some had been downright fuckable, but never had a reaction been so strong to a simple stranger on the street. He was well and truly in lust.

A smile curled the man’s full mouth, and he looked over his shoulder. Leo’s attention was drawn beyond the man as someone seemingly slipped in the snow. The man’s smile widened as a second person fell on their ass behind him, then a third. Others stopped to help the fallen people, but all the man did was simply glance at Leo as he passed him. Intrigued, Leo stepped out. What happened next was a blur as his feet slipped from under him and he fell forward. His head hit the ground and all he remembered thinking was how shitty his day was turning out.

Capture the Sun by RJ Scott & Meredith Russell

Capture The Sun is book #5 in the Stories from Sapphire Cay series. Here’s a bit about the book and the series.

The Stories from Sapphire Cay series:

  1. Follow the Sun
  2. Under the Sun
  3. Chase the Sun
  4. Christmas In The Sun
  5. Capture the Sun

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

Capture The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay #5)#5 Capture the Sun

Featuring Mitch and Isaac

I really enjoy this series. It’s like receiving a lovely little gift each time a new book is released. What makes it appealing, at least for me, is the familiarity of the setting – who can resist a gorgeous tropical island? – and also the chance to get little glimpses of characters we’ve met before. Plus I always like the pairing of the men in the story.

In Capture the Sun, it’s the turn of Mitch and Isaac to find love. They meet at a party and have a sizzling encounter, but a case of mistaken identity threatens to derail any future they might have. Unable to forget each other, they are shocked to find themselves on an island for a week.

We’ve met Mitch before. He’s the ex-boyfriend of Dylan, who runs the island with his fiance Lucas. For Mitch, the story is about second chances and finding there is someone out there for him. It’s about realising there’s more to life than business. For Isaac, its about being loved for who he is, being acknowledged as a man in his own right, not just a model or his father’s son.

This story combines some hot sex with a sweet story as these men get in touch with their emotions. It’s a gentle, read-in-one-sitting kind of book, that leaves you smiling at the happy ending.

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

The earlier books in the series…

Follow The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay, #1)

#1 Follow The Sun

featuring Lucas and Dylan

Follow The Sun was a sweet and gentle story. The blurb says the series is full of romance and drama but in all honesty there wasn’t too much drama. The focus is on the emotional side of the story.

Lucas heads to Sapphire Cay to host his sister’s wedding at the resort. They are orphans and he has raised her since she was a teenager. Lucas has always had responsibilities, whether it be his sister or the high powered and very stressful career he has. However he is overworked, unhealthy and obviously has lost his passion for the job. The death of his boss and mentor has him questioning the direction his life is taking.

Dylan ‘follows the sun’. He travels the world, finding work where he can but has returned to work at Sapphire Cay for the last 5 years. He has had his own fair share of tragedy and disappointment in his life.

Lucas and Dylan are drawn to each other but their relationship develops fairly gently, both afraid of moving too fast. A lot of the focus is on Dylan trying to draw out Lucas, to put a smile on his face. Lucas’ sadness and worries play a significant role.

Dylan has some decisions he also needs to make, decisions that would impact his roving ways. I do think there was a lost opportunity or potential plot twist related to the brief visit of Dylan’s ex-lover. Knowing about the relationship Dylan had with him helps to understand Dylan better but why did his personal visit not result in any big drama or misunderstanding? I was waiting for something climatic to happen but it didn’t eventuate.

Add a sweet sister, wedding shenanigans and a happy ending and it all sums up to an enjoyable story.

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

Under The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay, #2)

#2 Under the Sun

Featuring Edward and Jamie

A perfect opposites attract story with really likable and interesting characters. The pairing of Edward, wedding planner extraordinaire and Jamie, injured marine, is just fabulous!

Like the first book, Follow the Sun, this story is sweet and gentle without too much drama. There are some misunderstandings as both men read each other incorrectly and make assumptions obviously based on their past experiences (stereotyping for both of them) but largely the story focuses on the slow development of the relationship.

Edward is a wedding planner who arranges a lot of weddings on the island. He comes to the island for a week to arrange a wedding where he meets Jamie. Jamie has completed two tours in Afghanistan and been injured. He has returned to the island, where he was raised, to spend some time to himself so that he can sort out what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

It’s lovely to see the Lucas and Dylan from the first book make appearances. They are supportive, such as the advise offered by Dylan “Just promise me one thing.” He looked at Jamie and pointed toward his chest. “Trust this, yeah? And follow your heart.” His eyes brightened. “Lucas taught me that.”
Follow his heart. Jamie nodded. He could do that.

and of course he does so we get a wonderful happy ending!

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

Chase The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay, #3)

#3 Chase the Sun

Featuring Scott and Adam

This book was sweet and a nice addition to the series. I think there is something appealing about the characters, the setting and the nice glimpse of the characters from the past books. Although I would have actually liked to have seen a bit more of the other characters!

This is a story about two men who had broken up years ago as a result of some really bad life choices. I liked Adam, who had got himself caught up in trouble and served his time. It was easy to feel a lot of sympathy for him as he seemed so hard on himself. Scott was also easy to like as he learnt to trust again.

However this book seemed too short and over too quickly. It was a bit like skimming the surface of the relationship with not enough depth. Forgiveness came too quickly and easily although it was still believable.

A nice sweet ending…“What are you thinking about?” Adam teased. Scott smiled. “You,” he began quietly. “Always you.”

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

Christmas In The Sun

# 4 Christmas in the Sun

This is one of those stories that is like revisiting family. It’s feels like a family gathering where you get to find out what’s happening with everyone, a sneak peak into the relationships and lives of those you care about.

Primarily focused on Lucas and Dylan, the story takes place in the lead up to Christmas. Lucas wants Dylan to experience the full joy of family at Christmas but his interfering causes a bit of a (very short lived) rift between him and Dylan. As with any couple, these guys do have issues they need to work through but they love each other enough to talk it out. Plus have really fabulous make-up sex! Finding some old photos and letters that document a secret relationship from the 30s/40s, also reinforces how lucky they are to live in an age where they are relatively free to love each other.

There are some small peaks of Jamie & Edward and Adam & Scott, although not enough to really satisfy my curiosity about these couples. The addition of Tasha and Liam plus a cute little stray dog completes the family feel.

What I would love to see now is a full length books with the story of Alfie and Peter. There was so much left unsaid about this couple and I am totally intrigued to learn more about their love story, to find out who Alfie was and what really happened with him and Peter.

Excerpt and Giveaway! Alter Ego by Meredith Russell

Alter Ego 400x600

Alter Ego

Meredith Russell

Book 1 in the Knowles Brook Series

Jay James is the confident, outgoing, flirtatious, lead guitarist of a 70s tribute band. But appearances can be deceiving. Jay James isn’t real. ‘Jay’ was born out of necessity and a way for James Hall to deal with life at home after coming out. James is shy and awkward, and can’t escape the shadow of his strained relationship with his mother. As ‘Jay’, James feels indestructible, like nothing can touch him, and he can have any man he wants. But is that really enough?

Danny Ashton is stuck, or at least that’s how he feels sometimes. Five years ago, he dropped out of university to look after his sick mother. He was never prepared for the hand he was dealt—a house to run, bills to pay, and a teenage brother to support.

Together, Danny and James realise ignoring their problems will solve nothing, and if they are to stand any chance of happiness and living as the men they want to be, then they need to move forward. Can the two men face their demons? Or will they end up pushing one another away?

Excerpt

“What’s wrong?” Sam might be sixteen but he wasn’t stupid. He knew Danny wasn’t saying something. “What did he want?”

“He’s cutting back my hours.”

Sam twisted his hands together in his lap. “I’m sixteen now. I could get a job. Weekends maybe at a supermarket. I could get the bus.”

Danny smiled. He appreciated the offer, but Sam needed to focus on school. “We’ll be fine.” He closed his eyes and rubbed a soothing line over his forehead. He doubted he sounded convincing.

“Can you get any extra shifts at the Spread?” Sam asked.

Unable to find full-time work, Danny split his time working behind the bar in the Spread Eagle pub a handful of shifts during the week and the Knowles Brook village social club at the weekend. “I doubt it.” He opened his eyes and looked at his brother. How had they gotten to this?

“What about that advert from last week? You applied, right?”

Danny nodded. Sure he’d applied. He’d applied to plenty of jobs. He had filled out form after form and written dozens of letters for anything that might lead to employment more permanent than him just muddling through, part-time job to part-time job, like he’d been doing for almost five years now. Everywhere wanted experience. How was he supposed to get experience if no one would take him on? He just wanted to be able to look at Sam and feel he deserved the respect his little brother held for him. He didn’t feel like the hero he knew Sam painted him out to be.

“Closing date’s tomorrow.” Maybe it was adventurous to apply for a managerial role, but they couldn’t live hand to mouth forever. He had no savings, not anymore, and despite Sam’s continual offer of anything he had saved, Danny wouldn’t take it. That money was for Sam, for his future, for getting out of this village and this house.

The Lone Wolf Trilogy: The Good Wolf and The Bad Wolf by Meredith Russell

The Lone Wolf Trilogy:

  • The Good Wolf (book #1)
  • The Bad Wolf (book #2)
  • The Ugly Wolf (book #3) – Not yet released

❅❅❅❅❅❅❅

The Good WolfThe Good Wolf by Meredith Russell

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Sometimes the only way to let love in is to let the wolf in, too.

Ten years ago, Mason fell for his best friend while at university. Little did he know just two years later, that same friend would turn his world upside down in a way Mason could never have imagined. Now, he lives a cursed life. Living in solitude, Mason does everything he can to keep people away, not only for his safety, but for theirs, too.

The night of the full moon.

Niall has no idea he’s a werewolf, but fate brings him and Mason together. A trick of the moon or something deeper, the men are drawn to each other. Together they must find a way to deal with what has happened to them both. But first Mason must learn to trust Niall and realize being alone is not always for the best.

So what did I think?

The Good Wolf was surprisingly unique. Definitely not the standard shifter story. I don’t read a huge amount of paranormal stories, so maybe there are more out there, but I haven’t read a story that provides such a brutal look at the world of werewolves.

This story isn’t about gorgeous alphas with their band of devoted followers. It isn’t about insta-love and werewolf bonding. It shows the horror and violence of the wolf.

Mason hates every moment of being a werewolf and has spent years trying to find a ‘cure’. He is alone, living in isolation, hiding from the man who created him and despising what he has become.

I didn’t feel this was a romance in the traditional sense but Niall and Mason develop a relationship as they deal with the horrific three days each month when the wolf takes over.

The Bad WolfThe Bad Wolf by Meredith Russell

My rating: 3.5  of 5 stars

The blurb…

The journey to become a better man isn’t easy, especially when there’s something worth fighting for.

Evan has been alone since Kaine’s death, moving from place to place, and for the most part, keeping to himself. He never expected to cross paths with Mason and Niall again. When he gets caught up in something bigger than himself, he is left injured, scared, and with nowhere else to turn.

Michael is like no wolf Evan has ever met before. Born a werewolf, Michael is stronger and faster, but has yet to truly tap into his abilities. Taken in by Mason and Niall, Michael struggles to come to terms with the horrific events in his past and the loss of his family. In Evan, Michael finds an unexpected focus. And despite warnings of Evan’s own dark past, Michael finds Evan to be someone worth fighting for, and someone who can help him understand exactly what he is capable of.

So what did I think?

As with the first book in the series, this werewolf/shifter world is a completely different take on the worlds I have come across before.

This is a lot of focus on the negative aspects of being a wolf – the pain, sadness and desire to avoid the pull of the full moon. There is fear and loathing of the gruesome horrors that these wolves might find themselves involved in.

This story follows Evan, who was introduced in book 1. He is injured and stumbles across Mason and Niall (the couple from The Good Wolf), who he hasn’t seen for years. Evan is a changed man but Mason and Niall don’t know that and there is a lot of distrust.

Evan’s love interest is Michael, a young man with his own troubles, who was born wolf. They share a special bond and their relationship strengthens throughout the book but once again, this story wasn’t a typical romance as in the story is not purely focused around the couple and their feelings for each other.

This is a story of healing, mending bridges, learning to trust and fighting the enemy.

Christmas In The SunChristmas In The Sun by R.J. Scott

My rating: 3.5  of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Return to Sapphire Cay for Christmas. Lucas and Dylan invite their friends to share in their Christmas celebrations on the island along with Lucas’s sister, Tasha, and her husband. Christmas is a time for family, forgiveness, and to look to the future, and this year Dylan has to face up to all three.

Unearthing the memories of two men in love, frozen in time and buried among the history of the island, Lucas and Dylan realize that sometimes loving someone is not always enough. It’s about being brave and taking the next step. To learn from the past to move forward.

Family has always been important to Lucas since his own was struck by tragedy. Though Dylan disapproves of his methods, Lucas has nothing but good intentions about wanting Dylan to reconcile with his father. The two Grey men haven’t spoken properly in years, their relationship strained by heartache and mistakes reaching back into Dylan’s childhood. Forgiveness is a hard thing to give and sometimes even harder to receive.

So what did I think?

Chase The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay, #3)Chase The Sun by R.J. Scott & Meredith Russell

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Six years ago, Adam broke Scott’s heart, but now he’s back in Scott’s life and Scott is rightly suspicious.

Adam says he wants closure, and that he wants to say sorry. Can Scott trust the man who had spent three of the last six years in prison?

Is it a case of second chances? Or will history repeat itself?

* * * * *

In Chase the Sun, Scott Antonelli is about to get the shock of his life. Six years ago, Adam Ross broke his heart and it was the trigger that set Scott off travelling around the world. For the last few years he has worked at Sapphire Cay with Dylan. On a simple supply run to Marsh Harbour, he is left reeling, as he comes face to face with his first love. Can he trust Adam this time round?

Adam Ross was an idiot. Looking for quick and easy cash, he got himself mixed up in the wrong crowd and paid the price – three years in prison and he lost the one person who had ever meant anything to him – Scott. Adam has done his best, tried to turn his life around and is in the Bahamas looking for a second chance. Finding Scott was the easy part. Getting him to trust him again, could be harder than he ever imagined.

So what did I think?

Under The Sun (Stories from Sapphire Cay, #2)Under The Sun by Meredith Russell

My rating: 3.5  of 5 stars

The Blurb…

Edward McAllister, wedding planner extraordinaire arrives at Sapphire Cay for a wedding. He has four days to go until the big day and his plans are smashed when he spots the stage he was setting is destroyed. Doesn’t matter that the guy pulling down the old gazebo and digging trenches is hot – he is messing with Edward’s OCD and Edward isn’t afraid to let the other man know exactly how he feels.

Jamie Durand is and ex marine and son of the former owners of Sapphire Cay. He is on the island to get his head around his new life after leaving the forces due to injury. When Edward arrives in his space he is bemused at the instant dislike the uptight man is showing towards him.

Not an auspicious start. But just you wait when Edward relaxes and Jamie opens up. Fireworks.

So what did I think?

A perfect opposites attract story with really likable and interesting characters. The pairing of Edward, wedding planner extraordinaire and Jamie, injured marine, is just fabulous!

Like the first book, Follow the Sun, this story is sweet and gentle without too much drama.

The Blurb…

The first in a series of books filled with romance and drama on Sapphire Cay in the Bahamas.

Lucas Madison is in the Bahamas for his sister’s wedding on the beautiful and idyllic island of Sapphire Cay.

He has the weight of the world on his shoulders. With the stress of his job, the loss of his friend, and faced with his own medical crisis, Lucas arrives on the white sands of Sapphire Cay gray and exhausted. His only thought is to see his sister married and happy.

Dylan Gray is a free-spirited traveller who literally follows the sun. Never settling in one place for long, he earns his way from state to state and continent to continent. But there’s something about Sapphire Cay that draws him back over and over. A feeling of home.

When these two men meet, both have decisions to make and directions to choose. And maybe together, they can make the right ones and follow not only the sun, but also their hearts.

This is the story of Lucas and Dylan, set against the stunning landscape of Sapphire Cay

So what did I think?
