Night Porter series by Sue Brown
The Night Porter and Light of Day tell the story of Max and Robert. Make sure you have Light of Day ready before starting the first book as The Night Porter doesn’t have a happy ending! They are not very long (under 100 pages each) so don’t take long to read together.

The Blurb…
The first time Max lays eyes on Robert Armitage, he knows exactly what he wants to happen. Tall, broad, and gorgeous, Robert pushes all his buttons. When Robert asks Max to show him around town, the attraction between them only intensifies. But Max is just a night porter and Robert a guest at his hotel before his wedding, and Max knows even as they sleep together that in the morning he’ll have to send the groom on his way.
So what did I think?
Max was a character that really tugged at the heart-strings. The Night Porter at a London hotel, he seems to be looking in the wrong places for love and has had his heart broken.
He has a habit of hooking up with guests who are staying at the hotel, guests who are definitely on a path that doesn’t involve Max for anymore than a night.Enter Robert, who also falls into this category, but somehow manages to capture Max’s heart. A couple of days together and both know they have something special.
As the blurb says, Robert is actually at the hotel to prepare for his wedding, so this might not sit easy with some readers due to the element of infidelity but this really didn’t bother me due to the specific situation with Robert and his fiance Evie.
Be prepared, there isn’t a happy ending! Thank goodness a quick emergency visit to Amazon soon rectified the situation and I had immediate access to the sequel.

The first time Max laid eyes on Robert Armitage, he knew exactly what he wanted to happen. But Max was just a night porter and Robert a guest at the hotel before his wedding, and Max knew even as they slept together that in the morning he’d have to send the groom on his way. Max’s heart was broken when Robert left, and so he ran home to Texas. When Robert’s marriage failed, Max waited for Robert to come looking for him, and waited….
A year later, Max’s dreams come true and Robert finds him, but there’s a catch, and Max has to decide if he wants Robert enough to be satisfied with hiding their relationship.
So what did I think?
I was so happy to read the sequel to The Night Porter as I really wanted to see Max in particular, have his happy ending. I wanted him to be swept off his feet by his hero and to live the fairy tale.
This book did contain lots of romance, combined with some sizzling sex, as Robert returned for Max. There are lovely declarations of love and tender moments but the road to true love is not smooth and sacrifices have to be made.
Max and Robert do make their life together but due to these sacrifices, I don’t feel the fairy tale is everything that Max deserves. I am glad he has someone who loves and adores him but I want more for him so slightly disappointed that things didn’t quite pan out that way. For this reason 3.5 stars.
