Interview with Hurri Cosmo
How do you handle writer’s block? Not well. I am so easily distracted and in a house full of people and animals it makes it that much more difficult. But it happens. Too often lately. Sometimes I go for a walk or a drive to try to put the next scenes together in my head or to solve a plot problem I’ve run into. However, most of the time I just muscle through. There is no easy “answer” for me.
What’s the best thing about being a writer? The stories. I love creating the stories. I love it when inspiration hits and I write out a synopsis or when I go to choose the next story I am going to write. I just love the whole process of writing. I love AND hate a book coming out. Fear of whether or not it will sell or if it does if the people who read it will like it. So I love the creation part of things BEFORE it gets to that point.
What’s your advice to aspiring writers? Just do it. Write. Create. If you truly want to get published, get a story done and submit it all over the place. In this genre it is a lot easier than you think to get published. Just keep writing. I had the blessing of running across an Acquisitions Editor who decided to take a chance on me. She walked through my manuscript, edited the first three chapters, sent it back with a note saying to learn what I could from her edits and if I did, she would publish my book. Well, needless to say I took her advice. I am very grateful to her. Another piece of advice is to write with the knowledge that not everyone is going to like your work, because they won’t. Just keep pushing forward. Rejection is hard, bad ratings and reviews are hard, slow to no sales are hard, but always remember that should not be the main reason you want to write. Marketing is important but write for yourself first. I love the quote from Cyril Connelly; “It is better to write for self and have no public than it is to write for public and have no self.” Some people will vehemently disagree with that. They will say marketing it THE most important thing about writing. They will tell you there are tons of people involved in putting your book out there and you owe it them to make sure your book is successful. I agree. It IS important to consider those wonderful people. But MY advice is to be yourself. If that is you, great. Focus on marketing. It is not me. I most recently employed a marketing firm to market a couple of my books. If you can afford it, it is always best to leave such things to the experts. You write. You create.
What are you currently working on? Oh, so much! I have this file in my computer where I put all of the stories that I want to write. I have absolutely no memory so when inspiration hits I have to write it all down. Sometimes it’s just a few sentences with the barest of ideas. Sometimes it’s a full blown fourteen page synopsis. I stick them all into a file and they sit there, I suppose, incubating. Two stories that are started and on my website as being works in progress are Ghost Wolf Chronicles and The Boy Next Door. I may need to change the name of the second one but we will see. Ghost Wolf so far is about a man who is a wolf shifter but can become invisible as well. He is out to solve a case of someone killing wolves. I plan on this one being a series. The Boy Next Door will be another paranormal with a man who has left a loveless, violent relationship to move in with his grandmother, basically hiding from the world. He meets the man next door and discovers the arsenal the man possesses and is a little put off but with the help of his grandmother he comes to realize he likes the neighbor. A lot. But the grandson has a secret that could tear their fragile love apart. And of course the “ex” shows up to make things even more difficult.
But before either one of those I am working on a Police paranormal story that I am writing with a number of other Amber Allure authors which will go into an anthology. It will be available by itself or together in a set. I don’t have a title yet but it is about an older detective named Hudson on the trail of a vampire who has slipped into our world through a rip between realms. Hudson meets up with another detective from that same realm also hunting down this killer. They become a team…and then a whole lot more.
And there is a ton more. The sequel to The Astral Mage called The Sori Meni, the sequel to Until You called Until You, Too. I have another cowboy story and another paranormal tentatively called Black Dog Rising. Stayed tuned and keep checking out my website. If you like my work there is plenty coming. I will get more up on the Works In Progress page soon.
Blurb
It was only a game, right? An adult twist on “Capture the Flag”. Very adult, actually. Especially the “flag” and where it went. In fact, the only similarity between the kid version and the adult version was you still needed to capture your opponent’s flag to win. So how the hell had Camden ended up here? Oh yeah, that’s right, Tanner, Camden’s good buddy from college. He was not going to let Camden waste another birthday. In fact, he was hell-bent on getting Camden laid. So much so, the idiot set up this entire weekend gig. And that’s where Camden found himself now; on a remote island, crashing through the woods, playing a chase and capture game, trying like hell to stay ahead of his pursuer.
But why was he the one being chased? Why was Camden the prey and that big, sexy, dark haired, muscle bound, relentless god of a man, Gunner, the hunter? It should be the other way around because it was Camden’s birthday, damn it! Well, thankfully there were going to be three rounds played because it looked like Camden was going down before even reaching the first check point. Yep. Going down on all fours, flag confiscated and…well, let’s just say he would be screwed.
So… what was the down side of losing again?

About the Author
Hurri Cosmo lives in Minnesota where she holds tight to the idea that there, where it’s cold a good part of the year, she won’t age as fast. Yep, she avoids the truth as much as she avoids mirrors. But one of the reasons she loves writing is reality doesn’t always offer up a “happily ever after” and being able to take control of that is a powerful lure. Being a happy ending junkie, writing just makes them easier to find. Oh, she doesn’t mind “real life” and she does try to at least keep it in mind when she writes her stories, but she truly loves creating a wonderful couple, knowing they will fall in love and have their HEA. Every – single – time. And, of course, that is exactly the reason she loves reading this genre, too. Give her a glass of red wine, some dark chocolate, and her computer, whether she is reading or writing, and she will entertain herself for hours. The fact she actually gets paid to do it is Snickers bars on the frosting on the cake.
