TITLE – HIS PERSONAL ASSISTANT
Editor – R. E. Hargrave
Cover Designer – The Graphics Shed
Genre – Contemporary Gay Romance
Series – Book 1 – Men of New York
Length – 76k

At the tender age of twenty-one, Kade Hutchins is at a crossroads, having endured enough hardship to last a thousand lifetimes. With money tight and career at a standstill, he’s running out of time and options. The day he applies for a job that isn’t exactly in his field of expertise and meets his new boss, Mr. Preston, is the day his fate is changed irrecoverably.
Luke Preston is the kind of man others envy. Rich, successful and unattached, his no-nonsense, ‘take no prisoners attitude’ has made him one of the highest profile litigators in Manhattan. He’s also a man with secrets. Secrets he wants kept under wraps since tragedy rocked his privileged existence to the core. When Kade, a man some fifteen years his junior steps foot inside his office, Luke wonders if his heart will survive.

Brushing an errant piece of fluff off my shoulder, I straightened the hem of my shirt and took a deep breath. Not that it did much good. By the time the elevator doors opened on the tenth floor, my nerves were beyond frazzled. With less than a minute to spare, I stepped inside the plush, modern offices.
A striking woman sitting behind a large reception desk greeted me, looking most business-like. What didn’t make sense was the way she seemed ready to pounce the second she saw me. I was surprised she didn’t fall flat on her face, considering she wore a pencil-thin black skirt and high-heeled shoes and was on her feet and running toward me like a crazy person.
“Thank God you’re here!”
“Um, what?” I took a wary step backward. She was kinda scary.
“Please tell me you’re Kade Hutchins.”
“Oh. Yes, I am.”
She held out her hand and when I took it in mine, I was impressed by her firm, assured grip. “You have no idea how relieved I am to see you.”
“Uh, thanks?” The warm smile she gave in response made her round, hazel eyes sparkle. Her hospitable attitude made me feel at ease in an instant, and I couldn’t help but grin back.
“The name’s Kimberly O’Connell. I’m the paralegal around here.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Ms. O’Connell.”
“Oh, please, I insist you call me Kimberly.”
“Okay.”
Releasing her hold on me, she pointed a manicured finger at the closed office door located behind the desk. “Come on, Kade. Let’s get you in to see His Highness.” Covering her mouth, she giggled.
“Who?” I stopped myself from joining in, but it wasn’t easy. She had an infectious laugh.
“Luke Preston. The ass you spoke to on the phone.”
“Oh.” I didn’t know whether it was appropriate to agree with her or not, but decided it would be best to err on the side of caution.
“Sorry about him, by the way.” Kimberly knocked, before lowering her voice to a faint whisper, and adding, “I had no idea he was going to answer the phone when I went to make his coffee. He usually lets the machine pick up, but I didn’t think to switch it on since I was only going to be gone a few minutes.”
The moment I let out a nervous chuckle, the door to Luke Preston’s office flew open.
Tall and broad-shouldered, the strong jaw, high cheekbones, and dark brown hair slicked back so not a lock was out of place, coupled with the way his body filled out that navy suit, made Luke Preston look more like a model than a lawyer. My guess was that he was in his mid-thirties, but holy shit, did he wear it well. Startling emerald eyes fringed by long, dark lashes stared at me with such intensity that, for a split second, I forgot to breathe. His sharp features were softened by flawless, pale skin and full lips so plush, I wondered what they would feel like pressed against my own. In that briefest of moments, I knew I was in trouble as my head began waging a war with my heart so fierce, I didn’t know whether to pull him in for a kiss or run for my life.
All I could do was wait for him to say something… anything to break the tension.

BLOG TOUR: Gay for Pay by T.M Smith

Song and Scene, plus an Excerpt and Giveaway

Hello everyone and thanks for stopping by Nic’s blog today for their stop on my blog tour. It’s always fun for me to interact with my peers, and since I also do reviews for MMGBR, I’m very excited to see who decided to review Gay for Pay and what their thoughts on the story are.

Today I’m going to talk a little about the music behind my book, why I chose this song and how it represents something in the story. If you’ve read the synopsis for Gay for Pay then you know Chris is broken almost as soon as the book begins. One mistake when he was eighteen changed his life irrevocably. The song Ghost Town by Adam Lambert screamed Chris from the first time I heard it. The chorus for the song is, “My heart is a Ghost Town” and that so perfectly fits Chris at the start.

“I died last night in my dreams, all of the machines have been disconnected.” After the accident, Chris continues to think he should have died as well.

“Time was thrown out the wind, and all of my friends had been disinfected.” After the accident everyone in Chris’s life abandons him, except for his best friend Michael.

It almost seemed like Adam Lambert had read an early draft of my story then wrote this song. Everything about it screams Chris and his pain and confusion. But let me assure you, he finds happiness. There is some darkness in the book early on, but the sun begins to shine soon enough.

I hope you’ll all grab a copy of this new release and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Here’s an exclusive excerpt from Gay for Pay…

“So that’s why you don’t like the guy, and here I thought it was his charming personality.” Chris was trying to lighten the mood, but he wasn’t certain it’d worked since Linc didn’t respond. They walked in relative silence for a while and Chris was enjoying the scenery but also starting to wonder how far out along the water they were going to walk. He stopped and turned back to look and see how far the house was, shocked when it looked tiny in the distance.

He spun around, intent on asking Linc if they could start heading back to the house, running right into a wall. Well, not a wall really, but Linc’s toned chest sure felt like one when Chris barreled into him. He reached up and gripped Chris’s arms to stop him from falling over. Chris smiled and moved to pull back, but Linc held him in place, their bodies just inches apart.

He opened his mouth to tell Linc to release him, but he couldn’t form the words. Chris shook his head, swallowing, trying to add a little moisture to his suddenly dry mouth. When Linc’s tongue darted out, running over his bottom lip, Chris inhaled a sharp breath and tried to break free of Linc’s hold once more, to no avail. If anything, Chris thought his grip tightened. “Can I kiss you?” Linc whispered, his body already slowly moving closer to Chris.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. He wanted Linc to kiss him, and it scared him shitless. In his head he was saying no; he was shaking his head vigorously, no! But his body had a mind of its own. He could feel his head nodding and he closed his eyes as Linc’s warm, wet lips touched his. The kiss was chaste. Linc didn’t press further than a simple peck on the mouth, though lingering for a long time. When Linc pulled away there was a low moan, and Chris’s knees almost gave out when he realized he was the one groaning.

Gay for Pay was originally published in 2015. Flash forward nearly 3 years later and I have learned so much, become more comfortable as a writer and I’m writing better stories for my readers. So, my editor and I decided to go back to the book that started it all. It was the first book we worked on together and it was the first book in the now wildly popular All Cocks stories. I guess you could say we’ve come full circle.

GUEST POST: The Boy Who Fell To Earth by A. Zukowski

Per angustia, non est redemptio

I was breathless and often in tears. Emotionally wrung-me-out. It warmed me, broke me, comforted and soothed me.

Comments from some of the readers of The Boy Who Fell to Earth.

Sorry about that… for taking you on the emotionally raw journey I’ve travelled and making you suffer. Jay and Sasha lived in my head for a long time. At the end, they’ve become these complex characters who eat me up, turn me inside out. They take me back to the alleys and the canal of the Gay Village in Manchester. It was a playground for me when I was a new adult; no amount of cleaning up of the red light district was going to get rid of its darkness. But it was a time of innocence and true love, too.

Other snippets of memory. I’d drifted through the Dutch cities—Utrecht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam—sleeping in shelters and hostels. Before some of these places opened for the night, we’d waited in the train stations and sometimes on the streets. Heeft u geld? Drugs? It was foolhardy, but my eighteen-year-old self was fearless, and I live to tell the tale.

I wrote the story from those memories, of the people I’d lost. They’ve inspired me with their deep flaws, and their hope for love and acceptance. Through adversity, there’s redemption.

– A. Zukowski

A gang leaves a badly injured teenager on Jay’s doorstep. Sasha is homeless, addicted to drugs and sells himself on the streets to fund his habit. Jay’s attraction to Sasha confirms his sexuality. Now he has to come out to his macho mates. Sasha needs to stay clean when his past threatens to throw him back into the abyss. Are the two boys strong enough to stay together against all odds? A YA story about hope, courage, and compassion on the mean streets of London.

“It has a force that keeps you on the edge of the seat and a grittiness that opens your eyes and makes you think.” ~ Sinfully Gay Romance Book Review

Excerpt:

The first time Jay kisses a boy

We ended up sharing a joint again that afternoon. I carried on my one-sided conversation while he patiently listened to me, his newly cleaned hair shining in the sun. He had his back to the door frame, his eyes closed to catch the rays like he was on holidays enjoying himself, trying to get a tan. For the first time since we picked him off the front lawn, he was relaxed. I was absolutely mesmerised by the shape of his face, the lines of his nose, the vulnerability of that bruised body. I leaned forward and touched his lips with mine.

His eyes snapped open, but he didn’t seem shocked or upset.

Still. I moved away, awkwardly. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” I muttered.

He gazed at me, his eyes quietly assessing me. His facial expression was calm and receptive. “It’s okay.”

My eyes went wide. “Okay? Hmm.” I busied myself with a little loose thread on my top. I hadn’t even kissed a boy before and now I had done this to a stranger, someone who didn’t yet have a name. What the fuck was I doing?

He lit the joint and drew on it deeply. He breathed out, cocked his head, and looked at my face, as if he was trying to work me out. “Does your mum know you’re gay?”

I stared at him. I hadn’t considered coming out seriously. Hell, I hadn’t even come out to myself, so why would I have spoken to Ma about it? “Uh, no,” I answered.

He took another toke and passed the joint back to me. He didn’t comment further.

All my doubts evaporated. He’d acted like it was nothing special and, like he said, it was okay. Kissing a boy you found attractive was fine. I couldn’t believe I’d come out for the first time to a total stranger after kissing him.

Yet, despite everything, he jealously treasures it.

That’s why when Elias Byrne—who comes out of the shadows of Thomas’ nights—suddenly bursts into his everyday life with arrogance, Thomas finds himself fighting against ambivalent feelings—the need to reject the tormented Elias and the strange, inconceivable, and difficult to accept desire to join their solitudes.

Thomas started the car and lowered the window a little, turning off the heating to get rid of the condensation on the windshield.

“What do you want?”

“A ride. Can you give me one?”

Instinctively, Thomas would have said no, but at that moment, he was grateful to the boy who had distracted him from his panic attack. Also, it was pouring rain and he felt bad for him. Thomas nodded and waited for the guy to get in and close the door before speaking again.

“Where do you need to go?”

“Far from here.”

Thomas looked at him, puzzled. “Okay, listen, I’m sorry to let you down, but I only have a ten-minute trip to make, so you won’t get very far with me.”

The guy turned to look at him but didn’t say anything. He moved his hair a little off his face and blinked. Thomas noticed that his hair was as long and wet as his own was.

“Okay, so let’s go for the ten minutes. I’m going where you’re going.”

Thomas wrinkled his nose but didn’t speak and pulled away from the sidewalk, back onto the road. None of their conversation had made any sense, but he was still confused by his anxiety and he didn’t feel like thinking too much about what was happening. He only hoped that, if the guy was a delinquent, he wouldn’t pull out a knife to rob him because even though he was a police officer and armed, Thomas felt like he was on the edge of an abyss. Not that Landmeadow was full of criminals, but you could find bad eggs everywhere, even in a lovely Irish village. His heart contracted in an unpleasant way, and Thomas started tapping nervously on the wheel to push away the bad sensation.

Panic, just go away. Thanks a lot, shit brain. The trip continued silently. The stranger kept his face stubbornly turned toward the window, and Thomas couldn’t stop himself from wondering who he was, now that he had decided —or almost—that he wasn’t a danger, or looking to assault him, rob, or slice him open. For no particular reason, he felt curious. It also felt strange that this guy was sitting in his car after he’d dealt with his panic attack, asking him for a ride. Now, thinking about it, Thomas could have been dangerous too, for all the guy knew.

Yeah, sure.

“Shouldn’t you be at school?” he asked, trying to lighten the atmosphere, since his last thought had given him another worrying sensation. It was ridiculous that a grown man could be afraid of a teenager, but that strange feeling was really weird. And he wasn’t feeling that good at the moment.

“Why would I be?” the boy answered, turning slightly to look at him.

“I don’t know, you seem…young. Don’t they go at school at your age?”

“At my age? How old do you think I am?”

Thomas shut up and studied him out of the corner of his eye. “Eighteen? Seventeen?”

A sound similar to a woof came from the boy, and Thomas jumped a little, realizing only afterward that it had been a curt laugh.

“I’m twenty-three.”

Thomas turned and observed him better. “Well, it’s impossible to see your face with all that hair and you’re…thin. You look younger.”

A couple seconds passed before the man answered. “Do you usually prefer them bigger? Guess I’m not your type.”

Thomas almost slammed on the brakes in the middle of the street. He swerved a little and felt his blood pumping in his temples.

Who was this man? What did he want from Thomas? Did he know him? How could he? Had he crawled from the hidden night life to mix with Thomas’s life on the surface? What a fucking start to the day!

“Who are you and what do you want from me?” he asked, hoping his voice wouldn’t crack as he looked at the man from the corner of his eye.

The young man shrugged his shoulders. “My name’s Elias. I’ve seen you a few times at the Black Sheep. I followed you. I’ve seen where you live.”

Pulsations at his temples started up violently, in a worrying way.

Oh my god, what if I have a stroke right now?

Elias is a strange name around here.

What has he seen? With who? When?

My temple is pulsing so much.

Count! You are not going to have a stroke.

Shit!

“What are you? A stalker?” Thomas asked in a harsh voice, keeping a strong grip on the wheel, pushing away the last terrible thought.

Elias smirked. “I don’t know. Is that what you’d call it? I wanted you to notice me.”

What the fuck?

REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY! Still Waters by F.E. Feeley Jr.

25149673

Blurb

Promise, Michigan is very much like every other small town across the state. Built on the edge of a lake, the homes sit in neat little rows in cute little neighborhoods. During the summer Promise bustles with tourists who come to spend their vacation dollars and enjoy the lake’s refreshingly cold water. But Promise holds a terrible secret. In the center of the lake is an abandoned island where a curse is rumored to wait for victims, unabated and deadly. Most think it’s just a story, something used to keep kids out of trouble. Still, everyone gives it a wide berth. Everyone except Bret and Adam. They dare to venture out the night of Bret’s birthday. When they declared their love and promise to get married, they believe no one else heard their whispered words—but they are wrong.

Five years later Adam dies, and Bret returns to his family to heal. But someone is killing the people of Promise in random acts of violence. Bret, with the help of FBI agent Jeff McAllister, must discover the identity of a murderer with death on his mind and revenge in his heart.

Note: This is the third in the Memoirs of the Human Wraiths series but can easily be read as a stand alone.

RJ’s review

ALL THE STARS!!!

I don’t normally review anymore, only when a book is so good, it would be an injustice not to tell you how damn good it is. I know it’s only June but I’m picking this as my read of the year.

The love Bret had for Adam was tangible as he struggles to let go in the five years since Adam’s death. My heart was in my throat for a lot of this story, but not because of the scary parts. I have no problem with scary – I spent a lot of my teen years reading Stephen King, so I’m good. But although this is tagged as paranormal, as with F.E.’s other work, it’s more a contemporary crime story that deals with a ghost/curse as the murderer. And THAT element was so well played out, it could be real. (Who’s to say it’s not?)

There’s a love story between Bret and Jeff, the FBI agent sent to track down the murderer. I love Jeff. He’s supportive, protective and understanding of Bret’s situation and he doesn’t try and fight against the fact that Bret is still in love with Adam and always will be. He was the perfect combination of tough FBI agent, and sweet man in love. I just wanted to give him the biggest hug.

“What do you want me to do? Anything, just say it,” Jeff begged.
“Love me like you would if you were in love with me.”
“I am in love with you.”

Massive boogers.

The final scene before the epilogue had me crying happy/sad tears so much I was a very unladylike/inelegant pile of snot.

F.E. has a way of pulling you into the story that will leave you with so many feels. So many. I cried a lot and cursed at F.E. in the middle of the night when I couldn’t put it down. The HEA is so satisfying. I got my wish not only for Bret and Adam, but for Bret and Jeff as well.

If you haven’t checked out this author’s work yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. You won’t be disappointed.

Dare to Hope (All Cocks #4) by TM Smith

Date to Hope

Blurb

Tristan is the second oldest of the Brennan brothers and the odd man out. Most of the Brennan men have careers in law enforcement, but as a psychiatrist, Tristan chooses to help people in a different way. Quiet and restrained, he is content to hover in the background of his more gregarious brothers. Then he meets two men, each broken and damaged from losses beyond their control.

Gabriel Simenson is mourning his lover’s death. The random act of violence that took Gio’s life has left everyone at All Cocks reeling. The only thing keeping Gabe from drowning in misery is the friendship he’s forged with Micah, the newest model at All Cocks. He continues to struggle, and at the urging of his All Cocks family Gabe agrees to counseling with Tristan under one condition: Micah must go with him.

Micah Solo can relate to unbearable loss, having lost his leg and so much more in Iraq. The past two years he has been alone, adrift and vulnerable — the memories of war haunting his dreams, spilling over into his daily life. At All Cocks, Micah has found the acceptance he craves and the family he lost, but still he yearns for happiness and peace within.

The friendship between the three is instant, the mutual attraction evident. They circle each other, wanting more, yet unsure if it is truly possible. Is life the mundane reality they’ve each come to accept for themselves or do they dare to hope?

The All Cocks Stories is a series set within the world of online gay porn.

*Warning* Micah’s PTSD is told in detail, including flashbacks to his time in Iraq.

What did I think?

The All Cocks series consists of 4 books set in the world of gay porn. It’s blends the behind-the-scenes world of the men behind the porn stars, showing a glimpse of the mechanics of making porn, but more about the relationships of the people when the cameras aren’t rolling.

As I mentioned when I read the first few books, there is an ensemble cast of characters who appear throughout the books, including the three men who own All Cocks, their actors, and other friends. Each book focuses on a main couple, but also the characters who form the friend group. Therefore there are a lot of characters to remember. This perhaps was the biggest challenge for me – keeping the characters straight in my head, and determining the point of view for each scene in the story.

Book 4, Dare to Hope, has a slightly different feel to the earlier books. For a start the sex feels less (not that this is detrimental to the story). There is a strong focus on friendship, and that friendship forming the basis of love. Sex is almost like an after-thought. But I thought this was appropriate, given the specific situation of the three men involved – Micah who is dealing with PTSD, Gabe who is grieving, and Tristan who is grappling with balancing his feelings and his professionalism.

So although I understand the need for a slow progression, I would have liked to see the three men acknowledge their relationship a little earlier in the book. That way there would have been more on-page time of them together in their three-way relationship.

I enjoyed the banter and the dialogue. All in all, very enjoyable.

My Review:

As a Perth native I was keen to see how well an American could write about my home town, and when A.V. asked for my help in betaing I was more than willing to help. I was surprised by this author’s knowledge of Perth and she was able to conjure up some memories of mine with such clarity that made this short story a lovely read. This is a sweet little story about beach life in Australia and some of its inhabitants. A.V. managed to capture the West Australian coastline and daily life with two sweet guys to cap it all off. A recommended read for everyone who loves a Hot, Wet Christmas.

GIVEAWAY & SERIES REVIEW: How to Deal (An All Cocks Story) by TM Smith

How to Deal
An All Cocks
Story Book #3
Jon
Brennan comes from a long line of men in uniform; all born and bred to both
bleed and wear blue. His family and the majority of his co-workers support him
every step of the way, so he doesn’t need to hide the fact that he prefers men
over women. Between the job and his larger than life, loud and rowdy half Irish,
half Italian family, there isn’t much time for dating, much less finding a guy
that can deal with the stress and demands placed on the shoulders of an NYPD
Detective.
Kory
White is cocky and abrasive with most people, but it is all a mirage, a façade
he hides behind to keep his heart safe. As a child, Kory lost his mother to an
act of violence. Soon after, he and his baby sister Kassandra were separated by
the system. Kassandra was immediately adopted, but Kory spent the next ten
years cycling through foster homes before moving to the Big Apple. In an effort
to keep everyone at a distance, Kory has meticulously built himself an alter
ego: Hayden Cox, All Cocks’ cockiest model.
These
two strong willed men definitely prove opposites do attract. Both are stubborn
and hard headed to a fault, Kory more so than Jon. But Jon is used to being in
control, the one calling the shots, and Kory fights him at every turn. Just
when it seems they have found a way to navigate the unchartered territory that
is love, tragedy knocks on Kory’s door yet again. Volatile and strong, even in
the face of adversity, both men refuse to give up on each other – or their
love.

So what did I think?

I have enjoyed the series so far and how the All Cocks’ world was developed. It was like getting a behind the scenes look into the porn industry – the mechanics, the people, the life. I have no idea how accurate it actually was, but it had a true sense of realism that reflected certain real life studios. I understand T.M. Smith spoke with some gay porn stars to gain insight before writing this series.

There is an ensemble cast of characters who appear throughout the books, including the three men who own All Cocks, their actors, and other friends. The characters are well fleshed out, and the dialogue realistic. Of course, there’s sex in the stories. What made this interesting was the varying scenes by main characters, in both their ‘everyday’ persona, and while wearing their porn star mantle. This included each character having their real name and a porn star name. When you add all these names, including the supporting characters, there were a lot of people to keep track of but it wasn’t too hard to do. By the time you get to How to Deal (book 3), the Cast of Characters in the beginning of the book is really helpful. 🙂

Interestingly, each book doesn’t just focus on the main couple (or throuple as the case may be), but gives background to the other characters, including scenes from the point of view of the non-featured characters. I think this is part of getting the reader invested in the characters who will appear in subsequent books.

The stories themselves are interesting, perhaps a touch predictable in some instances, but it kept me turning the pages. All in all, I recommend this series. I think How to Deal was actually my favourite so far and I’m looking forward to reading the rest. Tristan please. 🙂
