frontcoverss

Book Blurb:

When Dylan agreed to take a trip with his mom to a South Carolina campground, he wasn’t expecting much—until he met Sam, the lifeguard at the indoor pool. From that moment on, Dylan and Sam are thrust into a roller coaster of self-discovery. For them, even life’s most ordinary moments—brushing one’s teeth, playing a game of basketball, watching the sky—become precious. Sam’s Story is a poetic and heart melting read.

Guest Post:

Hello readers! My name is Dylan Joseph and I am a 26-year-old gay author. I just published my first book: “Sam’s Story.” The book shows the struggle of growing up gay but it is much more than that. Aren’t you tired of hearing the sad stories about being gay? Sam’s Story is the possibility of love for the gay community. The kind of love the helps you better understand yourself. The kind of love that is not based around sex. The kind of love that we all want in our 20s.

My Coming Out:  It was the spring of 2006 and one of my close friends Lark asked me to go to the high school senior prom. I immediately said “Yes!” It wasn’t until later that day I realized she wanted to go to prom with me. I am gay. It was at this point I realized it was time for me to come out. A few days later I found myself standing in the basement as my mom was practicing piano. “I’m gay.” I said quite bluntly. It was a shock for her certainly but she was absolutely loving and supportive. In fact, all of my family and friends were supportive as the word spread. Within a year of coming out I met my first boyfriend, Krystian. For four years we enjoyed a deeply loving relationship full of beautiful memories and lots of laughs. This is what is like to be a gay youth in the 21st century. Surprised? We are so used to hearing the story about the gay teen that was rejected by his family or even worse— he committed suicide. This is an unfortunate truth and we have the best organizations working on it. One of my favorites is The Trevor Project where I am donating 10% of my book profits. There is a new story emerging that needs to be told. Focusing our efforts on telling a new story of the healthy gay man will create a context for the next generation of gay youth to live into.

Social Constructs:  Why will telling a new story help? A social construct is something that is generally agreed upon. Human beings agree on things through language thus a social construct is created by language. The story that is being told (using language) can impact reality by becoming a social construct. When we look back to Ancient Greece a great example is provided. In Athens, homosexuality was a normal and an integral part of how their society functioned. A male Athenian citizen would take on a younger man, the former being the erastís and the latter being the eranamus. The erastís would be responsible for the eranamus’ formal education including being a scholar, gymnast, artist and warrior. He would also teach the young man to be a lover. This was not a scene out of the bathes but a way of forging a bond so he could be role model. This may not be the ideal way to express homosexuality but this shows that throughout time the social constructs around homosexuality have changed. How do they change? They change by story telling, by language and by agreement.

Looking on the Bright Side:  Currently, the social construct around homosexuality has a few different aspects. Some of the major tones are ideas like: not acceptable, acceptable, a struggle, teasing, bullying, and suicide. It is different depending on where you are living in the country. Generally, it is something like a shell or wall over the gay populations head. Something to break through and something that constantly puts up resistance. We have demonstrated in the streets and in the courts. We have started to break that wall down. We are at a point where we must begin to also tell the positive story of being gay. This is what will make that wall (social construct) disappear for future generations. It may not be gone by time we are gone but we must think bigger then our lifetime. We must be bigger then our own lives and live to strive for the whole of humanity to thrive. So when you talk to the youth and when you share yourself as a gay man support them in their struggle. But really, really stress the marvelous life and joy it is to be a gay man. They will take that and run with it. This goes for our world as well. In the west, we are very lucky and many gay men around the world do not have the opportunity we have. It makes it even more important for us to tell this story.

Sam’s Story:  Sam’s Story is my way of telling my story. Sharing my life, my love and my struggle. It shows not only love on a surface level, but love that is deep and transformative. I believe when you meet a soul mate they help you grow into a better version of yourself. They help you transform old attitudes and past experiences that no longer benefit you. They also bring this love out of you that you have never seen before, a love you can cherish and share. If you are interested in supporting this movement towards a more positive gay future get your copy of Sam’s Story. It could be for yourself or a loved one. Pass on the love and tell the good story.

Susan Mac Nicol’s 2 Year Anniversary Celebration

banner

I love Susan Mac Nicol’s books so it was wonderful to be asked to participate in her Two Year Anniversary celebrations. CONGRATULATIONS, SUSAN! ❤

It got me thinking about Susan’s books so I thought I’d pull a review from the vault and share with you. Here’s my review from November 2013, for one of my favourites, Saving Alexander.

Saving Alexander

The blurb

Punishing himself for a horrific past that is not his fault, bestselling author Alexander Montgomery seeks redemption and love—and perhaps he will find it.

Famous author though he may be, Alexander Montgomery is not someone you take home to meet Mother. Seriously flawed, damaged by a horrific past, he’s trying hard to claw his way back to normality. But how can anyone respect what he truly is? His therapy involves regular sessions at Study in Scarlet, an exclusive S&M club.

Then comes Sage. Tall, with black hair and blue eyes, an up-and-coming actor with impossible charm and boy-next-door good looks, he’s the perfect choice to play the leading man in a TV adaptation of Alex’s last best-seller. Even more, he is a man you introduce to your family. Which Alex would do—if he weren’t taken by another man who offers the punishments Alex prays will wipe away the past and make him the person he wants to be. Yet, perhaps there is another path to redemption. If only the solution would reach out and touch him.

The review

It feels a little strange to be saying how much I loved a book about a man punishing himself for the sins of others but I so much enjoyed this story! Susan Mac Nicol tells a wonderful tale as she pairs a very broken man with the one man who can deliver him a future.

It was heartbreaking to read of Alexander’s torment, of his traumatic past and the way he viewed himself due to the actions of others.“I’m so scared I’ll never be able to have a proper relationship, that I’ll always be on my own because no one wants damaged goods.” As well as seeing a professional psychologist, he chooses to punish himself physically during regular S&M sessions with Eric. These ‘therapy’ sessions are violent and savage and provide a direct contrast to the physical relationship that Alex shares with Sage.

Sage is gorgeous. He is also caring and very compassionate. He is so accepting of Alex’s situation, seeing the man behind the emotional and physical scars. He does make the perfect saviour.

Jealousy does play a role in the story as Sage battles with Alex’s dependency on Eric and there are ramifications as a result of Alex’s changing needs.

The plot is unique with the romance between Alex and Sage paralleling Alex’s involvement with Eric, while events occur putting lives at risk, all set against a backdrop of a TV series film set.

From my heartbreak for Alex, my pure hatred of Eric and my admiration and respect for Sage, this was an emotional journey. Highly recommended!

Do check out the book trailer!

Excerpt

Sage moved toward Alex swiftly and Alex flinched as if he expected him to hit him or worse. Instead, Sage pulled him close, kissing him with a hunger that he hadn’t ever felt before for a man. Alex stiffened at first and then finally relaxed into him, his arms wrapping tightly around Sage’s neck, his mouth devouring Sage’s in a kiss that seemed to swallow him whole. Alex’s hands wound themselves tightly into Sage’s hair as he ground his mouth against his, pressing his body against Sage’s, leaving no doubt how the man felt.

Alex seemed to want to meld them together as one. Eventually they needed to come up for air and when they did, they were gasping at the intensity of their passion for each other.

“Jesus, Sage, I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t think you’d want me after that story,” Alex breathed against Sage’s mouth, driving him even crazier with desire.

Sage thought he might explode there and then. “Does this feel like a man who doesn’t want to be with you?” His voice was low as he ran his hands over Alex’s hips, pressing himself against him.

Both men moaned at feeling their hardness against each other’s stomachs. Alex reached down to caress Sage’s groin.

“God, don’t do that,” Sage groaned. “I’m barely holding it in as it is.”

Alex’s low chuckle made Sage’s control even more difficult as Alex reached out first to turn out the light Sage had originally come to switch off, then to pull Sage over to the two -seater couch in the corner of the office. The room was now pitch dark with only the dim streets lights from outside shining through.

“It’s not the Ritz but it’ll have to do. I so want you to fuck me, Sage. It’s all I’ve been thinking about for weeks,” Alex murmured, unzipping his jeans, tugging them and his silk boxers down over his hips.

His erection sprung out, ready and glistening with moisture. Sage couldn’t take his eyes off it as he yanked down his own pants. Alex reached out and pulled Sage’s shirt over his head, then slid a hand through his chest hair and his shoulders. Sage closed his eyes at Alex’s touch, feeling himself stiffen even more, his breath ragged and deep.

“Christ, Alex,” Sage murmured, knowing his limits and conscious that he’d reached most of them. “I’m not made of bloody steel, and you’ve been driving me crazy for weeks as well.”

“I have to leave my shirt on, Sage.” Alex’s voice was filled with resolve. “I’m not ready to take it off yet.”

Sage nodded. “If that’s what you want.” His hands stroked Alex’s back through the fabric, feeling the play of the man’s muscles beneath his eager fingers. He pushed Alex back onto the studio couch, covering him with his own body, so the men’s cocks were sandwiched together, skin to skin, slickness to slickness.

“No foreplay needed,” Alex whispered in his ear, his breath tickling the sensitive skin . “I just want to feel you inside me. It’s all I want right now.”

About Susan

64729591Susan Mac Nicol is a self confessed bookaholic, an avid watcher of videos of sexy pole dancing men, geek, nerd and in love with her Smartphone. This little treasure is called ‘the boyfriend’ by her long suffering husband, who says if it vibrated, there’d be no need for him. Susan hasn’t had the heart to tell him there’s an app for that…

She is never happier than when sitting in the confines of her living room/study/on a cold station platform scribbling down words and making two men fall in love. She is a romantic at heart and believes that everything happens (for the most part) for a reason.  She likes to think of herself as a ‘half full’ kinda gal, although sometimes that philosophy is sorely tested.

Lover of walks in the forest, theatre productions, dabbling her toes in the cold North Sea and the vibrant city of London where you can experience all four seasons in a day , she is a hater of pantomime (so please don’t tar and feather her), duplicitous people, bigotry and self righteous idiots.

In an ideal world, Susan Mac Nicol would be Queen of England and banish all the bad people to the Never Never Lands of Wherever -Who Cares. As that’s never going to happen, she contents herself with writing her HEA stories and pretending, that just for a little while, good things happen to good people.

Meanwhile, Ezra, one of Phil’s team members, is dealing with his own roller coaster ride of a week.

And Mark, the homophobic boss…

Perhaps, with a little… luck, the next week will be better.

Interview

Thanks for joining us today, Jeff. Congratulations on our new release.  We are also happy to have the opportunity to ask you some questions.

I love the cover of Speedy Rewards. How do you go about achieving a cover that captures the spirit of your story? Is it difficult to find the ‘right’ characters to appear on the cover?

Jeff: First of all, thank you for hosting me on your blog and participating in our blog tour. Sharing my work with you is a privilege and an honor. I appreciate the exposure, and even more than that, I’m grateful to the readers who’ve supported me.

When it comes to book covers, my artistic talent is strictly limited to conceptualization. When it comes to execution, however, I fail miserably. If it were up to me to design covers, they’d all feature drawings of stick people.

In spite of my limitations, I’ve been privileged to work with some extremely talented artists. In the case of the Speedy Rewards cover, the publisher allowed me to select my own models for the cover. I had a vision for the cover and they pretty much nailed it. I’m very pleased with the background, the main characters, and all the intricate details.

I think most of us have probably pined over a lost love, and some of us recover better than others. Where did the inspiration for this story come from?

Jeff: Prior to publishing my first novel, I had worked in a retail environment my entire life. More specifically, I’d managed a convenience store like the one depicted in Speedy Rewards for nine years. I witnessed so many interesting situations and encountered so many remarkable people, that I always felt that someone could write a very entertaining novel about all I’d experienced. Finally I decided that the “someone” would be me.

On a typical day, how much time would you spend writing? Describe your writing environment.

Jeff: I’m not sure I have a typical day. I write when I feel inspired to do so. In the past I tried using word count goals and failed miserably. I honestly don’t understand how any writer can decide they will devote x amount of time to writing. It’s either there or it’s not. I’ve been so inspired by a story idea I’ve worked around the clock, and contrarily there are times I just can’t seem to write anything.

Are you a night owl or a day person? How many hours sleep do you get?

Jeff: I guess I’m kind of both because I stay up late and wake up early. I’ve never required a lot of sleep, four to five hours per day.

What book is currently on the bedside table?

Jeff: Well, I don’t read in bed. I do read quite a bit, though, using my Kindle e-reader. I’m currently reading a Wayward Ink Publishing story called Love Cubed by Eddy LeFey.

Share with us one secret or snippet from Speedy Rewards, that isn’t from the blurb or excerpt.

Jeff: The blurb doesn’t say too much about one of my favorite characters, Doreen. She’s rather complicated in that she’s portrayed as an extremely flawed sympathetic secondary character. She’s a practicing witch who also lives a BDSM lifestyle as a dominatrix. Only five feet tall, she pretty much thinks she’s bad ass (you know, like how those little Chihuahuas are; they think they’re the biggest, baddest dog on the block). She drinks vodka out of her thermal cold beverage refill mug… while on the clock. And she loves to smoke weed in her free time. Huge gay rights activist and a major supporter of the store manager, Phil, who’s the openly gay main character of the novel. Oh, and one other thing, Doreen’s pet (or submissive) is a pre-op transgender woman who loves pain.

One of them, Willem, is exiled to the surface… Alone and struggling to survive, Willem embarks on an epic journey, making a discovery that could once again alter the future of humanity. Power corrupts, absolute power…

One of the main topics of Willem of the Tafel is power. Mavuto, the leader of the Tafel is obsessed with power, and we all know what absolute power does to us. I’ve always wondered why that is so, what makes people value their own power so highly that they are willing to go to such great lengths. I’m not the first to be occupied with this topic, of course, and it is undoubtedly an interesting one.

Table_Mountain-003 (2)Willem, on the other hand, has power thrust at him against his will. He doesn’t seek it, he doesn’t want it, but has no choice. I use an analogy to the South Africa of our time and the rainbow nation’s first president, Nelson Mandela. He left the presidency after just one term, never having sought it, valuing the time he had left on this planet so much that he wanted to spend it on things that really matter: family, his wife.

His successors are bound by the constitution which limits their terms to two, but we can see how some presidents don’t care about even constitutions, e.g. in Burundi, where hundreds of people die, fighting to uphold the constitution against a president seeking a third term in office. FIFA and Mr. Blatter is another good example. A really old man who believes that the world cannot spin without him at the helm. What makes people believe that? Megalomania? The president of Zimbabwe is another example, and I could go on and on.

In the novel, we see how humanity has learned to deal with the challenge of power in different ways. The Tafel society almost crumbles under their corrupt leader, while the societies above the surface have adopted a model with very weak states. I provide no answers, because I don’t have any, but it is certainly worth contemplating, even within the covers of a love story.

A Story Is Born

My favorite part of writing is the tingle that starts in the back of your head as synapses come together to form an idea. Something – a random thought, a song you’ve heard, an image you’ve seen or that has just popped in your head – starts a tidal wave that grows and sweeps away everything. It’s then that the first faint flutters of a story take shape. As you stand there in awe, or walk down the street with music blaring in your ears, the skeleton is slowly covered by muscles and veins and skin, and once it’s all ready to take its first deep breath, its heart starts to beat. Tentatively at first, then stronger with every thump. Once it opens its eyes and lets you look inside, weaving threads together, dusting off hidden corners, making it all better, you know you’ve got another fictional baby to care for.

With a smile curving your lips and a certain delighted glint in your eyes, you rush to the first available keyboard or pen and paper and start writing it. As words flood the pages, the story becomes sharper, more defined, its population grows and it slowly finds its rightful way among the other tales you’ve created.

The sensation is always a little different, yet the thrill is just as powerful every time. So is the feeling of being grateful that your creative well is not dried up and still provides you with fresh nourishment. How will others see it? Will they love it as much as you? Will they understand the desperate rush to get it all out, to share it with them? If the story grips them, takes them prisoners while they read it, then they will.

As I am very visual when creating my stories, that initial phase when I sketch everything in my head, when the plot and characters step forward from the shadows, will always be my favorite. It’s like directing movies in your head with a bunch of very opinionated actors that sometimes demand you change the movie to take them where they were always supposed to be.

That does not mean I don’t enjoy every other aspect of writing: the struggle of doing justice to what I’ve seen, the cathartic moment when you write ‘The End,’ the editing and rewriting, the publishing, and the first readers sharing opinions. However, those first few pieces coming together in the beginning, giving spark to what will become my next story, will always make me the happiest.

Excerpt:

It was nine o’clock. They’d long lost the reservation. Hunter turned away from the warm lights of the restaurant, heart heavy. Shawn was too good to be true. For all he knew, he had a problem like Jerry’s, who’d often left him waiting, wondering, and ultimately fearing as dinner sat cold on the table. He gave in and took a step toward home.

“Hunter!”

He whipped around.

Shawn rushed toward him. He slipped on the snowy sidewalk, nearly going down, but Hunter ran at him, and they crashed together so hard his teeth clicked. Shawn’s arms went around him and his around Shawn, and they managed to hold each other up.

“I’m sorry,” were the first words out of Shawn’s mouth.

“All you deserve is pizza crusts,” Hunter mock-growled and kissed him, unconsciously trying to taste booze on his breath. Like Jerry and too many broken promises. Relieved it was only peppermint mouthwash, he didn’t stop kissing him.

When Hunter let him speak, Shawn said, “I’m starving, I’ll take it.” He pushed Hunter a little away from him. “Jesus. You’re freezing.”

“And starving. There’s a Greek pizza place down this way, come on—”

“I’ll make it up to you,” he said, taking Hunter’s hand.

As if starting a new job, picking up the reins of a disorganized former colleague, and moving back in with his parents while he saves for a down payment on a house of his own isn’t enough, Cecil Trace has just discovered that part of the Art Director’s job at the exclusive Linwood Academy is putting on a series of holiday pageants…with the first one celebrating Thanksgiving just three short weeks away.

He’s got enough on his hands getting reluctant students ready to wow their parents and the community with their brilliance, and preparing a holiday showing of his own artwork at a local gallery, he doesn’t need recalcitrant but brilliant math instructor Reese Cavelli arguing about every little detail.

While Reese understands the new Art Director’s urgency, he can’t allow Cecil to undermine his authority with the students. Reese can’t help being an ass to the new art director, and he knows in part his behavior is due to his own insecurities, but it’s also got a lot to do with the fact that the vibrant young artist is so damned sexy in his jeans and bohemian shirts. Every time he comes into contact with Cecil Trace, he finds himself

Excerpt:

The store doors whooshed open and a wave of cold air enticed him inside. The silver gum wrapper nagged at the back of his mind, but he was determined. No more picking up after other people. Not after coming in early and staying late and spending all his planning periods cleaning up Torey Crowe’s disaster of a classroom over the last week.

Pulling out his smartphone, he called up a list of items he needed and swung a cart out of the corral. He knew the store like the back of his hand, but it seemed unusually crowded this Sunday. Ducking into an aisle to detour around a woman who appeared to have at least six two-year-olds in her charge, he nearly collided with another cart. Cursing, he veered to the left quickly. Too quickly as he wound up hitting a hanging display of sandwich containers in gaudy plastic colors.

“Fuck!” Instantly, he backed up a little and bent to retrieve the objects that had fallen from the display. Something rammed into his backside and sent him sprawling forward onto the dirty linoleum. “Fuck!” he snarled, catching himself with his hands and pushing upright.

“Oh, excuse me.”

The pleasant baritone irritated him even more, because it seemed familiar. Spinning about, he found himself face-to-face with the devil himself. Or temptation. The man who’d hit him with the shopping cart was stooping to pick up the sandwich containers, and Reese didn’t have a very clear view of him, but what he saw was enough to make his cheeks burn even brighter and his heart falter just a bit before racing.

Golden hair, in a long, straight sheet fell forward over his face, long…too long for a man, really. Reese tried to sneer, but his fingers twitched again, and he wanted to reach out and push that hair back behind the man’s ear to see what sort of face it hid. He had an impression of slenderness, caught a glimpse of faded denim, and a shirt that looked a hell of a lot like his sister’s baby doll pajamas before his cock swelled. Embarrassed, he jerked his own cart and trotted down the aisle. “Watch where you’re going!” he choked out, racing for the produce department.

Author Bio:

Somewhere in a small town in up-state New York are a librarian and a second grade teacher to whom I owe my life. That might be a touch dramatic, but it’s nevertheless one hundred percent true.

Because they taught me the joy of reading, of escaping into worlds crafted of words.

Have you ever been nine years old and sure of nothing so much as that you don’t belong? Looked at the world from behind glasses, and wondered why you don’t fit?

Someone hands you a book, and then you turn the page and see… There you are, running from Injun Joe in a dark graveyard; there you are fencing with Athos; there you are…beneath the deep blue sea- marveling at exotic creatures with Captain Nemo.

I found myself between the pages of books, and that is why I write now. It’s why I taught English and literature for so many years, and it’s why my house contains more pounds of books than furniture.

If I’d had my way, I’d have been a fencer…or a starship captain, or a lawyer, or a detective solving crimes. But instead, I am a writer, and I’ve come to realize that’s the best thing in the world to be, because as a writer, I can be all those things and more.

If I hadn’t learned to value the stories between the pages, who knows what would have happened? Certainly not college…teaching…or writing.

David Weller thought he had it all—a loving partner who gave him a ring, a steady job he didn’t hate, and so much hope for the future. But in the wake of a devastating diagnosis, everything he thought was solid and real lay in pieces at his feet.

Four years later, he’s still sifting through the rubble of his life. His catering partnership occupies his days, while his nights are filled with dangerous sexual hookups and very bad decisions. Then the last person he ever expected to see again walks back into his life.

Owen Hart’s single biggest regret is the way he was forced to leave David behind—no explanations, no chance to make it right. Until now. Finally free of eight years of lies, Owen’s back for the only man he’s ever loved.

An incendiary encounter in a club proves that time hasn’t weakened their physical connection, but David’s wounds run deeper than Owen’s deception. And if David can’t first forgive, Owen doesn’t have a second chance in hell.

Warning: This book contains an Australian transplant with a head full of secrets, a party planner with enough baggage to sink a battleship, and a surly teenager who just wants them both to get over themselves.

Stand by You:

Three months after his rescue from an abusive boyfriend, twenty-two-year-old Romy Myers has landed his first legitimate job—bussing tables at his friend’s new coffee shop. The job has brought him some stability after years of abuse have left him feeling damaged and broken. He’s working hard on his panic and social anxiety, and those things are often tempered by the big, burly presence of Brendan Walker.

From the moment ex-football player Brendan helped rescue Romy from his ex’s abuse, he’s wanted to protect him. And he does, from a distance, with joking text messages, a new gym routine to toughen him up and a genuine friendship. So far it’s been easy—but Brendan’s feelings aren’t just friendly anymore…

When an argument spirals out of control, a hot and heavy make-out session causes Romy’s friendship with supposedly straight Brendan to reach a new level. The last thing Romy wants is to fall for another guy who could potentially shatter him, but Brendan also wakes up a part of him he thought had been destroyed by violence—his heart.

Excerpt:

Foundation of Trust:
A shadow drifted across Owen’s face—the same shadow that had been there almost constantly that first year. An angry shadow that had diminished under the brilliance of their love for each other. “We had to, me and my son both. Michael was born Benjamin Hadley Swenson.”

“But why?” David needed to know why he’d been lied to for so long. Why he’d fallen in love with a man whose name he never really knew.

“To protect us from the man who killed Michael’s mother and grandfather.”

“You told me his mother was killed during a home invasion.”

“I used parts of the truth to fashion the lie. Makes it easier to remember. She was killed by a man who had no business in that house, but he wasn’t there to rob anyone. He was a dangerous man, and I did what I had to do to protect my son.”

 Stand By You:

“So make a plan for yourself.” Romy was getting excited over the idea of Brendan going back to college—maybe because Romy had never gone and probably never would. He didn’t even have his GED. And here he was giving Brendan career advice when the longest job he’d ever held in his life was as a hooker. “Figure out what it will cost to go back and finish. Figure out how you’ll save the money. Nothing is impossible, Bren, not if you want it bad enough.”

Brendan looked at him, chocolate brown eyes catching his, and something in that moment changed. Like a snap or a zing, Romy couldn’t describe it. Only that his words had touched something in Brendan, and that something leapt across the space between them and right into Romy. His pulse raced.

Oh crap.

Romy broke eye contact first, using the untwisting of his bottle cap as an excuse to kill the odd charge between them. Not happening. Not again, and not with Brendan. Brendan wasn’t even gay!

Was he?

A.M. Arthur was born and raised in the same kind of small town that she likes to write about, a stone’s throw from both beach resorts and generational farmland. She’s been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long, in a losing battle to make the fictional voices stop. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance hadn’t been coined yet back then) and “The Young Riders” with her later discovery of and subsequent love affair with m/m romance stories.

When not exorcising the voices in her head, she toils away in a retail job that tests her patience and gives her lots of story fodder. She can also be found in her kitchen, pretending she’s an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.

Life for Charlie Sutton has never been better, or busier. With Travis now a permanent fixture of Sutton Station, a permanent fixture at Charlie’s side, Charlie’s convinced he couldn’t do anything on his ever-growing to-do list without him.

He can run a multimillion dollar cattle business, finish his degree, try and further the local beef industry, deal with staff issues, Ma’s failing health, and an attention-demanding wombat. He can even deal with an unexpected visitor and some shattering news.

He can deal with it all, as long as he has Travis.

But what happens when he doesn’t?

Red Dirt Heart 3 is the story of Charlie Sutton finally realising he can be the man Travis Craig deserves, even if he doesn’t have Travis. It’s a story of love, family, holding on, letting go and coming home.

Excerpt:

We climbed into the ute and Travis drove, only mumbling under his breath once or twice about what side of the road he was on. I thought we were headed to find something to eat, but he pulled up at a pet store.

“What are we doing?”

“You’ll see,” was all he said as he was getting out.

I followed him into the pet shop, past the puppies, fish and birds down to the kennels and produce. When he stopped at cat beds, I shook my head. “Oh, no no no. We’re not getting a cat. We used to have one, it lived in the shed and the bloody thing was feral.”

He didn’t even look at me. “It’s not for a cat, Charlie.” He picked up a cushion-box looking thing with a hole in the front. The label called it a cat igloo. “It’s for your damn wombat.”

“Oh,” I said brightly. “Well, that’s okay then.”

He pushed Nugget’s new bed into my chest. “So he sleeps in his bed, not ours.”

A sales guy, about eighteen years old, walked up and was looking at us funny. He probably just heard what Travis said, and I didn’t care. I just shrugged, guessin’ that I’d come a long way in the last six months. “How did I know he’d think it was playtime?”

Travis sighed and turned to the sales assistant. “Do you have any feed pellets for wombats?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Wombats?”

I nodded. “Yep, you know, ‘bout this big,” I held up my hands to show him, “shape of a brick, cute little thing.”

Travis took a god-fucking-help-me breath. “About a year old, pain in the arse, stubborn as hell, boot-chewin’, gets into everything type of wombat.”

Who am I?

Good question…

I am many things: a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer.

I have pretty, pretty boys who live in my head, who don’t let me sleep at night unless I give them life with words.

I like it when they do dirty, dirty things… but I like it even more when they fall in love.

I used to think having people in my head talking to me was weird, until one day I happened across other writers who told me it was normal.

I’ve been writing ever since…

Blurb:

Officer Shawn Everly patrols the Strip and one night, fireman Trent Marshall saves him when danger strikes. But it’s still uncertain whether Trent can save himself from getting his heart broken by Shawn.

The party never ends on the Las Vegas strip but neither does the danger. Officer Everly is new to the beat, having recently relocated to Vegas from Los Angeles. Foot patrol on the Strip is a demanding assignment because he’s up close and personal with the public. But what he’d really like to do is get up close and personal with Station 32’s hunky fireman, Trent Marshall.

Trent has been a fireman for over ten years and is dedicated to his job. He’s built tough and is a no-nonsense man of few words. At a local blood drive, Trent meets the handsome new officer on foot patrol but won’t let himself get too close. He’s lost love before when his policeman lover was killed in the line of fire.

During an emergency, Trent’s over-protective instincts kick in when he believes Shawn is in harm’s way. He ends up embarrassing and angering Shawn in front of their fellow officers, which seems as though it will end any hope of Trent having a chance with the young man he can’t push from his mind. Shawn can’t decide whether he wants to punch or kiss Trent. Kissing wins. Once they spend some time together away from the stresses of their jobs, they find that they’re not just compatible—they’re combustible.

But Trent can’t seem to accept that there are hazards that come with working in law enforcement. Right as they’re discovering how much they mean to one another, the danger escalates on the Strip. The underground vigilante group, The Citizens Against Immorality, have raised the stakes. Will Shawn and Trent be their next targets?

Excerpt:

He noted the startled look on Shawn’s face as he tugged at the hem of Shawn’s shirt while simultaneously unbuttoning the top of his shorts with one hand.

“Help me out.”

Shawn nodded again with a somewhat dazed expression and pulled the tee over his head as Trent yanked his shorts down. He wrapped his arms around Shawn’s thighs to keep him from tumbling over, manipulating him the way he needed him. Glad that Shawn had left his boots in the entryway, he was able to bring the dusty socks along for the ride as he removed the remainder of Shawn’s clothing. At last Shawn was naked.

The way he should always be in my home.

If he hadn’t already been sporting an erection of steel, the thought of Shawn’s constant nudity would have done it. He stood, noting the light blush across Shawn’s torso, in his face. His chest rose and fell rapidly. But it was his hard rosy crowned cock that drew Trent’s gaze. He was average length, but thick and gorgeous. Moisture leaked from the tip, even as it seemingly twitched of its own accord. Trent couldn’t keep his hands off.

Shawn drew in a sharp breath as soon as Trent encircled his stiff column of flesh. He licked the side of Shawn’s neck, tasting the salt of his dried sweat. As he softly stroked him, he wanted nothing more than to bend Shawn over the end of the bed and plunge into his sweet ass, but he would take his time. They still had the rest of the day and evening, it was early yet, and he planned on savoring their first sexual experience together

M/M and M/M/F Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys a good saucy tale – after all, who doesn’t? Since she loves several genres, you may find your heroes in a contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi setting. One of her passions is bringing people’s fantasies to life on the page, because life is too short for even one boring moment. Her stories are volcanic in heat, deep in emotion, and sprinkled with doses of humor.

When not indulging in her obsession for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. The Pacific Northwest is the ideal spot to enjoy both hiking and beachcombing. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She now resides on the northern coast of Oregon, where the constant rain and fog remind her of visits to family in England and Scotland when she was a child.

She is currently working on the Sin City Uniforms Series and a BDSM spin-off to the Gin & Jazz series entitled The Hampton Road Club. A follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey’s story in Rockin’ the Alternative will be available in 2015.
