GUEST POST: The Wounded Warrier by BA Tortuga

Cowboys and Soldiers, oh my!

Hey, y’all! I’m BA Tortuga, and I write cowboys and rednecks. A lot. No, really. I love a man in Wranglers, and I hail from Texas, so I love to set stories in and around my old hometown. In fact, you could say cowboys are my brand, my stock in trade, and what readers have come to expect from me.

That’s why when I set out to write Wounded Warrior, I was a little worried. I didn’t have a cowboy, really. Luke is an ex-soldier, and Rory is a legal eagle who’s dabbling in real estate for the moment. Now, they’re both Texans. Lifelong. Hardcore. But neither are cowboys. At least not at the beginning, and I feared that would turn people right off the story.

See, Wounded Warrior was important to me because most of the men in my family were in the military at some point. Most of them men, and some of the women, of my wife’s family served. And every day we hear stories of soldiers coming home with very real injuries, with terrible PTSD, and with troubles re-entering society. I wanted to represent those people, to show that they’re important, not people to forget or ignore. I wasn’t sure how to do it within the kinds of stories I write, but I was determined. Trust me, y’all, when I’m determined, I get the job done. That’s the cowboy in me.

So I set out to write Luke’s story, and in the process, I realized he was learning to be a cowboy. He learns to care for horses from his brother Matt. He learns to cowboy up from his family and his newfound friends. He learns that he can be a stubborn ass and people will still love him, which is definitely a cowboy trait…

I do love the breed, but I have no illusions about them.

Another surprise for me was how Rory stepped up in the book, as well. He’s got just as many issues as Luke, if for different reasons. He didn’t fight the same war, but he’s wounded all the same, and he’s working hard to make things right, and to get his life going exactly where he wants it.

I guess the story is all about recovery. Luke and Rory have the potential to heal each other a lot, which really makes me happy.

By the end of the story, I felt like I had three cowboys on my hands. Matt, Luke’s brother, who’s the reason the ranch gets going in the first place, became way more of the story than I expected. He was a cowboy from the get go, and he becomes a mentor to both Luke and Rory in a lot of ways. But Luke and Rory also measured up to the painfully honest, loving, stubborn cowboys I know and love so well.

I loved writing these boys, exploring some themes near and dear to my heart. I hope y’all will take a chance on them, too.

Much love, y’all.

BA Tortuga bio:

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the  high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

When Luke’s lost everything, the only thing to do is head back home to the ranch and pray that he finds his way again.

When Navy SEAL Luke Blanchard comes back to Northeast Texas after a devastating injury, he feels like the whole world has gone dark. In a wheelchair and feeling worthless, Luke has no idea what to do, even as his twin brother Matt is determined to lift him up and help him heal.

Rory McConnell is a local prodigy, a real estate lawyer with a plan to buy up land before his bitter rival can collect it. When the Blanchard ranch goes into the red, he offers to buy out the debt. Luke backs his brother instead, but he doesn’t believe for a minute that Rory is a bad guy. No one that sexy and fun can be, right?

As Luke claws his way out of depression with a crazy idea to run a therapy ranch, he and Rory start to explore the need growing between them. Will Rory’s need for revenge against a man who damaged him forever come between them, or will it be the force which brings these two wounded men together for good?

Reader Advisory: This book contains fragmented recollection of gang-rape which happened off-screen several years earlier.

GUEST POST and GIVEAWAY: Catch and Release by BA Tortuga

catch-and-release-banner

GUEST POST

Hey y’all! I’m BA Tortuga, resident redneck and lover of all things cowboy!

It was fascinating to write a lawyer for Catch and Release, one whose job actually has a real function in the story. Jayden is a real estate law expert now, but he used to be a prosecutor. This was really important to the story, because Jayden had to be able to look into Dakota’s case, and to be knowledgeable about that area of criminal law.

I have to tell y’all, I got the idea for Catch and Release watching Cold Case Files. They did a special, and then a spin off series about sexual assault. I was surprised, and yeah, appalled at how many rape kits go untested, which is one of the things that happened with Dakota.

In fact, the whole system surrounding assault is depressing, so I’ll suggest y’all look into it yourself if you’re interested, and let Jayden jabber about his weirdest cases, instead.

Jayden:  *waves* Hey, y’all! I worked for Travis county as a prosecutor for a long time. Now, don’t tell on me, but I’ll tell you a few of my weirdest cases.

I once had to prosecute a kid who beat his best friend near to death because, he said, a Ouija board told him to. Nope, not kidding. He was hanging out in the game room of a friend’s home, playing with the Ouija board. Apparently, it told him to kill his buddy… That is one powerful Ouija if it made him do it. He did not get the jury to agree.

The weirdest murder case I ever worked was when a woman convinced her husband to kill her neighbor. The motive? He was psychically raping her. You know, you can’t make this shit up. She and the husband both went to jail for a long while.

Finally, I did a theft case where the robber had cleared out someone’s house completely of electronics, then decided he needed a nap. When the homeowner came home, the guy was asleep on his couch. He called the cops. Needless to say, this one didn’t even go to trial…

Bottom line is people do weird shit. Most of it isn’t that funny, but life is a wondrous thing, and you have to laugh, right?

XXOO

Jayden

Jayden is a pretty well-adjusted guy. Or so he likes to think. I bet he learns a good deal about himself in Catch and Release!

Much love, y’all.

Synopsis

Dakota Landry just got out of prison after twelve years. If anyone can understand how that feels, it’s his new friend, Sage, who is determined to help him get used to life on the outside—and believes Dakota didn’t commit the crime he was in for.

Jayden Wilson is a former prosecutor who agrees to look into the case at the request of Sage’s lover, Adam. He sets out to prove Dakota is just another “innocent” ex-con, but once they meet, Jayden is more and more convinced Dakota just didn’t do what everyone thinks he did.

Trouble follows Dakota, and nothing is easy as he struggles to figure out how to live, now that he has choices. And Jayden isn’t sure how Dakota, or any lover for that matter, fits into his life. Their path from friendship to romance is a slow one, but Dakota begins to believe he deserves a chance at life, and Jayden falls a little more for Dakota every day. Now they just need to tell each other how they feel.

Excerpt

“One wallet with six dollars and eighty-three cents. One pair of jeans, T-shirt, pair of boots. Belt with buckle. Sign here.” The paper bag was shoved over to him, and Dakota Landry scratched his signature on the paper, his hand shaking harder than he wanted to admit.

One wallet with six dollars and eighty-three cents.

One pair of Wranglers.

Twelve years, three months, and eight days.

Dakota sighed and rolled his shoulders. The Unitarians had donated a gently worn pair of tennis shoes, a button-down from the Walmart, and a pair of new jeans, which hung on his scrawny ass like a bad costume. They were what he had, though. He’d lost seventy pounds since he was twenty, and he read way more bull rider than bulldogger these days.

The rest of the processing flew by, and he walked out of the gate half an hour later, blinking at the late-afternoon sun. He was gonna puke.

He had a suitcase of his shit from his cell and this paper sack and….

A white pickup pulled up, the window rolling down to expose this weathered face peering out from under a straw brim. “You Landry?”

“Yessir.” He braced himself, waiting for a barrel to appear from the window. God hated him, he had no doubt, and it would be just like the evil bastard to have one of the McCarthys come to shoot him as soon as he walked outside as a free man.

It wasn’t a pistol that appeared, though. It was a gnarled cowboy hand. “Sage. Sage Redding. You want a ride, man?”

A lump lodged in his throat. Sage. Okay, he knew this guy from letters and the occasional call. When he knew he was getting out, he’d been assigned… what? Sage was no counselor. He was a godsend, though. “I do, yeah.”

“Cool. Come on. Let’s get the fuck out of here.”

“Please.” He climbed up into the truck, breathing in the smell of horseshit and Old Spice and hay, and suddenly he was thirteen again and had a whole summer in front of him and all these dreams and….

“Hey.” The word was short and sharp, dragging his attention right to Sage’s face. “Stay here. Stay with me, man. You start thinking and the fucking world goes straight to shit.”

“I just….”

“We’ll go to the next town over, and we’ll grab some burgers and a Coke. You ain’t a vegetarian, are you?”

“I’m pretty fucking sure they put all of them in minimum security.”

Sage hooted, the sound natural as breathing. “I bet so.”

“Thanks. I didn’t expect….” He hadn’t known what to expect. He had the numbers for the Salvation Army and a halfway house, neither of which he intended to call.

“No sweat. I been there.”

“Yeah.”

Manslaughter, Sage had said, and the man never once claimed to be innocent. But he was out and living on a ranch, doing his parole and writing prisoners in this exchange deal. Dakota wasn’t sure what the fuck Sage got out of it, but it looked good to the parole board, and to his credit, Sage had written a letter to them.

Sorta like the murderers speaking for the rapists. Whoopdi-fucking-doo.

About RJ Scott

My goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.

I’ve been writing since age six, when I was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies and a mixing bowl. You can’t tell a six-year-old not to lick the bowl!

I was told to write a story, and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.

As an avid reader myself, I can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, my first real true love will always be the world of romance. I love my cowboys, bodyguards, firemen, and billionaires (to name a few), and I love to write dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between them. (Yum.)

BLOG TOUR, GIVEAWAY AND INTERVIEW! Destined Prey by Bailey Bradford

960x350

Thank you for joining us! This book was written as a fundraiser for Peyton Hollingsworth, a family friend of Bailey’s who has been diagnosed with cancer.

*All proceeds and royalties from this book will be donated to help pay the medical bills for Peyton Hollingsworth. While he is currently being treated at St. Jude’s for Ewing’s Sarcoma, and treatment there is free, there are accumulated bills from his treatment and diagnosis before being sent to St. Jude’s.

About Peyton:

Peyton is a funny, loveable 10-year-old boy. He loves playing outside, riding go-karts, and Batman.

This morning we found out he has cancer.

Peyton’s mom, Cherri, took him to the hospital yesterday for trouble breathing. They were told he had a collapsed lung. After testing and labwork Cherri was told this morning (4/21/2015) that Peyton has a mass in his lung, back, and its spreading. They are now at St Judes waiting for the biopsy to take place.

I am a family friend who is very close to Peyton’s family. Any and all donations made will go towards travel, medical, and housing expenses so that his family can stay close.  His parents, Dave and Cherri, will most likely be missing work to stay with Peyton.

I will keep updating this as we get more information. We should know more within a few days, but I wanted to go ahead and get a jump start on this, so that we can help his family finincially, so this will be one less thing that they have to stress about.

If you’d like to help, a Go Fund Me campaign has been set up: https://www.gofundme.com/okwdr0

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and donations.

Wild Ones book 1

 Destined Prey

All Jack Tucker wanted was to come home for a little while and try to figure out where his life had gone wrong. Moving from Wyoming to New York hadn’t turned out the way he’d thought it would, and a bad breakup leaves him bruised in more than just the emotional sense.

He doesn’t expect to be glad he’s back on the Double T Ranch with his brother, Rhett, and he sure doesn’t expect to find the place crawling with coywolves, wolves, and coyotes. There seems to be some kind of animal-warfare going on, and he and Rhett are caught in the middle of it.

Coywolves—the hybrid of wolves and coyotes, hated by both, and more predatory than either. Add in the fact that all the battling species are shifters, and there’s bound to be trouble.

Ben Akers is part of his brother’s pack. The only coywolf shifters in existence, they find themselves under constant attack from wolf and coyote packs determined to make the Akers pack extinct. But coywolves don’t die out so easy, and when Ben’s life takes a surprising turn in the form of one sexy human named Jack Tucker, they’re both in for surprises, danger, and, if Destiny rules, an abiding love that most people—and shifters—only dream of.

Pages or Words: 43,000 words

Categories: Erotica, Gay Fiction, Humor, M/M Romance, Paranormal, with a dash of Western/Cowboy.

Excerpt:

Jack Tucker watched his brother retrieve the rifle from the gun cabinet in the office. “Um. Rhett? What’re you doing?”

Rhett didn’t even glance back at him as he loaded the gun. “What does it look like I’m doing? You been living in the city so long you forgot how a Wyoming rancher lives?” Then he did look over his shoulder at Jack, and Jack kind of wished he hadn’t.

He hated seeing that judgment in his brother’s eyes, and knowing he’d never be good enough for Rhett, never be the man his brother was. “No,” Jack mumbled, “I didn’t forget.”

Rhett sighed and turned until he faced Jack. “Look, that was uncalled for. I’m… I’m sorry, okay?”

Jack was so startled by the apology that he gulped and couldn’t think of a word to say.

Rhett grimaced. “Yeah. Well, okay. Gotta check on some tracks Eddie said he found leading from his property to ours. I’ll be back in a few hours.” He left, striding from the room without seeming to hesitate.

Jack groaned and closed his eyes. Of course Rhett didn’t hesitate—he never had. Rhett always knew what to do, and how to do it, and who he was, and that he was right… Except, he apologized to me, and it screwed my head right up.

“Worse than it already is,” he muttered. Jack couldn’t stop himself from touching his left side, where his bruised ribs throbbed as the pain meds wore off. He was lucky, very lucky, that Rhett hadn’t pushed him on the accident that had sent Jack running home from New York, and possibly into the unemployment line. His boss hadn’t been happy with Jack taking off, even with a medical note as an excuse. Jack hadn’t told Rhett much about any of that. As far as Rhett knew, Jack had fallen down some icy steps, and that was all he was going to ever know about the incident.

Jack replayed his brother’s apology in his head and somehow it mingled in with Alex’s. Cold fear trickled down Jack’s spine and his gut cramped hard enough to make him worry about the dinner he’d just eaten.

After several minutes of trying to calm himself down, Jack stood and left. He’d wanted to sit and talk with Rhett about finances and try to decide if he should offer to let Rhett buy him out. Jack wasn’t made to be a rancher. He wasn’t made to be a New Yorker, either.

Jack didn’t know what he was supposed to do in life, and at the age of twenty-seven, he kind of thought he should have an inkling.

His cell phone was ringing when he stepped into his bedroom. Without looking, he knew it was Alex calling. “Who else would it be?” he huffed. It wasn’t like he had any friends left.

Rather than check to see how many times Alex had called and how many texts he’d sent, Jack turned the phone off, then stuck it in the nightstand. He eased himself onto the bed, then took a couple of prescription pain meds and washed them down with the rest of the water he’d brought in earlier.

The glass was old and familiar, and he felt a pang of regret as he looked it over after he set it down. Green glass, nothing special about it, yet he remembered so much as he stared.

He could see his mom in the kitchen, fixing a pitcher of tea, talking to him, and listening as he told her about his day at school or the chores he’d had to do around the ranch. She’d always been so kind and understanding, Jack had to believe she’d have been okay with him being gay. He’d spent many afternoons in the kitchen, helping her prepare meals or just basking in her presence. Losing her had almost broken him.

For a few more minutes, he let his mind go back to happy childhood days. His dad wasn’t in nearly as many of those good memories, but Chauncey Tucker hadn’t been a bad man. His dad had been more like Rhett—stoic, focused on the ranch and less on the people around him.

Jack ran one finger around the rim of the glass. He was surprised, really, that there were any of the old things left.

The sound of gunshot startled him so badly he jerked and nearly sent the glass flying.

“Shit!” He winced as he pushed it back, then stood as quickly as he could manage.

Another shot rang out, then a third, and fear quickly overtook every other sensation he’d felt until then.

Rhett had always been an ace shot. If he’d had to use three bullets, then there was something bad outside—a bear or a whole pack of wolves.

Jack didn’t like guns, but he went and got one from the gun cabinet anyway. He loaded it as he walked to the front door, and hoped like hell Rhett wasn’t hurt.

As soon as he stepped outside, the fine hairs at his nape seemed to stand up and vibrate, like some kind of primitive survival instinct warning alert system. Jack froze, his back to the door as his heart slammed hard against his ribs.

Another shot sounded, and it jolted Jack into action. “Rhett! Rhett!” He rushed down the steps and toward the direction the shots had come from. “Rhett! Are you okay?”

When Rhett didn’t immediately answer, Jack ran, careless with the gun, aware of that but unable to make himself do anything other than find his brother as soon as possible.

“Rhett!” He stumbled over something on the ground and almost fell before he managed to flail enough to keep himself upright.

Pain tore down his injured side, but he ignored it as he called out for his brother yet again. He cursed himself for not thinking to grab a flashlight. The sky was overcast and there was no moonlight to assist him in his search, and once he was past the barns there was no light coming from the house or other structures, either.

Jack realized that the cattle in the closest field were making enough noise to drown out his voice or Rhett’s, making it impossible for them to hear each other.

The sounds of the gunshots must have scared the cattle. Jack worried about a stampede, but he’d never seen any of the critters take out a fence, so he dismissed the idea.

“Rhett!” His throat burned as he hollered again.

Lightning streaked across the sky, blinding Jack for a moment, then thunder followed and he couldn’t contain his startled yelp as his ears rang from the sound.

Or his shriek when six pairs of glowing yellow eyes appeared between him and the fence line.

“Shit!” Jack skidded to a halt and hoped he could steady his hands, and force himself to do what he had to do.

Interview:

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Bailey author of Wild Ones book1: Destined Prey.

Hi Bailey, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

  • Tell us something no one else knows about your characters.

Jack has a phobia. Frogs terrify him to no end. He doesn’t share this information because it could be used against him. Even Kermit gives him the heebeegeebees.

Ben likes manga. He is just getting into it, and he’ll tell you he reads auto mechanic books and true crime novels…but he’s got a secret stash of Deathnote and a few other manga series.

  • Have you ever written something that made you cry?

Yes, when *SPOILER ALRET IF YOU HAVEN’T READ SOUTHERN SPIRITS BOOK SEVEN!* Ro died in Ascension comes to mind. There were a few instances in that series where I cried. Happened a time or two in my other series, too.

  • Have you ever co-written with someone before?

Nope.

  • What is the most difficult part of writing for you?

The beginning. I don’t know why, but once I get the first couple of chapters down, I’m good. Usually.

  • Name your four most important food groups.

Wine. Tea. Water. Pizza. Those are MY food groups whether anyone else considers them so or not, lol.

Meet the author:

A few things about me.

I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.

And it’s really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I’ll just let y’all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there’s something specific you’d like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio.

Happy Release Day! BUTTERMILK RANCH by Patricia Logan

 Buttermilk Ranch

Blurb

Wendell Blackowl has spent all his life in the working cow horse show ring where toiling with sweaty cowboys all day is the fodder for wet dreams. Though privately he’s come to terms with his sexuality, publicly Dell’s had to build a façade. When his beloved horse Buttermilk dies, Dell finds himself at loose ends so he decides to pick himself up by his boot straps and do what he’s always wanted to do… open an environmentally friendly organic vegetarian café.

Pace Avila, well known music critic, has been drawn to Austin by the live music scene. When friends invite him to check out a fresh new dinner experience, Pace reluctantly agrees to push the deadline on his national column. He isn’t interested in vegetarian food or a restaurant with the cheesy name of Buttermilk Ranch Café, but the moment Pace lays eyes on the stunning cowboy chef, things begin looking up.

When openly gay Pace walks into his cafe and his life, Dell realizes he’s tired of living a lie and tired of being alone. When Mother Nature throws an unprecedented storm at Austin, the muddy waters threaten to wipe out everything Dell’s worked so hard to build. He soon realizes that with a man like Pace by his side, love really can conquer all.

Excerpt

“Yoo Hoo! Dell, ya up there, ya sidewinder! Get outa bed or I’m gonna drag that lazy ass out!”

“What?” Pace said, startled awake as he lifted his head from Dell’s chest where he’d fallen asleep in the wee hours of the morning. He wiped his face of drool and stared across the muscled chest he loved, finding Dell’s face. He had one eye peeled open and he didn’t look all too happy by what sounded like Branch’s bellowing from downstairs.

“Fuckin’ ass poor timin’,” Dell grumbled as they both sat upright in bed. Pace knew it would be pretty awful if Branch came bursting into the room with them, lying buck naked in bed. “Guess I’d better find out just what the hell he’s doin’ here.” Pace watched as Dell threw his legs over the side of the bed. He watched his ass from behind, noting the muscled expanse of his back and the thick thighs he loved so much, as the man stood.

“What the hell is he doing here? He and the boys had a show,” Pace grumbled.

“Ya rattlesnake! Ya need me to come up there and put my boot up yer ass?” Branch howled. Pace couldn’t help but chuckle. He loved his brother but he loved the disgusted look on Dell’s face more. Dell walked to the doorway and stuck his head out.

“I’ll be down in a minute, ya jackass… unless ya want to see me in all my nekkid glory!” Dell yelled back.

Pace heard a chuckle coming from downstairs. “Hell naw! Get some clothes on there, scarecrow! Yer movin’ slower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.”

“Oh for Christ’s sake, here we go,” Dell said, glancing over at him. Pace just buried his face in the pillow and laughed.

What inspires you or drives you crazy?

I get inspired by gorgeous men with a great sense of humor. A man with a great sense of humor is a man I want to write about and get to know better. I’m also inspired by men who are heroic. I absolutely love them. If they are military or a man in uniform, they absolutely make me drool.

EXCERPT: Hope for Tomorrow by Lei Carol & Eric Thornton

Hope for tomorrow

Blurb

Jed Hendrix has always put family first, doing whatever means necessary to take care his mother and younger brothers to provide for them- even if it meant breaking the law. When things catch up and he ends up in the back of a cop car with cuffs on, the last thing he expected was to be given leniency from the judge and sent to a work release ranch.
Bryson Sandreaux is a horse tamer at Second Chance Ranch. A hardworking cowboy, he doesn’t suspect he would be working with a traumatically damaged man who has more issues than Bryson could keep up with.
Between the two of them, there is tension, but definitely attraction. Is there a chance for love? Or would it all fall apart at the seams?

Excerpt

Jed had better never find out who had beat the kid senseless otherwise he would show the man how it felt. It royally pissed him off when people picked on someone smaller than them.
Maybe it had something to do with the way his dad had always beat his mom. He couldn’t remember a time when the man wasn’t using his fists on either of them. Of course, he couldn’t remember a time the man wasn’t drinking himself into the gutter, either.
Which was the exact reason he wouldn’t touch alcohol. Jed never wanted to lose control like his ol’ man did so often. Hell, he didn’t want to be like the man period. No how, no way.
Now, all he needed to figure out was how to get his brothers and his mother out of the man’s house before she died and his brothers were forced to turn to a life of crime. They were just kids; they didn’t need to worry about where their next meal was coming from or whether his dad was going to beat them just for breathing wrong. They just had to know where they were heading to next and have a chance at life.
As the oldest, it was his responsibility to help his mom take care of them and make sure they were on the straight and narrow but how could he do that from here.
“Hey, Jed, what’s wrong?”
He kept quiet for a moment.
Jerking out of this musings to find Bryson staring at him, worry written all over his handsome face. He could feel his cheeks heat up as the blood rushed to fill the space. Jed couldn’t believe he had allowed himself to lose focus of what he was supposed to be doing. Hopefully, Bryson wasn’t angry with him. The last thing he needed was another reason why someone hated him. He was sure there was at least some part of Bryson that wanted to teach him a lesson or two. Give him the ol’ one—two.
“I’m sorry.” He flinched for a moment. The motion almost offended Bryson. And that was what scared Jed.
“For what? You didn’t do anything wrong. I’ve always been a sucker when a man cries. I usually want to pull them into my arms and do whatever I can to fix the world for them.”
It was as though he was being treated like a normal person, a fresh breath in the right direction. Something that seemed very odd to Jed at first but he slowly accepted it.
Nodding his head in understanding, it took a few minutes for his brain to process exactly had been said. Had Bryson just said what he thought he had heard? Was it possible the man was gay and out?
Rushing to follow him out of the newly clean stall and into the next one, Jed could only stare in bewildered wonder. “Are you gay?”
He couldn’t believe it. Bryson’s cheeks burned crimson as his blush crept up his neck, over his ears and face, all the way into his hairline. It was adorable. Jed had never wanted to pull a man in his arms to kiss him senseless before in his life. But something about Bryson made his animalistic tendencies kick in and had him stiff as a board in his pants. It was then he took note of Bryson’s throbbing erection.
Oh, he had experience. Back-alley jack-off sessions and other guys sucking him off in the dark but he’d never felt the pressure of another man’s lips pressed against his own or the feeling of another man’s cock sliding across his tongue. There was never enough hours in the day, between taking care of his family, trying to find work, and just trying to survive.
“Yeah, Jed, I am. Most everyone on the ranch is gay. If you’re not, it’s cool. No one will care here. We’re chill like that. The boss man hates intolerance so whatever you do while you are here, don’t be hateful or any crap like that.”

GIVEAWAY & EXCERPT: The Dusty Hat Bar by L.J. Hamlin

thedustyhatbar1400

The Dusty Hat Bar

by L.J. Hamlin

Release Date: July 22 2015

Blurb

Noah Kimberly walks into his usual bar, same as he does most Friday nights. It’s surprisingly busy for this time of night, even for a Friday.

Tonight things are different. Tonight Noah will meet Lennie Boyce, the son of Earl Boyce the biggest ranch owner in the area and Noah’s ex boss. His friend and bar owner Dusty might warn him away from the other man, but Noah’s just not sure he can resist this cowboy.

Excerpt

Dusty is behind the bar, and Noah signals him for a beer, trying to shake off his thoughts about the Boyce family. He hasn’t been keeping track of them since he got fired. He sees them around, sure. It’s not that big of a town, and he hears the odd thing. But he hadn’t heard much about Earl’s youngest, Lennie, other than that he was his father’s pride and joy. If Noah was a violent man, he’d punch Lennie in the face just to see what his Daddy would do, but he’s not a violent man and prefers to avoid using his fists unless he has to.

“That’s quite a frown you’ve got going,” Dusty says as he passes him a cold bottle of beer.

“When did Boyce’s boy turn twenty-one?” Noah asks, ignoring the comment about his frown.

“Just today. That’s why him and all his friends are here. Mainly college kids, but if they’re drinking, I’m not complaining.” Dusty shrugs.

“Huh,” Noah says thoughtfully, taking a quick glance at the now seated Lennie.
