NEW RELEASE: Sweet Dreams by Brooke Edwards

Blurb

Benji Crowe runs a little boutique of all things sweet in an out of the way alley, nice and secluded with a loyal clientele that keep him comfortably afloat and not much in the way of foot traffic. Occasionally someone new will find their way in, either on the advice of a regular or by accident.

When the door slams open one day, Benji thinks that his newest customer must just be really hungry. The man who sprints inside isn’t interested in the pastries, though. He snatches the beanie right off the college student sitting closest to the door before throwing himself into a vacant chair and bundling his distinctive blue coat into a ball that just barely makes it into the trash can. Benji is about to give him a piece of his mind when a dozen teenagers pour through the door shouting about Dane Harper, the latest Hollywood box office favorite.

From that moment, Benji could have been forgiven for thinking he’d fallen headfirst into the latest Hollywood box office feature. Luckily, Dane has enough box office experience for the both of them.

Dance by Teodora Kostova

A couple of weeks ago I posted an excerpt from Dance by Teodora Kostova. Click here to see the original post where you can also find details of the Playlist provide by the author and a link to a Giveaway.

I finally got around to reading the book today. I really enjoyed this story, so much so that I read it in a single sitting. What a lovely way to start my weekend – curled up in bed with a good book. I only meant to read a chapter or two while I had my coffee but…..

The Blurb…

Jared Hartley is happy. He has a starring role in a popular West End musical, great friends, adoring fans and his own flat in Central London. A relationship is not something he has ever really wanted. Making big plans for the future is not in his nature – Jared is content with his single status and enjoying all the benefits of that lifestyle.
He doesn’t even realise something is missing in his life.
Until he meets Fenix.

Fenix Bergman has a dream – to perform on Broadway. When he gets offered the lead role in Poison – a new musical based in London, he accepts, immediately recognising the huge potential of the show.

Fenix thinks he has his life completely figured out – he will move to London, help Poison become the new West End hit and bide his time until Broadway comes knocking on his door. He has never wished for anything else but proving to himself and the world that he is a performer worthy of the biggest theatre stage.
Until he meets Jared.

Jared and Fenix’s lives collide and they fill each other’s missing pieces. Neither of them expects to feel so much, so fast for the other.

Neither of them expects to need someone so badly when love hasn’t even been in their plans.

But when Fenix’s star becomes too bright for London, will the dream he’s chased all his life ruin the dream he’s holding in his hands?

Will he survive getting everything he’s ever wanted?

Will Jared?

So what did I think?

Set against the backdrop of the theatre, Dance brings together Fenix, a rising star who dreams of Broadway, and Jared, who is living his dream on the stage in London.

This is a story of a grand romance, the type of love that, when it hits, it hits hard and fast. It’s love at first sight and within days of meeting, Fenix and Jared are in love and inseparable.

“Come home with me,” he said quietly. Fenix hesitated. “Please. I…” he pulled back to look in his eyes. “I want to make love to you in a bed. Not that this wasn’t great, but fast and hard in a club’s toilet is not my idea of romance.”
“I wasn’t aware we were looking for romance,” Fenix replied, his voice teasing.
“Well, now that you are aware, will you come home with me?”

I loved the openness and honesty, the lack of trying to hide feelings, instead grabbing the opportunity for love with both hands and not wasting a minute of being happy – such a great motto for life! And when Jared and Fen are together, it is magic.

There is a lot of sex in the story. These are men with strong feelings who aren’t shy of being emotional but this doesn’t mean it is all gentle loving. Jared and Fen are passionate and their coupling is frequent – at times making love but at others it’s oh, so very hard and dirty!

It’s not all roses for Jared and Fenix and the book has its period of heartache as they make stupid decisions. Their world moves from perfect happiness to one filled with darkness and sorrow. I like how the author managed the choices made by these men and how the same idea of grabbing what life gives you with both hands brings them back together.

The story finishes with a lovely happy ending.

★★★★★ Guarded Desires by Lexxie Couper

This is the third book in the Heart of Fame series and is the first m/m romance. I loved the book, even more so than the first book in the series, but I think I am probably a bit impartial as I have a definite preference for m/m! 🙂

Guarded Desires (Heart of Fame, #3)Guarded Desires by Lexxie Couper

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb…

“Desire like this wasn’t in the script…”

Small-screen sex symbol Chris Huntley is on the fast track to becoming the next big action-blockbuster movie star. When his latest movie takes him to Australia for a red-carpet premiere, he thinks he’s ready for anything.

But nothing could have prepared him for his raw, carnal response to his Aussie bodyguard. Sexual attraction to a man is a first for Chris. Now he realizes why his relationships with women have never felt quite…complete.

Liev Reynolds is comfortable with his bisexuality, but his attraction to Chris is an inconvenience he must ignore. For starters, there’s his professional ethics. Then there’s the long trail of female broken hearts in Chris’s wake.

Hard as they both try to keep their minds on their jobs, desire and a little matchmaking tip them over the edge. But Hollywood endings aren’t real life. And when the truth leaks out, their careers aren’t the only collateral damage.

Warning: A hunky Hollywood sex symbol. A smoldering, stubborn Australian. A desire so powerful it cannot be denied. A kiss. And a photograph. This “isn’t” your normal boy-meets-boy story.

So what did I think?

“A desire and need and hunger that changed everything. Everything.”

I absolutely loved this book – it pressed all the right buttons and was just what I was in the mood for!

For some reason (probably wanting to believe in fairytales), I adore stories where a famous person falls for an ordinary guy. Ok, so Liev wasn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill guy, at least not where I hang out “…a six foot three bi-sexual firefighting bodyguard…” but I’m sure you get the gist.

Chris is an actor with a high rating TV show and a new blockbuster action movie about to be released. He is in Australia for the premiere. Chris has a reputation as a real ladies man and has never been attracted to another man. That all changes when he meets Liev, the bodyguard assigned to watch over him for the week in Sydney.

Liev was a gorgeous character – sexy, protective, caring. He wanted to do the right thing by Chris and I just wanted him to get his so well deserved happy ending.

What I most liked about this story was Chris’ reaction to his attraction to Liev. He is wildly turned on but it isn’t purely a physical attraction. “It had little to do with Liev’s sexy Australian accent and everything to do with the way Chris felt…complete when the man was near him. Not just safe, complete. Which only confused Chris more. He hadn’t realised he wasn’t whole until then.”
But there is no doubting their chemistry and the sex is hot – it is raw, hard and passionate – and there is no holding Chris back, even if he’s never had this type of sex before.

The direction the story took was pleasantly surprising, NOT falling into the standard plot line of the celebrity running from being found out to be gay. Of course things don’t go smoothly. Firstly there are all the problems associated with the men acknowledging they should be together and finally the problems trying to sort out the future.

My only concern with the story was the role Chris’ PA Bethany played in bringing the men together. I really liked her character but never fully understood her true motivation for bringing Chris and Liev together. I’m glad she did but the tactics she used just didn’t seem to fit with the professional assistant she appeared as – she didn’t even call Chris by his first name so her actions were very surprising.

Actor, bodyguard, action, drama, sexual chemistry….4.5 stars!

The Blurb…

Everyone has defining moments in time.

A path chosen, a journey taken, a decision made. Jacob Riley, an actor with possession charges hanging over his head and an attitude that the world owes him a living, is facing such a moment.

It is only with the help of others can he ever hope to find his way. Could Mac’s and its enigmatic boss, Ethan Myers, be the ones to give Jacob his defining moment?

So what did I think?

This was a enjoyable story. Read while on holiday, I wasn’t looking for anything too deep and heavy and this fitted the bill perfectly.

It was a little unexpected at times. From the blurb, I expected a lot more selfish behaviour from Jacob. Yes, the beginning of the book provides his background and a glimpse of his previous attitude, but once he moves into Mac’s place he settles relatively quickly. I think this quick tempering of his behaviour made it easier to understand Ethan’s attraction.

Ethan is very inspiring, a good man doing good things. He has suffered loss in his life but hasn’t let that stop him moving forward. That is why his commencement of a relationship with Jacob is surprising. However, if you overlook the potential inappropriateness of him having a personal relationship with a client, he and Jacob make a great couple.

The turning point for Jacob comes midway through the book. “All I know, Ethan, is that coming in, and meeting you, has been a catalyst. I want to be good, whatever good is. I want to try. I want to say I am sorry to my family. I want to know where I went wrong.”

From this point, the men need to face a number of issues that threaten their relationship, from gang members, violence, Jacob’s father and their own miscommunication.

I found the book a great blend of romance, sex, interesting story and with a little bit of drama thrown in.

Plus I love the cover! 🙂

A Sticky Wicket in Bollywood by T.A. Chase & Devon Rhodes

International Men of Sports series

Come with us around the world as the men who compete in their country’s most popular sports find that, although it’s not always easy to win in the game of love, it’s the only victory worth having.

  • A Sticky Wicket in Bollywood (book #1)
  • Chasing the King of the Mountains (book #2)
  • At First Touch (book #3) – due for release in August 2013

A Sticky Wicket in BollywoodA Sticky Wicket in Bollywood by T.A. Chase & Devon Rhodes

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb:

A handsome Bollywood actor must choose between his career and a rugged cricket player from his past, who he’s fallen in love with…again.

Rajan Malik has the world of Bollywood in the palm of his hand–a beautiful girlfriend, starring roles, adoring fans… He should be happy, but behind the facade lies a man conflicted and exhausted by the pressure placed on him by his ill mother, his agent and society. His life is not his own, and all he wants to do is escape.

Indian Premier League cricketer Ajay Singh can’t believe how bad his university roommate Rajan looks when he spots his picture in the paper. They had parted on bad terms. Still, he’s moved to offer Rajan his support by renewing their friendship.

But friendship was not all they shared back then. Though Ajay is out,Rajan isn’t willing to give up his carefully cultivated Bollywood image to be with him publicly. And with very little privacy, it won’t take long for someone to find out they are more than friends.

Their renewed secret affair is fraught with difficulties as they deal with the death of Rajan’s mother, the secret of Rajan’s till-now absent father, a jealous friend, intrusive social media, and threatening notes from someone who seems to know all about their private lives…

It’s a bit of a sticky wicket they find themselves in. Will it be too late when both men finally realise that they’ll need to compromise, or they stand to lose everything?

So what did I think?

Firstly, big points for the Indian setting and characters, Bollywood and cricket – very refreshing!

This is the story of “The handsome Bollywood actor and the rugged cricket superstar” and is the first of the International Men of Sports series. Because of the series name, I expected the main focus to be on the cricketer and the actions set within the cricket arena. However this was not exactly how the plot played out.

Yes, Ajay is a cricketer but most of the focus seems to be on Raj, the actor. Actually the first line of the blurb seems to place more emphasis on Raj. “A handsome Bollywood actor must choose between his career and a rugged cricket player from his past, who he’s fallen in love with…again.”

Regardless of the amount of cricket or cricket settings in the book, it is still an enjoyable story. Slightly predictable but still entertaining. It was also very good value at only $0.99 from Amazon.

Texas Pride by Kindle Alexander

Hot cowboy + gorgeous movie star = sizzling romance!

Texas PrideTexas Pride by Kindle Alexander

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

The Blurb...

When mega movie star and two time Academy Award winner, Austin Grainger voluntarily gave up his dazzling film career, his adoring fan base thought he’d lost his mind. For Austin, the seclusion of fifteen hundred acres in the middle of Texas sounds like paradise. No more cameras, paparazzi, or overzealous media to hound him every day and night. Little did the sexiest man alive know when one door closes, another usually opens. And Austin’s opened by way of a sexy, hot ranch owner right next door.

Kitt Kelly wasn’t your average rancher. He’s young, well educated and has hidden his sexuality for most of his life. When his long time wet dream materializes as his a new neighbor it threatens everything he holds dear. No way the ranching community would ever accept him if he came out. With every part of his life riding on the edge, can Kitt risk it all for a chance at love or will responsibility to his family heritage cost him his one chance at happiness?

So what did I think?

When I started this book I was expecting a fairly standard story with a plot I am sure I have seen before – famous celebrity moves to the country, hiding his identity from most people and falls in love with a hot local guy. But this book surprised me. Yes, the plot does involve Austin (Academy Award winning movie star) buying a ranch and starting a relationship with his neighbour Kitt (ranch owner/cowboy), but it is unique in many ways.

The characters have real substance. They are both gorgeous – Austin with his movie star good looks and Kitt with his handsome cowboy hotness – but both characters have depth. Austin is looking to escape a superficial life and his actions show him to be a caring man. Kitt is a proud man who is supporting his family and an upstanding member of the community.

The book follows Austin and Kitt as they build their relationship while tackling issues that could tear them apart. Austin is living under the shadow of the press finding out about him, hiding from the world, and Kitt is hiding from his own sexuality, determined to never come out due to the impact it would have on the ranch and his family. There are moments of doubt, moments of jealousy, moments of drama and moments of romance.

The story has its fair share of sex (luckily!) but it focuses equally on the emotional and physical. “From the moment their lips touched, Austin felt the connections in his heart…” There are also some wonderful moments for the romantics with declarations of love.

There is also some humour. My favourites are:

“I love watching you back this massive vehicle into this small space. It reminds me of us having sex.” I don’t think I will ever be able to look at someone parking a car the same way again!

“In what world was it ever okay to have a room full of people sit for hours, stewing in their own greatness? All while they waited to see if they’d won a trophy of a naked man with no dick…”

There were a couple of minor editing problems and the Epilogue was called a Prologue but these were easily overlooked.
