New Release from Brooke Edwards!

Blurb

In the aftermath of a psychopath’s obsession-fuelled murder spree through New York, Detective Daniel Callahan feels like he’s been hit by a wrecking ball. It turns out that watching your best friend and your boss fall in love only to nearly lose it all takes a toll on a guy’s emotional stability.

Peter Saracen has an out-of-control crush on the belligerent detective who seems to want nothing more than to toss him into a cell and throw away the key. When the body of an unidentified gang member is pulled from the East River and an old nemesis breaks out of prison, Peter finds himself on a whole new collision course with Daniel.

The line between personal and professional begins to blur. The dangers of the present take aim at the fragile possibility of Daniel and Peter’s happily-ever-after, while ghosts of the past threaten the deepening bond between Daniel’s boss James Carter and Assistant US Attorney, Derek Moore. With everything against them, there might not be any coming back from this.

Excerpt

Volunteering doesn’t pay any bills, but Peter spent more time at the community center growing up than he thinks he’s ever going to be able to give back. Whenever he can, he likes to help supervise the daycare or after-school programs. The kids span the spectrum from hostile and prickly, all the way to clingy and desperate for any attention and affection they can get. Peter feels for all of them.

The owner of the pizza place around the corner from Tia’s apartment had agreed to let him wash dishes during the dinner rush period as a trial, and as grateful as he is to have been given a chance there, he’s even more grateful that he can keep spending a few hours a day at the community center. Keeping busy is the best way he knows how to keep from dwelling on the way that, when his life had flashed before his eyes as he’d been dragged through that broken window and realized that the only police officer around was unarmed and unconscious, there hadn’t been much to be proud of. The community center kids and Tia would be the only people who missed him. He’s almost embarrassed to admit how long Daniel’s face had lingered in his mind’s eye. Peter’s had crushes before, even a couple of more-or-less serious relationships. Alex had been an educational experience. He doesn’t know what it is he feels for Daniel, just how strongly he feels it. That feels scarier, somehow, than losing something he understands. The possibility of losing this unknown potential… something. He hasn’t seen Daniel since the last time he’d been at the station, for one final debrief with some faceless officers and the stern redheaded lawyer, and even that was just a glimpse across the bullpen. It’s been a solid eight weeks, and Peter still keeps catching himself drifting off into a repetitive loop of “what-if” scenarios.

It’s incredibly frustrating because Peter has no idea what to do about it. As much as there’s a part of him that wants to go storming into the police station, and maybe do something drastic like punch Daniel in the face with his own face and hope their mouths ended up in the same vicinity, he thinks that’s probably a terrible idea. He just doesn’t have any better ones.

“I’m a good person,” Peter says to himself while he watches the kids run around in the gated courtyard. “A good adult.”

Alysha sidles over to him. “Why’re you talking to yourself, Petey?” she asks, sliding her hand into his and looking up at him with warm, concerned eyes.

Peter squeezes her hand, still too conflicted to even be embarrassed. “Sometimes it’s easier to talk to yourself instead of other people,” he says. “Helps you get all the facts straight and figure out what you have to do. Like making lists.”

Her eyes light up. “I like lists.”

An overwhelming wave of love crashes over him and he smiles, using his grip on her hand to swing her up into his arms. “I know you do,” he says, pressing a smacking kiss to her cheek. “Let’s go make some now, how does that sound?”

Gay romance novel recommendations

I feel like I’ve hardly read anything over the last month or two. I’ve had surgery on my neck and it’s amazing how difficult holding a book is when you’re wearing a hard collar neck brace! I also didn’t get to listen to much in the way of audio books, instead spending most of my time sleeping or staring mindlessly at the TV.

Finders Keepers by N.R. Walker

N.R. Walker writes some wonderful books. Finders Keepers was sweet and fun. It’s the perfect book if you’re looking for an easy to read, low angst story. I also have a soft spot because it’s set in Australia. It’s also on Kindle Unlimited if you subscribe. Click here to find out more.

The Sinner and the Saint by RJ Scott

This is the 8th book in the Ellery Mountain series. There’s something nice and comforting about reading series like this – when each book comes out it’s like visiting a familiar town and spending time with old friends. There’s something reassuring about knowing what to expect while spending time with new characters falling in love. Click here for more.

Love in Spades by Charlie Cochet

This book starts a new series, Four Kings Security. This was an action romance with the main characters finding love while fighting the bad guys – a bit of mystery, a touch of action and a lot of love. This is another KU book. Click here for more.

Alpha Heat by Leta Blake

Continuing my commitment to branch out from purely contemporary romance, I read this paranormal romance. This is the second book in the series (Heat of Love) so I recommend reading book 1 first. I like the world building and the fact this is a relationship that is forbidden. Click here.

If you’ve got an recommendations for books for me to check out, comment below. I’m always after new recommendations.

Happy reading,

RELEASE DAY! Lost in the Fire by Draven St James

Lost In The Fire

 by Draven St. James

#5 in the Firehouse Six series

Blurb

Aaron Evans embodies every complication Wren Tucker knows he doesn’t need. The tempting go-go dancer refuses to leave him alone and his attempts to get into Wren’s bunker pants don’t stop at the club, even the walls of the Firehouse aren’t safe. Wren’s control is only so strong, and his desire for Aaron is turning into a clawing need that’s digging through the many reasons keeping Aaron at bay.

Aaron is two cold showers away from hypothermia if the hot fireman of his dreams won’t give in to the lust Aaron sees blazing in Wren’s eyes. The only issue is, Wren is a forever man, and Aaron doesn’t have that in him to give, not with so many secrets locked behind the glitter and gold of his beautiful world.

As Wren begins to cave to Aaron’s delicious demands, he gets a deeper view of the tarnished landscape Aaron exists in. A murky pit of drug addiction that’s slowly dragging Aaron under, and Wren is going to have to fight like hell to save Aaron from it, to even have a chance at a new beginning with the man who has brought him out of the shadows.

Excerpt

“One of these days, Wren Tucker…” Aaron turned to his side, pillowing his head with his bent arm. His eyes slid closed, and he murmured, “I’m going to get to you.”

You already do. Wren crouched beside the bed. The first time Wren had seen him, Aaron had been dancing. The light from the club had touched on every toned dip and groove of Aaron’s body as it swiveled on the raised stage, his tight ass shaking with the beat of the music. All of that had been amazing, but it had been Aaron’s face that had captivated him—the free expression, like he was in another world. His full lips mouthing the lyrics, his head thrown back, and the locks of his black hair waving around his flushed face.

In that moment of abandon, Aaron had met Wren’s gaze, a smile tugging at the corner of his sensual mouth. Aaron had continued the dance, but he hadn’t stopped focusing on Wren.

INTERVIEW: Melting Point by Kate Meader

Melting Point releases today. It is book 0.5 in the Hot in Chicago series.

The first book in the series is Flirting with Fire, and the second book will be Playing with Fire (9/29/15), both are Contemporary Romance. We interviewed Kate and asked what prompted her to write this sexy m/m romance in the middle of her m/f series.

Melting Point

Blurb

Things are heating up at Engine Co. 6 in this original e-novella from Kate Meader’s sizzling Hot in Chicago series! Superhot playboy firefighter Gage Simpson has one particular man on his mind: Brady Smith, a recalcitrant, moody chef who makes Gage melt from the inside out. Features a sexy sneak preview ofPlaying with Fire!

Firefighter Gage Simpson has it all: the job of his dreams, the family of his heart, and no shortage of hot guys lining up to share his bed. “Fun and easy” is his motto—and it’s kept him sunny through a painful upbringing and steered him away from trouble. But when trouble comes knocking in the form of a sexy, scarred, tattooed chef with a harrowing past and zero communication skills, Gage can’t help but be drawn to the flame.

Brady Smith isn’t fun. And easy isn’t in his vocabulary. When cocky Gage swaggers into his restaurant kitchen, the former Marine-turned-five-star-chef is blindsided by the firefighter’s beauty. Then confused that this golden guy with the sparkling blue eyes and the body of a god might be interested in him. As desire flares and temperatures rise, Gage and Brady will have to figure out if the heat between them is just a temporary flash—or the beginning of something real.

INTERVIEW

Thanks for joining us today, Kate. Congratulations on your Hot in Chicago series.  We are happy you’ve stopped by the Two Men blog to talk about Melting Point, the m/m novella, which releases today.

Thanks so much for having me! I love the name of your blog, by the way.

The first and second books in the series, are male/female romance. What prompted you to write this m/m novella (which sounds HOT by the way!)?

Well, my original idea was to write a prequel novella and three full-length books (all m/f), with an m/m subplot romance running through the longer titles. Gage and Brady’s romance would arc over those longer books, so each book would be two romances for the price of one. I had never written m/m before and I was worried about whether I could write it authentically, so getting my feet wet with the secondary romance thread seemed like a good way to do it. Then something happened: Gage Simpson. My out and proud cocky firefighter started stealing every scene and his story took on a life of its own. When I released FLIRTING WITH FIRE, readers responded so positively to Gage and started clamoring for him to have his own book. So the novella was born. But I’d like to stress that even though Gage and Brady’s romance starts in that first full-length Hot in Chicago book, I’ve written the novella in a way to ensure it’s a standalone. You might enjoy it more if you have that background, but it’s not necessary.

Was the writing process different and what challenges did you face writing m/m?

To be honest, the writing process wasn’t all that different. The real challenge was telling a full romance in a shorter format (both as a subplot in FLIRTING and the novella, MELTING POINT). I was sure I didn’t want to write an m/m story that focused on one of the characters being closeted because I felt that it’d been done, and a lot better than I could do it. I wanted to focus on a story where the coming out experience wouldn’t override the romance. That experience is perfectly valid, of course, but it seemed like too easy fodder for this story. Instead we have a very open and optimistic hero in Gage and a former Marine turned gourmet chef who has shall we say, communication issues. It’s so much fun watching the usually confident and chatty Gage become undone by surly, close-mouthed Brady.

Do you plan on adding more m/m stories to the series? Perhaps a full length novel? Sorry to be so focused on m/m but this is what our blog is about and our readers are interested in. 🙂

Beat that m/m horse! No, that’s fine, I completely understand that’s the blog’s focus. The Hot in Chicago series features a family of firefighting foster siblings who work together, so we have two novellas and three full-length books planned. Unless more foster siblings emerge from the soap-opera woodwork (what do you mean, the triplets didn’t die in that fire after all? :)), then I probably won’t be adding any more books to the series. However, I’m thinking on what to write next and I have ideas that will involve an m/m pairing, very likely a full-length novel. (There might be cops, that’s all I’m sayin’)

Oh, I love cops! 🙂 Do you read a lot of m/m books yourself? Can you tell us about your favourite?

I do! I’m a big fan of KA Mitchell and Collision Course is probably my favourite m/m. Joey is such a great hero and the perfect match for cynical Aaron.

The series features firefighters and is set in Chicago. All I know about this topic, I’ve gleaned from watching Chicago Fire (one of my absolute fav shows *wink*) but I have no idea of how realistic this is. How did you go about conducting research for the series?

I’m a big Chicago Fire fan, too (Severide, you do things to me). I actually have a friend who is a fire captain in the Chicago Fire Department, so he answered a ton of questions and let me hang with him and his crew for a day. I didn’t get to go out on any runs, most of which are paramedic calls and not fires these days, but I did speak with the firefighters about their day-to-day and listened in on dispatch calls. I also got to see the hose drying tower (*snort*) and worked in a dirty joke about it in one of the books. I mean, I had to. One of the things I learned is that CFD firefighters are awesome cooks, so I had Gage be the station’s chef. He and Brady share a love of food and cooking, and that’s part of their bond.W

Wow! You lucky girl. I’d love to spend a day like that. Finally, the cover of the book is gorgeous! Was it a hardship to have to look at photos to select the perfect one for the cover of Melting Point? LOL

Such. A. Chore. That cover just sizzles on the screen, doesn’t it? Actually, the art department and my editor did all the pre-screening to choose a photo, so I wasn’t as hands-on as I would have liked (heh). If I’d hated it, they would have been cool about it and gone back to the drawing board, but they hit it out of the park. I love it so hard.

Thanks for joining us today.

Black and Bluhe 600Grayson Black has never forgiven himself for not saving his identical twin brother, Jet, from a savage beating at their father’s hands ten years ago. Jet’s near-death never would have happened if Gray hadn’t been so focused on his boyfriend at the time. He has sworn to take care of his brother ever since. Gray can’t afford a distraction from his self-imposed mission, the type of distraction presented by the gorgeous blond showing up at their gigs.

Kris Larson is a firefighter with the San Francisco Fire Department. Since splitting from his girlfriend, his favorite way to spend nights off is watching the Black Brothers play in the bars of the Bay Area, especially the guitarist. But it’s not until the brothers are left homeless after a fire at their apartment building that Kris has the opportunity to know the real person behind the brooding façade.

Gray fights his attraction to Kris, but with a meddlesome twin who just wants him to be happy, it’s a losing battle. Before Gray and Kris can have a lasting relationship, though, Gray must learn to forgive himself, let go of the past, and lay more than one demon to rest.

EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Held Hostage by Morticia Knight

Held Hostage

by Morticia Knight

Book #4 in the Sin City series

Blurb

SWAT officer Cole can handle just about anything, until he rescues Brett – a man who makes him question all he’s ever believed about love.

As a member of the Las Vegas Police Department’s SWAT team, Cole has seen his fair share of danger, but he’s never taken a chance on love. He’s willing to have some fun when the mood strikes him, but he’s married to the job. Called in on a hostage situation, Cole is prepared for anything and everything… except for the brave and beautiful Brett.

Brett has been burned before, most recently by Officer Parker McLean. He’s hoping to settle down in Vegas, perhaps find someone he can build a life with. The last thing Brett’s looking for is another man in uniform. But when he meets Cole, there’s an attraction that can’t be denied. Still, he hadn’t expected to fall for the chiseled alpha.

What begins as nothing more than two people experiencing a great night together spirals into something far deeper. But will Brett be able to handle the stress that comes with having a lover who constantly puts his life in jeopardy? And can Cole risk his heart on an everyday hero, or will the job he knows so well remain his top priority?

Excerpt

Brett had already grabbed both of them a beer and had brought it straight to the bedroom. Instead of jumping him the minute they’d entered the apartment, Cole had simply followed behind, eyeing him, as Brett had moved through the motions of being a good host and getting comfortable. He wasn’t going to stop and analyze why a man who’d just told him the night before that he didn’t do relationships had shown up unannounced at his job and was once again in his bedroom less than twenty-four hours later.

“Stop.”

Brett let go of the tie that he’d half unknotted already. He’d already hung his suit coat in the closet and had toed off his loafers then pushed them out of the way over by the dresser.

“How important is that tie to you?”

Brett glanced down at the royal blue silk neck accessory that had an elegant silver paisley design woven into the fabric. He liked it. Liked it a lot even. But was it important? Not really. He’d purchased close to a hundred ties since he’d been employed by Jon Martin. He wore one every day and preferred to have on the most recent seasonal styles when he went to work. It had no significance beyond that.

“Not important at all.”

Cole stepped toward him and Brett’s heartbeat accelerated. Cole reached down to finish untying the knot then pulled one end, sliding the thin strip of fabric out from under his collar. Cole wrapped the ends around each of his large hands then snapped them. It went taut. It was strong. Brett couldn’t wait to find out what it would feel like when Cole bound him with it.

CommonExcerpt

HE WAS in love. Totally, wonderfully, head over heels in love. Love with a capital L, hell, love in full uppercase. All it took was one look, one simple glance, and he was a goner. Of course the object of his admiration was classically handsome—tall and athletic, glowing with good health. Bright eyes, wide smile, waves of shining hair tucked behind perfect ears. He was like all Charlie’s dreams come true, with golden skin hugging strong muscles that strained on long limbs. But even if Charlie hadn’t been attracted to the man’s spectacular good looks, there was no way to overlook his actions.

CharliesHeroORIG-final-01 (1)When Charlie first saw him, he was kneeling on the schoolyard ground, tending to a little girl who was lying prone on the soft-fall rubber surface under the play equipment. She was one of Charlie’s second graders. Her right leg, bent at a strange, unnatural angle, gave a big clue as to her injury. Charlie hoped the leg was the worst she was hurt.

An efficient auburn-haired paramedic was treating her injured leg while the gorgeous guy knelt by her head, hands on either side of her blonde curls, keeping her still. He whispered into her ear, the words obviously having a calming effect—the little girl stared intently up at him, the hitch in her breathing the only evidence of any distress. There was a gentleness to his touch, despite the large hands, and caring in his tone as he concentrated on his patient. How could Charlie not fall in love with this glorious combination of caring, masculine beauty?

“Mr. Matthews. Mr. Matthews.” The urgent high-pitched voice and persistent tugging on his hand drew his attention reluctantly away from the scene unfolding in the playground. Shit, he thought, what the hell am I doing just standing here staring when I should be taking care of the other children, who are no doubt worried and scared? Dropping to one knee and looking Jennifer in the eye, Charlie gave her his full attention. “What is it, Jenny?” he asked, knowing she was going to voice her worry about her small friend on the ground.

“Is Alison going to be all right, Mr. Matthews?” she asked in a low and quavering voice. He replied in a way he hoped would calm her fears, by keeping his voice even and low.

“She’ll be fine, Jenny. Her mummy and daddy will meet her at the hospital, and Miss Bryant is going to go stay with her until they get there. Alison is in very good hands. See those paramedics?” He pointed toward the action under the monkey bars, and she looked across at the small group on the ground and nodded gravely. “Well, they’re very good at their jobs. They’re going to take Alison to the hospital so the doctors can put a cast on her leg. I’m sure she’ll be back at school in no time.”

“But she won’t be able to play,” she whispered, obviously still worried for her friend.

“No, she won’t,” he admitted. “At least she won’t be able to run around for a while, but she will be able to draw and play board games. I know you love to draw, so maybe you can play with Alison to make her feel better. I bet you’ll be able to write your name on the cast too.”

At that, Jenny met his gaze and finally smiled. “Really!” she said with excitement. “That’d be totally cool!”

They looked up as the paramedics wheeled past with the gurney. Little Alison was tightly strapped aboard. She was lying still, no doubt in shock, and holding tightly to the hand of Charlie’s hero. He only glanced their way for a second, obviously reluctant to take his attention away from the little girl who needed him, but that was enough. Their gazes connected, his warm brown eyes seeming to look straight into Charlie’s soul. The surge of emotion that flooded through him took him by surprise. The paramedic blinked and the spell was broken. They moved swiftly past Jenny and Charlie, then loaded the gurney into the back of the ambulance.

Charlie stood frozen to the spot, still holding Jenny’s small hand in his, and watched the ambulance leave. Finally he took a deep breath, turned back to the schoolyard, and started to round up any children still in the playground.

“Come on, everyone,” he called. “It’s time to get back to class.”

As the last stragglers made their way into the single-story building that housed the small group of classrooms, he knew he would be spending the afternoon reassuring the children. He decided that making get-well cards for Alison would be the best way of distracting the group of second graders.

Charlie

Charlie’s lips tilted in a tentative smile. At first he was smiling to put Josh at ease, but then he realized he had reason to smile. The anger had vanished. The tightness in his chest had disappeared, replaced by total awareness of Josh standing opposite him. Josh raised a hand and cupped Charlie’s cheek as he looked into his eyes. His skin tingled from the gentle touch, and he leaned into Josh’s palm and closed his eyes.

When he opened them again, Josh was looking back at him with such tenderness and yearning, he couldn’t help but lean in to bring their lips together. It was a soft kiss, a barely there promise of something more. Josh’s arm encircled his waist and drew him close again.

“I love you,” Josh whispered against Charlie’s mouth, his sweet, warm breath delivering those momentous words.

Charlie stumbled as his knees gave way, but Josh held him up with his strong arms. “I love you too,” he murmured.

“I know,” Josh said. “I know you do.”

“Let me show you how much.” Charlie turned and pulled back the covers on the bed.

Josh laughed before his expression turned serious. “How about I show you how much?”

AboutTheAuthor

Author PicNic Starr lives in Australia where she tries to squeeze as much into her busy life as possible. Balancing the demands of a corporate career with raising a family and writing can be challenging but she wouldn’t give it up for the world.

Always a reader, the lure of m/m romance was strong and she devoured hundreds of wonderful m/m romance books before eventually realising she had some stories of her own that needed to be told!

When not writing or reading, she loves to spend time with her family-an understanding husband and two beautiful daughters-and is often found indulging in her love of cooking and planning her dream home in the country.

You can find Nic on Facebook, Twitter and her blog. She’d love it if you stopped by to say hi.

RELEASE DAY! Charlie’s Hero by Nic Starr

Today I have a great excuse to stop by the Two Men blog – my first novel length story releases today!

I am so excited to see Charlie’s Hero finally come to life, and to bring you the story of Charlie and Josh, two characters who hold a special place in my heart. And because it’s my first book being released in paperback, I’ve arranged a blog tour. I do hope you get a chance to follow the tour. There’ll be guest posts, character bios, exclusive excerpts, a couple of interviews and a giveaway of an Amazon Gift Card.

Here’s a bit about the book.

Schoolteacher Charlie Matthews returns to his hometown, looking to regain a sense of community, reconnect with friends, and settle down. It looks like his dreams have come true when paramedic Josh Campbell attends an accident at the school. It’s love at first sight, and a romance begins.

But Josh’s reluctance to come out to the brother who raised him, puts pressure on their fledgling relationship. While Charlie understands Josh’s concerns, he can’t help growing impatient. After all, Charlie came out years ago.

It’s not until Charlie confronts his own parents and realizes he hasn’t come to terms with their rejection that he fully understands what Josh has to lose. But Josh is Charlie’s hero, and Josh will do anything to prove to Charlie that to be part of a family, he doesn’t need his parents.

I do hope you enjoy the story and the tour.

Happy reading,

Nic xx

RJ Jones

Today we unveil a gorgeous cover by RJ Jones. This is the second in the Out of the Blue series and will be released in July/August 2015.

Blurb:

(UNEDITED AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

Grayson Black has never forgiven himself for not being able to save his identical twin brother, Jet from a savage beating. Gray was usually the target of his father’s wrath so he shoulders the blame for Jet’s near death. He has sworn to protect his brother ever since. Gray can’t afford a distraction, the type of distraction provided by a gorgeous blond who has been showing up at their gigs.

Kris Larson is a firefighter with the San Francisco Fire Department. Since the split from his girlfriend he’s spent time watching the Black Brothers play in the bars of San Francisco. It’s not until the brothers are left homeless after a fire at their apartment building that he realizes just how much he’s attracted to the brooding guitarist.

Before Gray and Kris can have a lasting relationship, Gray must learn to forgive himself, let go of the past and lay more than one demon to rest.

All Jake Montgomery wants is to propose to his boyfriend on their ten-year anniversary. He’s already bought the perfect rings, but when Cameron struggles to look at him after a tragic accident, he has doubts about their future. Cam is withdrawing, and Jake doesn’t know why.

With heated arguments and cold shoulders, Cam and Jake’s life starts to fall apart. Just when Cam thinks he can overcome his issues and finally talk to Jake, memories from Jake’s past threaten to push them apart forever.
